Oh, for the love of-- it was just a rough ride, nothing more! Sure, Yossarian's heart might've jumped a little too, but better sense got ahold of him just split seconds later and sobered any impulse to panic right as Aster proceeded to do just that. Surely, logic SHOULD have been kicking into gear around that head of hers when she saw that the others weren't frantic, right?
Such guilty wishful thinking on his part. Naturally, things weren't as he'd hoped and now she was a fetal ball at his boots.
"Oh, Miss Aster..." Hanna at least seemed sympathetic to her plight, frowning lightly and actually seeming to debate rising out of her seat-- only to have the ship give another good decelerating jerk and plant her firmly back in it. "Come now, there's nothing to be afraid of. We're only landing--"
"She's right," Yossarian even agreed with her there, "we're not going to crash-- and you aren't going to die!" That part was especially emphatic, crinkling his brows together and leaning down to more or less grab Aster by the arm. "Would you quell that frantic trembling already?!"
"Mister Yossarian!"
There was a moment's pause as he seemed to realize how harsh that sounded... and then he sighed. "I mean... Letting your fear take hold of you will only make things worse."
Now THERE was the kind of sensitivity that Hanna liked to see (as if she'd actually turned a blind eye on the sneaking exchanges of another duo).
Shae probably would've even joined in the effort to calm poor Aster down had she not been wrapped up in her own concerns-- or rather, been wrapped up in trying to reorient her poor, scrambled brain from its wild intimacies with the wall. Thankfully, though, she'd managed to stabilize herself by grabbing the seat before that second lurch could throw her again a-- ...
Oh... that... was definitely one of those newer (and braver) 'gestures' she had yet to get entirely used to, but at the same time, it wasn't a bad thing, so why complain? Instead, she just muttered a soft thanks under her breath and tried to keep her face as composed as possible, tentatively giving the 'damage' a test for herself with two fingers.
No blood, no gore, just a good wang and probably a bruise in the morning. It happened.
"I-I think we'd all like that..." she muttered feebly, tensing as the ship puttered down all the more. It was going to be a rough landing, that much was sure.
But at least it'd be over in a few minutes and then they could be done with flying for a while... right?

Yeah, uh... the second lurch didn't really help the case of Aster's puffed up tail, as she shrieked again as it lurched and practically hit the floor in her panic. Nooooooooo! ;AAAAAAAAAA; !
It was only when Yossarian grabbed her arm that Aster actually paused in her fussing and....yep, went STRAIGHT into the mode of latching, whimpering and practically curling up in his lap, not even able to purr to make herself feel better. adfdshf. Whiiiiiiiiine. jsadfl.
"Last time the ship lurched I nearly froze to deaaaath.. ;A;"
GOD FORBID SHE MENTION IT WAS HER FAULT FOR NOT EVEN STANDING IN ONE PLACE TO ALLOW YOSSARIAN TO FIND HER, AND INSTEAD VOUCHING TO GO AND FALL IN A FROZEN LAKE.
YEP.
SUPER. But really, her first experience with it had been pretty bad, once it was taken into consideration.
Jade quirked a brow at Aster's panic, as well as her statement to 'justify' it to the group.
"Well, that sounds like it was quite the little adventure! Care to share?"
Kanda frowned at Jade over Shae's shoulder. Yeahno. "It was a long time ago."
Yep. So explanatory, wasn't it? But it was all he was really willing to say, just frowning and then settling in as the ship lurched again as it started to make the last leg of it's landing. Even if the ship DID fall at this point, it'd be a short enough fall that not even Aster or Shae would break anything.
Alas, panicky-females were strange.
"So we'll be passing through Zanadu then?"

That shriek had certainly earned itself a grimace, and Yossarian was this close to defaulting back on the snappish bossing... but no, Aster had decided to fling and latch first, and he was promptly distracted from any chance of it. Instead, he just sighed (in place of groaning) and... awkwardly put an arm around her shoulders, figuring that, if nothing else, it was better than what she'd been doing previously.
If only marginally.
"You're not going to freeze to death and we won't be crashing," he repeated quietly, in some awkward attempt of comfort or simply drilling it into her skull, before turning a leery eye back on Jade and scowling. "And that venture is none of your business, Sir--"
The while ship began to shake as a rather harsh desert wind kicked up, rattling the vessel to its core. Still, it had managed to kick out its landing gear with a good ominous groan, which meant that touchdown was imminent...
"Indeed we shall!" Hanna, apparently quite content with the subject change (sort of), nodded to Kanda's comment, "or at least, in theory, I think... It's always interesting, the way things pan out. Here's to wishing for smooth sailing!"
As if to punctuate that very remark right then, the ship touched down with all the grace and softness of a flailing sumo wrestler, succeeding not only to pitch Del from Shae's shoulder and down at Jade's feet-- quite a way to fly-- with a SMACKthud, but to toss her very STOMACH up into her throat (or so it felt) and nearly knock Yossarian off balance, too.
The former halfbreed was vaguely unsettled by it, but at the same time, the ship was at least ON GROUND now, and slowly, with a great fuss of jittering and shaking, managing to power down. She was thankful for that much, and surely, her organs would sink back to their rightful places in good time.
"I heavily question our pilot's capabilities," Yossarian hissed flatly, more to himself than anything.
Shae just wanted to be off the damn ship as soon as possible... even if she wasn't looking forward to where they were headed.

That landing was..only slightly reassuring to Asteria, who, upon finally peeling herself off of Yossarian's lap, walked to the closest window to peer out of it, her tail still puffed up to..only twice it's normal size at that point, before sighing and curling her tail around her leg.
Nnnngh.
"i-I don't want to fly anymore...." she whined, looking over to her better half (who obviously had the patience of a god for not having shaken her to get her out of it), before looking to all of the stuff they now needed to get OFF of the ship (like Fabio. God, her nose was up there in caliber with Kanda's, and it was SO bad to her. fjasdfl;hasfldkfsafhd;kasdjfklasdfhdsa;lfjdskfjasdlf).
fajdslk.
"d-Do we need me to do anything?" she asked, frowning lightly and seeming utterly anxious to get her feet back on the ground.
"Calming down would be nice." Kanda replied, sighing as Ako, who had also been flung from his spot, chirrupped and went to.. .... get trapped in his ponytail.
Goodie. Now Fabio would eat HIM too. asjdflk.
"The swordsman and I can work on getting the heavier things" because he knew Jade would share his woes in being all thin armed and all bone "off of the ship."
GO. BE USELESS SILLY BUTTERFUR. "Would you like to go get some fresh air as well, Shae?"

Funnily enough, Yossarian was just about to open his mouth and say just what Kanda had-- but alas, the rival beat him to it and he wasn't about to let himself say it over again, so he swallowed it back down. All that really mattered in the end was that Aster had finally calmed down, pried herself off, and the rest of them could just get on with their lives.
"... Just wait outside," he settled on grumbling, now free to stand himself and brush off as best he could, before adding, "-- but not by yourself."
"Good thinking!" Hanna was happy to agree with him (which he just found annoying, honestly), leaning down to pick up Del while the golem flopped about and brush it off, before tossing it back to Shae like a lofted, spastic ping-pong ball. "Why don't we go together then, Miss Aster? I could use some good stretching!"
"I'm going to unload," Yossarian offered as a reason for why he wouldn't be joining them. After all, if he didn't do it, no one would (or so his mind thought, bitterly).
"I-I should really stay and assist--" Shae started-- but nope, the dark male wasn't having it.
"You'd only be a burden, Harper. Go."
"..." Perhaps that wording was a little strong, but obedience and sheepishness won out in the end. "Oh... yes, Mister Yossarian..."
With the ship finally powered down, Hanna cheerfully shoved open the door (which was more of a large ramp-esque drophatch than anything, good enough for walking a horse down) for their exit... only to be greeted by a strong rushing of sand-filled desert wind.
Oh, yes, this was just a wonderful sign of the weather.
Shae was quick to follow, making no effort to comment further, while Yossarian begrudgingly went to go fuss with Fabio's reins and start making SOME use of the smelly animal by strapping on his saddle (which would hopefully be filled to the brim with luggage).

Aster frowned (which almost looked adorable, given her folded ears) when she was practically shunned away to the 'kitchen' in a sense, but knew perfectly well that she'd be better off to put her feet flat on the ground and wibble there. Which it seemed she'd have company for.
Though not before she'd shot Yossarian a glare for his harsh wording. OooOooh. Someone was going to be sleeping alone for being a jerk!. Or something like that. She certainly seemed to be...displeased, but was more than happy to lead the part outside.
She practically flung herself at the ground once she was outside, and likely would have latched herself to a tree if she'd been able to do so. dfahsd;fjadsf. Whiiiiiine. So happy to be back on the ground. Whiiiiiiinnneee!
"Can we not fly on the way back? Pleaaaaaasssseee?"
PLZHANNA?EVENIFITISN'TUPTOYOU??
Kanda frowned and looked to the girls as they made their exit... before turning to the matter of business that was- his ponytail being chewed on by an oh-so-happy Fabio, before he swatted at the horse to leave him alone and started untying the beast.
"I'll get him off of this ship first before we work on everything else."
SO ALL FUTURE SMELLS WILL BE OUT THERE PLZ.
Jade just chuckled a bit at Aster's bitter look, before Kanda mentioned he was getting the horse OUTTA THERE. "Are you sure you'll be able to pry him off of you once you've gotten him outside?" he joked, causing the tabby to frown at him before storming off with the stallion.
Hmmmm....
Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.
"Well, looks like this is starting off badly, mm?"

While Shae had the patience of a saint, more or less, straggling her way off the ship and listening to Aster's whimpering, she could help but wonder... just how on earth did Mister Yossarian tolerate that as often as she did? The crying, whining and fussing seemed awfully frequent, even in relatively 'peaceful' conditions (which, sadly, the latter female would've probably labeled their current standings... just because they had yet to suffer brutal injury).
Hanna, though, didn't seem bothered by it in the least (though neither did she, outwardly), waving a hand and chuckling amicably.
"You know, Miss Aster, I'm not actually too fond of flying, myself!" Not that one would've known it by looking at the calm little therapist-- if she was even telling the truth. "Or rather, I guess you could say I'm not fond of the altitude... makes me feel a bit sick after too long."
How she said all of that with a smile was anyone's guess-- but Shae had actually noted a bit more paleness than usual in the woman's lips once they were in the harsh desert sun. How very... interesting.
But their time without male interference was to be short lived, it seemed, because Kanda had decided to drag Fabio outside the moment Yossarian fastened that last saddle strap, not even having time enough to hurl a bag uptop the smelly beast before 'he' (the thing hardly deserved a gender) was being led outside.
Which meant that he'd get to heft as many bags as he could onto his own shoulders and follow outside to continue the dirty load work-- but not without shooting Jade quite the appropriately displeased look.
"... You know, I doubt those ancient bones of yours are so frail as to break beneath the weight of a suitcase... Sir," he muttered cynically, but with that, it was off and away.
Stupid, meddlesome know-it-all old man and his not-so-old vigor that he pretended NOT to have!
Yossarian hardly cared that Jade was their employer. He just wanted the guy to stop hassling and start helping so they could get on their godforsaken way-- and hoo, boy, even his skin could feel the hot sun (which was saying something, considering how low it was in the sky) already from the moment they'd stepped out.
It just meant that all the lesser-furred ones would probably be burnt red by nightfall.
"So..." the dark swordsman grumbled, promptly hefting luggage on top of poor Fabio (who thoroughly deserved it), "where exactly are we planning to head now post-landing?"
Would they really be heading for Zanadu?

Well, given how her FIRST flying experiences had turned out, she had a special illogical panic reserved for airships. So yes, she had to whimper and panic the whole way off, despite the fact they'd already landed. But after a few minutes of standing outside and taking deep breathes to calm down, the sounds of distressed Asteria's had quieted down.
Mrrrrrrr.
"I just.... I dunno... it feels unsafe every time I'm in one..just.... ddjsfakl;d..." her tail puffed up a bit at whatever thought it was that went tearing through her head, though she was at least nice enough to not go "fjsdlkfh;asfjaskdfhsadfklj" and start freaking out again. In fact, she actually fumbled through her bag to produce the book (that she was at LEAST getting near the end of, thank god) to sit and read.
THERE.
SHE'D CALM HERSELF DOWN A BIT. Or something. Kind of wished she had gotten another book to fumble with after she finished this one up, though.
Kanda actually snorted a bit at Yossarian's Jade-aimed quip as he argued with Fabio down the ramp to get off of the ship, ultimately grumbling and looking between the girls as he held onto the horse's reigns.
"Would one of you three take him off of my hands so I can go back in?"
Jade just shrugged, both palms face-up as though he was trying to play it up a little bit. WOE WAS HE, ACCUSED OF SUCH SILLY THINGS.
Or whatever it was he was going for with that silly dramatic effect.
"Well I can carry a few bags, but I'm hardly sturdy enough to handle things that would be heavier than any of the girls!"
WOE WAS HE AND HIS SCRAWNINESS. AH HA HA.

If Shae had any comments to make on the flight discussion (as was only logical to assume of one who'd been along for every failed airship to date), she kept them to herself. Instead, it was Hanna who gave Aster a sympathetic pat on the back.
"Well, fear is a natural and expected response over situations that have proved unpleasant in the past," she offered helpfully, or perhaps not so much. "We all have our moments-- ah! Mister Yossarian, Mister Kanda, do you need any help with those b--"
"No," the swordsman had shot her down the moment he asked, hefting the last one purposely onto Fabio's back and shooting her a leer before, with a weary sort of resignation, he retreated for the ship's interior once more to grab another armful. Really, he wasn't used to carrying half this much luggage along with them... but he supposed that being prepared wouldn't be entirely bad, either...
They just had to make sure they could TOTE it all across the desert...
"I-I'll take him." Thankfully at least Shae knew how to make herself actively useful, quick to step up and take the reins (quite literally) so Kanda could finish his business. Sure, Fabio towered over her, but that didn't mean she was afraid of handling him! In her mind, she was probably the safest of everyone present, what with her hair having the shortest length!...
And thus, in awkward swiftness, unloading finished. Yossarian, despite his grumbling over Jade and how useless the man was (particularly with answering questions, crimany, was it really THAT hard?), went about yanking the last luggage to saddle-stack, and even shouldered the remainder on her own back (or underarm) in the form of his own lone traveling bag.
Shae, too, had her particulars in that familiar black pouch over one shoulder, idly contemplating whether it'd be better to A.) throw on an overshirt to save her skin a bit more from the evening sun at the expense of heat stroke or B.) just resign herself to becoming a bright red mess before it was all over.
Either way, they needed to get a move on, and fast. Even the ship wasn't about to wait around on them and, as soon as the pilot had slunk out to confirm that everyone was off, he simply up and left!
"... I believe the infamous plateau should be just a few miles southwest of here," noted Hanna.
"But do we travel toward or away from the wretched cesspool?!" Yossarian snapped heatedly.
It was the million dollar question.
"Well..." And the therapist didn't seem particularly rushed to answer him, either. "That would all depend on whether we preferred to wander the desert aimlessly or seek civilization!"
"... You call that ruffian hodgepodge civiilization?"
"Would you like need a cotton swab for those ears, Mister Yossarian? You seem a bit hard of hearing."
"... Loathesome wretch."
"What was that?"
He paused, and fought off a groan. "Nothing."

It was strange to ASTER at least, how much stuff their little party suddenly had to have on them... food and clothing and bedding and... a lot of stuff that she wasn't used to having just on hand in the case of it being needed. Being prepared for everything; Aster had never actually been it before.
But even Aster was wise enough that once everything was on, she stashed her book away and quickly oriented herself with the location of the things she probably wouldn't want to waste her time looking for; such as the first aid kit and all of that good stuff.
Not that she was HOPING anybody would get hurt, but knowing her own track record, she'd rather be safe than sorry when it came to locating the thing that would keep the group in one piece if it came to that.
Nngh.
"Well if I know the geography correctly, the Sandstorm used to back up the Plateau as it was, so we may be well set with traveling through the town as opposed to around it. Easier to protect ourselves when we know we're surrounded by a mugging waiting to happen than out in the open without being 100% sure..."
... ...."Notthatmyopinioncountsformuch.."
Not that her LOGIC counted for much either. In Kanda's eyes, it would have been easier to protect their pow-wow against a smaller, even if by surprise, group than keeping their belongings together in a town of thieves. Just... HONESTLY.
Though wandering through the districts may have led to a meeting with a certain doctor (which thinking back on it, he had to wonder how that puppy was doing with it's new family. Hopefully clean, well fed, and taken care of). Random sentiment time? Totally.
"Either route is a possibility, the question is which one will allow us to scale the plateau more easily?"
Jade actually 'hmm'ed out loud (as though TRYING to be obnoxious, fjklas wink before he waved a hand with a sort of dismissal. WELL. "I imagine going around the town may leave some of us a little crispier than the others.. plus inside the town, there are safer districts which are only established for the outcasts of our ever so judgemental society.."
So they were going through?

Yossarian still had to give the woman kudos for being more logical than she usually was (especially for the flight having been so recent), but alas... for better or for worse, her opinion really wasn't the one they were all hanging on, so it didn't count much... if only by technicality.
Although it seemed like Kanda and Jade were both more or less in agreement with her anyway.
"So it's just a matter of finding the proper root into this melting pot of catastrophe," he clarified flatly, making no effort to hide his lack of THRILL over the prospect.
"Exactly!" Hanna beamed all-too-cheerfully for one in agreement. "But I think just getting there should be our first priority now, so let's move out and chat along the way while we still have some light, shall we?"
"... And do we expect that beast to follow after us up some craggy semi-vertical path?" he hissed back.
To his surprise, though, it was Shae who spoke up to respond.
"There are certain paths wide enough for a lone draft animal, Mister Yossarian..."
"... Right." There were moments when he forgot that she'd already been there before (a venture he'd only been informed of in retrospect during some idle chess match, yet never been informed of in more detail than 'we had a visit' or so), and it took a moment before that memory bubbled to the surface again. Why had she even been there in the first place?
"Well, that's good to hear!" Not that his skepticism had any effect on a certain therapist's mood, quite happily trotting off to 'lead' the wayward pack and prompt their walking, took. After all, they'd have to really haul tail if they wanted to make it before the night got too frigid. "You'll have to tell us about your adventures here some day, Miss Shae~"
"..." said Shae, perhaps discretely choking down some sentiment, but not letting it show in more than the slightest grimace.
Who needed to walk and talk at the same time, anyway?

She was only being 'logical' because reading had forced her to calm down, if she wanted to make sense of anything she'd been looking at. So it was (both indirectly and directly....and ironically...orwhatever) Yossarian's fault she'd calmed herself down to make such a level headed statement.
Too bad that reading ON the ship would have made her physically ill. Alas, what else could be done for that? Besides having her wibble and curl up in Yossarian's lap (to not panic. Really, it was no surprise now how much 'coping' he'd caused in quite a few of her strange fears). She did, however, seem quite aware that being out in the middle of DESERT meant she'd be spending the night whimpering about being crispy.
Alas.
"i-Is there any possibility of obtaining a couple of hats for us...less protected?"
... Y'KNOW, FROM THE SUN??
Kanda actually had to ponder that thought fo-...Hmm.
"I'd imagine with how much of the Zanadian populace are half or no breeds, you should be able to acquire some decent wide-brimmed hats.."He shot a glance to Shae and nodded a bit. "Without overheating any of the needy parties."
YES, ONE FOR ALL OF THE GIRLS....+ JADE.
..Did Jade count as a girl?
Jade seemed positively DELIGHTED at the suggestion. Oh yes, hats all around! (They more than had the allowance for it.. plus it was one of those needs he had 'conveniently' forgotten about. Hmmm, motive?). MWA HA HA HA!
Ahem.
"Well, it certainly would be a good investment to keep all us pale-folk from burning up."

Shae would have never posed a complaint about the sun on her own... but she wasn't stupid enough to reject the idea of some added coverage, either, and just resigned herself to nod quietly at the commentary. As not only the barest, but the palest of the entire group (... though Jade could've given her a run for her money, actually), she knew she'd be the first to succumb to one hell of a sunburn.
... Er, sooner or later, anyway. Who knew how fierce the exposure would be before they had some nice (and probably unfortunately cold) night cover to travel under.
"It's a plan, then!" Hanna, never one to miss adding in her two cents, added at the tail end of things, all but skipping near the head of the little group. "I could use a good hat, myself... My poor neck's going to scorch soon, at the rate we're going."
And probably her face, and all the other exposed non-furry parts of her.
"You two are pretty lucky, you know," she had added on conversationally, glancing behind her first at Kanda, and then Yossarian-- who glowered and tried to ward her away with a frown. "Cooler in the summer, warmer in the winter... Fur's definitely something the Koshka got right, I'd say. It's just a shame I don't have more of it."
Shae still could have easily topped her there in the hairless department, but again, kept her mouth shut instead.
It was a traveling party of very limited conversation and even less cheer-- in fact, the devious duo (and perhaps even Fabio) seemed to be the only ones vaguely cheerful as the sun sunk lower, and canteen were cracked out to quench parched mouths, and feet began to complain about the long, unfortunate miles being put behind them.
It was slowly (VERY slowly) getting darker, and perhaps a tad cooler... and there was definitely something like a break on the horizon, too.
A very tall, jutting break.
... Was that really Zanadu?

What SHOULD have come as the surprise was the fact that Aster hadn't whined and whimpered the entire walk as soon as her feet had started hurting. Nooope, she was perfectly happy to help out with the pony and... somehow NOT get her ponytail chewed on by Fabio.
HMMM, HOW VERY CURIOUS. Well, that and she was completely avoiding wibbling and clinging to Yossarian. Protest of his 'mean' snap at Shae from earlier? Perhaps so. She certainly wasn't all 'prrprrprrprrprr' and happy to be back on her feet. She was just...fjsalkf. Turning crispy, at the very least, at one point even untying her ponytail to keep the back of her neck at the VERY LEAST the most char-free.
Not to say that she wasn't black-and-yellow-and-red all over by the time the sun had gone down...
Or rather, she was showing some obvious signs of sunburning. Boooo sunburn! ;A; WHERE WAS MOM AND DAD TO SUPPLY THE SUNSCREEN WHEN SHE NEEDED THEM?
WHEEERRREEE?
Although... "Are we camping inside the town or outside and then passing through tomorrow?"
Kanda frowned, having been perfectly...heated by the sun (and having even unbuttoned his jacket. GASP!), swatting Fabio away from his hair every now and then as the horse contentedly chewed on it.
NOM NOMNOM.
Hnnghd;fakdljds. Damn animal. "I'm surprised anybody has any sense of direction out here..." Kanda grumbled with a frown, looking to Shae and then sighing. "I do have to wonder the faulty logic of sending someone without fur to investigate a desert area."
Jade just chuckled amusedly at the complaints and inquiries that were being filed. "Oh, there's no harm in doing one or the other. The real question is if you want a wide open space or crammed in with all the tents~" he said, looking to Hanna and waving a hand dismissively. "Both sound rather exciting, no?"

It wasn't just the ponytail; it was the male ponytail that Fabio loved... or so Hanna surmised in her idle ponderings along the way, that was. But surely, she went on to think, Mister Yossarian must have appreciated his horsey "friend's" attention-- because it really was the only attention he GOT during their journey.
But whatever Aster's reasons, the dark male didn't seem in any hurry to appease her, either, and only really zoned back into things when their destination finally came into view.
"Clearly your definition of exciting must be skewed from my own," he growled in Jade's direction, but didn't even bother glancing back at the irksome man. Just because he was paying them didn't mean he got any special respect for it. "... But I vote on steering clear of that deplorable cesspool during the night--"
"And make ourselves easy targets for looting; that'll be a thrill!" chirped Hanna with complete honesty, much to his woe.
"... You believe it would be wiser to immerse ourselves in that?"
"Oh, no, not at all! I was simply making a point, Mister Yossarian."
"..." He rather hated when she had points.
"You just need to keep in mind that we'll be relatively obvious targets to them as-is," she added. "A group of obviously foreign travelers, relatively segregated, perhaps even lost..."
"W-well..." It was Shae's turn to speak at that point, still rather silent in comparison to the rest of the group, even given Kanda's prompting. "If nothing else, we can find somewhere appropriate to camp and take turns keeping vigil?"
"As if that wasn't a given already," sighed Yossarian (and perhaps his words were even a little more caustic than he'd meant), "but let's just be on with this misery before it's pitch dark." And freezing cold. The temperature was actually starting to feel almost pleasant right then... but in a half hour, the hot-warm would probably be ice cold, and they'd all be even more miserable.
