It took him a while to unravel the last sentence: Lazy a** equals... hard worker? Oooooh. Sarcasm. Got it!
Toby opened his mouth for a second, all ready to rebuke the white haired comment. He had tried dying it once, really, he just had no clue that the black sharpie would have faded to a soft and rather glorious purple one shower later. And by glorious he meant somewhere in the teenage girls shirts section in the mall. One split-second conclusion about his manliness later, he closed it, deciding simply to keep it 'cool'. "Wait, how do you know I don't study hard?" He began, frowning just slightly. Was his reputation really that well known? "For all you know, I could be amazing at math with those... triangle... whatever things we're studying right now." Yeah, that was sure to make him sound smarter.
Suddenly, his eyes lit up with a rather sudden revelation. "Hey!" Well, not that part. "You got anything you're working on at home right now? I remember you were talking about fixing up your bike and stuff a while back." In fact, he didn't actually know what her bike looked like.

"Don't be so serious, Toby!" Ellie grinned. "And I think y'just proved how 'amazin' y'are with math!" She laughed before catching the boy's request.
The girl seemed to have a strange sense of pride about her work. So she denied him the chance to see her vehicles. "The Spectrum ain't at 100%, and I don't show off the Spectrum without it bein' at 100%. The Vortex ain't gonna be at 100% for a long a** time, so y'don't get t'see that yet either!"
There was a pause, then she smiled rather wide. It was almost a mischievous grin. One that looked like the gears in her mind were turning, already plotting something for the future.
"Next time y'come over, I'll give ya a ride on the Spectrum though. Only thing is y'gotta come over at night. Still kinda illegal fer me t'be ridin' it around durin' the day." Technically, it was also illegal to be riding around at night, but she didn't have to say that. In her mind, this was an offer he couldn't refuse.
"So, what'cha say, Toby? We got a deal?" As if completing some sort of business transaction, she extended her hand towards him for a handshake, as if to seal the deal.

If this were one of those Japanese animation TV shows, his eyes might have sparkled in sheer admiration for Ellie's dedication. Wow, that girl was seriously hardcore. He felt a little guilty himself for not having some sort of drive.
And his eyes, if possible, widened even further at the mention of not one but two bikes. They might have possibly fallen off his eye sockets at the offer of riding ON the Spectrum (though thankfully, unbeknownst to Toby, his optic nerves kept them in place). His face did an amazing job, however, of lighting up like a Christmas tree, or like a kid who had just been offered free tickets to see Disney on Ice. After what seemed like ages with his brain traveling at ten-thousand-miles-per-second with gibberish delight, he all but grabbed Ellie's hand with both of his, forgetting the 'shaking it' part entirely.
"Deal and done!" It was surprising he had managed those words entirely, as he fantasized what this 'Spectrum' could have looked like in its finished states. All thoughts about underage driving and the sort didn't phase him a bit - though technically he was sixteen now, not that he'd ever get a lisence himself. "I... I'll even help you with the bike as much as you need, if you ever need a spare hand or something!"
For Ellie's sake, one would hope she didn't.

If it weren't for Ellie's hand insisting on the shaking motion, their hands would have been like a pile of limp noodles. Limp noodles were lame, and Ellie did not approve of them. Especially when the limp noodles were hands, not noodles.
"Thanks fer th' offer, Toby, but nobody touches my bike but me. Not even Hank or Phil." Anybody who knew the tomboy well enough knew that she trusted Hank and Phil more than anybody else when it came to mechanical stuff. Hank, despite being such an awkward man, was her mentor in a sense. She did not want to be just like him when she grew up, but she wanted a respectable garage business of her own, and that's what he had.
"If I let someone else work on my bike, it would no longer be my bike," she added to clarify before withdrawing her hand. You didn't let your handshake linger too long, otherwise it got weird. Especially in her case, because she tended to be the opposite gender from most people she shook with. For a moment, her eyes rolled up towards the ceiling, as if she was thinking something over. When her eyes fell back to normal levels again, they fixed themselves on the pale-haired boy's face.
"Well, ya saw what ya came for. Did'ja wanna hang out some more, or do ya have things t'work on? If y'want, you can play some video games while I work on my homework." Yes, Ellie actually did her homework. This was a shocker to most people.

With the thought that he possibly was never going to wash that hand again as it might wash away the promise, Toby simply nodded as if he was listening to the greatest speech on earth. Hell, Ellie could have, at this point, be talking about The Sleeping Habits of Forest Bears and Toby would still be nodding away: he was going to have a chance to look at a real bike eventually, without those extra err.. complications (note: Negaverse bike incident, shelved permanently as 'It didn't Happen')
He blinked again as Ellie's other works sunk in. Oh right, it was getting late. "Oh man, homework," he groaned, very like himself, "What are the chances that mine will magically write itself as well?" Well, I dont wanna bother you while you're working, and I guess I should do my work too." With an apologetic smile, he tried with the best of his abilities to avoid the paraphernalia on the ground while edging towards the door. "Thanks so much for inviting me over though, I had a blast!"
And he really, really did. Heck, if Ellie had said why not stay over forever, Toby would have happily obliged, forever lost in the nest of well, stuff everywhere, blissfully not having to worry about anything else. And yet, obligations. Bah, life.
