Liliah was proud of herself, in that she could now easily keep up with the brisk pace her mentor set. Very unlike the rather clumsy and, quite frankly out of shape, youngling she'd been when she was first taken under Embri's very capable wings. She tended to blush when considering just how naive and sheltered she'd been, and some of her less than brilliant mistakes, even now. Now that she had grown some and become a little bit wiser and better because of them.

Though that incident with the river and the one herb would likely haunt her for the rest of her life. Not that it had been particularly dangerous or anything. Just... humiliating to the rather proud mare she had been.

The memory was brought to the fore as they quickly passed the stream in question and continued on towards the forests border.Liliah noted with some interest that they were definately travelling farther than she'd been before. She took in the surroundings with great interest, barely noticing the strain until she realised she was beginning to fall farther and father behind.

Once she caught up to her mentor, the dusky mare's sides were heaving with exertion and effort, far from being used to these conditions. Ears swiveled to Embri to show the mare she was listening, though Liliah wasn't able to answer right away. "I'll be fine, just give me a moment please." She noticed the other mare breathing harder as well, and she felt a pang of unease. " Are you Okay?"

Following the wing with her eyes, Liliah took in the sight, not only of the plant they were there to collect, but the beauty of the valley as well. "How lovely," she whispered almost reverently. Finding that she was breathing easier now she turned towards the other mare with a grin. " Think I'm ready to continue on, if you're ready." Then a thought occured to her. "This is safe, right? There're no poisons or predators, or anything else right?"

"I'll be fine, thin air is no stranger to one who paces the sky; simply feeling my years. I don't have the endurance of a filly anymore." the alicorn chuckled, nostrils flaring and contracting as she sucked air down into her lungs gratefully. Even I've forgotten exactly how many turns of seasons have gone by, but I'll be a Kalona's breakfast before I let anyone put me out to pasture.

"Don't stop when you're lathered," she warned, pacing along a dry streamlet, pebbled with round gravel. Storm runoff and winter melt made these slopes treacherous during frost-break, but they were dry as dust for now. "the worst thing you can do after a long run is stand still, especially up here where there's a constant breeze." It was worth reminding; sometimes the greatest dangers were not from the land, but inattention or folly.

Embri nodded her approval at Liliah's thoughts of danger. Not so long ago it would have been the last thing on her mind. "Mostly things you've seen before. Like the lowlands, wolves are sometimes found this high. Snakes are rare, too cold for them. More likely to see goats than anything else." The mare pricked her ears, scanning the slopes. "We'll stay away from any overhangs or cover, this is mountain cat territory. They're solitary hunters, and they prefer the ambush to chase. If you see one, don't stop to fight, run."

The smudge of yellow was resolving itself into individual plants as the two equines drew closer. Thin, forked stalks supported plateaus of bright golden flowers above downy lobed leaves. The strong stalks went mostly undisturbed by the wind, while the soft foliage hugged the ground.

Liliah nodded, feeling relieved that her concern was unneeded. She was definately feeling the effects of the run and the thinner air, and knowing Embri was older than her, she must be feeling it even more. "Surely you aren't that old, miss Embri."

The young mare followed the alicorns hoofstep, slowly stretching her muscles and pacing to prevent from injuring herself and to acclimatise to the new environment. Though she paced, she was careful to lift her hooves high and place them deliberately, not wanting to kick up clouds of dust, training from her earlier life coming to the fore.

Liliah was grateful to hear that the dangers here were so miniscule. She wasn't overly fond of the idea of being hurt or of needing to defend herself. Most of the predators mentioned were cowardly, prefering to attack the lone, the wounded or the weak. As neither she nor Embri were any of those things, it stood to reason that they would be able to complete the errand with minimal hassle or fuss.

Reaching the patch of the plants they were there to harvest, Liliah shrugged the sack off so it wouldn't hinder her efforts.

"So are we collecting the stalks, leaves or flowers?"
