Hello everyone and welcome once again to the thread that just wouldn't die. i'm listening to the first album recorded by Love Spirals Downwards - Idylls (remastered) on my ipod and right now it's all about celebrating Autumn. It's the good kind of depression in a way. If that makes any sort of sense. This time around i'm posting the lyrics to a classic by a band that i'm sure many of the goth teens on this website hold in a high regard. i speak of course of Rasputina. The song lyrics/spoken word poem that i am posting can be found on the classic album "How I Quit The Forest" and the children's book graphic design on the limited edition story book version of the CD was so very ahead of it's time.

i'm trying to remember who played with Rasputina at the Shelter when i saw them last. It was so good and i was dressed like such a fashion victim. These are the memories that make me smile inside. It must have been 9 years ago at least but the memories come rushing back like it happened last week. i remember wearing day glow orange vinyl nail polish and wearing my blonde hair medium short with flowing bangs that had a orange plastic something coating on them at the tips so that they radiated orange to match my nails and this button up glowing orange highlighted garbage person's uniform shirt that had been altered by a tag artist to have a tag signature on one breast and a Detroit sky line tag on the other.

i know no one cares to know this but i just remembered. Walking with Damien around downtown Detroit and i went to cross a busy street with him at a red light. It was Damien, Metal Rob, and I. When i heard these pounding loud booty tunes coming out of a jeep that was 6 deep with sexy dressed black girls in daisy dukes, half shirts, and long hair up tight and high in the back. Anyway Damien and Rob both had radio shows but they were like metal, goth, industrial, punk rock, tough guy fair in a way. i was an electronic music DJ at the college station i worked at with Rob and always generally labeled "the raver".

Well i heard these tunes and i'm kinda dressed in a very techno friendly "clasher-f**" (an eletro-clash kid from the early to mid 2000s who takes on a metro-sexual cue to express a more feminine persona). And i feel this jit (jit is a style of dancing to booty/ ghetto tech dance music.... very fast and jerky like going into a seizure) travel through me to the pounding 4X4 pulse. Before i know it i'm breaking it down like one of the Jackson 5 in the middle of a busy downtown Detroit crosswalk right in the middle of Greektown. When this happened one of the black girls in the jeep came out and got kung-fu with the put me back in my white boy place dance moves. So me and this anonymous black girl are throwing down to the ghetto tech in the middle of dense downtown traffic at a red light. My friends were kinda back ground people so they kinda shyed away. i'm pretty sure that whole car load of going deaf to the tunes ladies thought i was a flamboyant table dancing "family" member. i remember her moves were so damn hard core. At one point she did a spinning Rockets kick over my head, clearing it by half a foot. i'm 6 foot tall so i found that amazing. It's one of those little 2 minute memories that was unlocked by thinking about posting a piece of my past. How ironic that a page of story would come out of a short poem post. Anyway, this is Rasputina's amazing...

Sign Of The Zodiac
_____________________

Do you believe in the signs of the zodiac?

haven't you found that the systems for planning always fail

can you avoid what gave daddy his heart attack

have you tried everything, anything, all to no avail?

I know what you need

this will really work

in ancient times if you were sick they'd make you bleed

oh honey i know it hurts

Look all around you and notice you're not alone

we want to give you the courage to go a different way

think of the love and attention we all have shown

what did we do when we heard, well, we all came right away

I know what you need

this will really work

in ancient times if you were sick they'd make you bleed

oh honey i know it hurts

Do you believe in the signs of the Zodiac?

(The sad thing about songs is that they don't have the same impact without the full orchestration. The cello playing and the strange sample noises make this so very timeless. Take a minute and take in the youtube for the full effect. This performed live is about as serious "too personal" as a gig has ever been to me. i would say the air was in a caliber i have felt at say godspeedyoublackemperor or Tori Amos.)

I know this is sort of a simple poem, but I really do like Shel Silverstein's work.

Forgotten Language

Once I spoke the language of the flowers,
Once I understood each word the caterpillar said,
Once I smiled in secret at the gossip of the starlings,
And shared a conversation with the housefly
in my bed.
Once I heard and answered all the questions
of the crickets,
And joined the crying of each falling dying
flake of snow,
Once I spoke the language of the flowers. . . .
How did it go?
How did it go?

How did it go indeed! His work is so timeless! Another well cherished addition from Bloody. Always great to hear everyone else out there getting in on this ever growing body of.... the human condition's ability to make beauty and perceive the many truths as they spiral out of us like sparks, volts, or custom designed snow flakes.... sometimes all three at the same moment of enlightenment.

i wasn't going to add this next piece originally but i just looked it over. Because of the many styles that have yet to fill this bad boy i'm proud to add it to the ranks of the greats. This is a piece of Dax Riggs spoken word poetry that is featured on his Psychedelic Death Metal group "Acid Bath" ('s) second release "Paegan Terrorism Tactics" and it's full of thought provoking imagery and controversial lines that spark thought and make you want to figure out just what this poem is saying. Take your time with this one and fell it through. This is the timeless....

The Beautiful Downgrade

Fingered slowly like the first time you came

The agents of oblivion descend upon the sane

Caked with mud and mother's blood

Playing death games in the rain

And we wonder how it feels to be free

I thought I heard them whisper mutiny

Living room rape scenes

We cut their throats while they slept

Dreaming and digesting shards of turtle shell

The television's blaring

And the ghost of Hitler speaks

Crowned with barbed-wire

I smear my warm semen on the walls of my oppression

I accuse God for the murder of eternity

My everything that is nothing

Christian propaganda and dog sperm

Degeneration...

The beautiful downgrade

Do you remember the first sunrise?

Sharpened bone clenched tight in your fist

Screaming into the blue

An urge to kill the sky

I can smell the forest like p***y in heat

Barefoot I run through the chaos

The assassins of freedom tend the burning of truth

As we walk these prison walls

It's maddening, always touching something

There is much studying to do as always. Well here's to the thread that grows one post at a time. Thickening with strong content like the bark of a Giant Sequoia. Or maybe the foundation of China's "Great Wall" (?) Whose to say really.

These next two pieces are being posted to keep peace and wonder alive in this thread. I'm about to do a multi-post study of David Lerner but it's some seriously psychotic and angry historic period defining turf to till through and search for answers in.

So i have a Bukowski and a timeless fall theme song by Slowdive. No matter where my flying off the rails train goes in this guild or any other. Let it never be said that i didn't want to laugh and enjoy the weather. The Falls and Springs of our souls are emotive and many splendored.

i want this post to inspire each and every one of you. If you like indy films with a new way of telling a story. To go out and watch "Synadoche, New York":

"A theater director struggles with his work, and the women in his life, as he attempts to create a life-size replica of New York inside a warehouse as part of his new play."

Seriously, i'm feeling like "Caden Cotard" right about now and it's important to keep working away at every productive effort. Through the dry seasons and the rainy ones. Now here are your gems to be moved and influenced by:

-Charles Bukowski

one learns
_____________

one learns to endure because not to endure

turns the world over to them

and they are less than

zero.

to endure means to simply gut-it-out

and the worse the odds

the more enjoyable the

victory.

they say you must fight for your freedom.

I know that.

only I didn't fight the Japanese, the Italians, the Germans

or the Russians for my freedom.

I fought Americans: the parents, the school yards,

the bosses, the ladies of the street, the friends, the

system itself.

there's no end, of course, to the fight.

new difficulties arrive like a train on time.

it may no longer be the hangover morning or the

factory assembly line

but treachery, deceit, and false hope take their

place.

I believe we are tested even as we

sleep, and often it all gets so deadly

we can only laugh it away.

to endure takes some luck, some knowledge and a

reasonable sense of

humor because the cold have gotten colder,

the strong stronger,

the once-bold less-bold and

all that's left for us is

to consider the way

the elephant stands silent in the forest waiting to die,

the way men fail again and again and again,

the way the priest forgets his prayers,

the way love can turn to folly,

or the way the cold rain soaks Mozart's

grave. it's in spite of these and

so many other things that

one learns finally how to

endure.

Dagger

The sunshine girl is sleeping

She falls and dreams alone

And me I am her dagger

To numb to feel her pain

The world is full of noise yeah

I hear it all the time

And me I am your dagger

You know I am your world

I thought I heard you whisper

It happens all the time

I thought I heard you whisper

It happens all the time

She whispers while I'm sleeping

I love you when you smile

I didn't really lose you

I just lost it for a while

The world is full of noise yeah

I hear it all the time

You know I am your dagger

You know I am your wound

I thought I heard you whisper

It happens all the time

I thought I heard you whisper

It happens all the time
