Amber opened her eyes slowly, and was immediately taken aback. The bright colors of the ballroom made her wince, and she held a gloved hand in front of her eyes.
Wait, gloved?
Amber blinked, looking at the fingerless, black gloves that reached up to her arms. Then she looked down at what she was wearing and frowned. What...what was going on here? Wasn't she just in her bed, trying not to listen to her father yelling on the phone?
Amber's confused thoughts slowly faded as she looked out onto the dancefloor. Everyone swayed to the beat of the music, and she couldn't help but smile. She giggled, which was extremely unlike her, and hurried into the fray.
"No! I won't-" Kit paused, opening his eyes. An elegant room sat before him, one he had never seen before. What had just happened? Wasn't he arguing with his parents about...something? Even that thought had faded away.
He looked down at the tux that fit his body tightly, but wasn't at all uncomfortable in it. He wore outfits such as these all the time. "Fingering the strange mask on his face, he walked down the stairs, scanning the room for anyone he knew.

"Well sure. We just have to die, and then we'll all wake up from this weird-a** dream," Ren said, grinning. "But what's the fun in that? It'd be much more fun to stay a while and dance to the beat until we turn to dust." He held a hand out to Gwen, formally. "May I have a dance, milady?"

Mary grimaced, "I guess no one else realizes the problems here. Or the fact that none of us should be here. Am I the only level-headed person here?"

Ezekial payed no mind to the man and the punch. He heard a few people talking about how they arrived here and wanted to join in on the conversation. "Hiiiii! How are you people doing?" Ezekial asked.

I smiled, and let my gloved hand take Ren's. "Of course," I replied. "Shall you lead?"
I smiled nervously at Lady Mary. "Lady Mary," I addressed her formally, surprised at my courage--I was a meek person, "my Mistress Guinevere is not known for being...level-headed."

"Well of course, my dear, what else is a man good for?" Ren joked, leading her into the crowd, and dancing as he'd been taught in the lessons his father had insisted on----who knew he'd actually use the knowledge----a formal ballroom style dance befitting the music.

I smiled. "Good. I've never learned to lead," I admitted, "it just seemed useless. I suppose I should've learned to ride horses astride instead of sidesaddle, as well?" I asked, almost rhetorically. "And I suppose I should convert to Christianity--I might be shunned from the court if I don't pretend to like everyone else at court is--but I doubt I will. I'll always be a pagan."

Coral Andrews Mary looked at Ezekiel, ignoring whatever he had said. "Do you know why we are here?" "No clue. I was about to get the death penalty for killing twelve people with their dogs and pouring their blood down onto the public from the top of the empire state building like delicious, red rain and the next thing I know POOF! I'm here with a gas mask over my face, wearing the tuxedo my dad was buried in."

Ren grinned. "Don't worry so much about fitting in," he said. "Do as you please, you've only got one life, and it'll be over before you know it." He wasn't religious whatsoever, as rules didn't go over well with him. "Most would find you more charming as you are in this day and age, I would think." Ren grinned and spun her, with the ease of years of practice. She was much, much lighter than his dance partner had been.

I delighted in the rush of the spin. I loved dancing. "I've always felt the need to fit in, but I'd like to just be my own person," I admitted. "You strike me as the person who doesn't care what people see them as. Am I correct, Ren?"

"Do you have a dog?" Ezekial asked Mary, tilting his head curiously. His eyes were wide and a psychotic grin laid hidden by his mask.

"They've only drilled the thoughts into your head, forcing you to feel that need." Ren grinned. "Indeed, you are correct." He made a mental calculation and came to the conclusion that she wasn't from the same century as him. Most people didn't speak of court in the way she did. "Might I ask, from what part of Britain are you from?" He had been there once before, for a brief time in his childhood.
