Here she hesitated for a long time with her answer, waging a mini war inside of her on just... how to say this, or if she even should. He was new to Kodo, she didn't want to scare him away, she didn't want to tell him such negative things like this after just meeting him.
But at the same time, didn't he have a right to be warned about the regions dangers? His Flareon was pretty, what if someone wanted to take him away.... just like-
Rosie was going to be careful on what she was going to say next, keep the conversation as light as she could, be proper and polite in front of new company, she she was going to be happy! and positive like she always was.
At least thats what she was going to do.
Thinking of Mieu being taken away though, had lead to a chain of thoughts that eventually replayed the sight of her Togepi slipping out of her grip, and away from her, into that horrible black ball.
Her step faltered, and eventually she stopped walking all together, head ducked down, while one hand gripped the fabric of her dress tightly. "Because if you can't fight, they can just take them away from you." Her voice was broken, and etched with utter devastation, despite how hard she fought to keep control of herself.

All right, so he was worried. There it was, with no more dancing around it or trying to excuse it. She seemed like a nice enough girl, going well out of her way to lend a hand to someone who didn't even act like he wanted it, and it was just stupid that she should be so troubled. So when her pace slowed, so did Luke's, and he halted slightly ahead of her, turning to keep his eyes on her expression.
The words she spoke raised two questions right near immediately. "'They'?" he repeated, questioning the identity of this... whoever it was. "And what do you mean, take them away?" People didn't really do that, right? Stealing pokemon was the stuff of cartoons, or the pastime of idiots who'd get caught before they managed to get very far anyway.
He spared another thought for Mieu, the Flareon seeming to detect his attention and turning his blue eyes to the human inquisitively. He figured Mieu was probably safe, being an eyesore and an annoying pain in the a** and a total weakling... but the thought of being left completely alone in that vast city gave him a mental shudder.

She didn't want to be doing this, she didn't want to be acting this way, not around him. He was here to get away, she didn't want to burden him. But already she could feel her shoulders quivering, and her vision starting to blur.
Lifting her other hand up to press her palm against one of her eyes, as if trying to hold back the tears that were brimming in her eyes. She couldn't stop them, the tears, nor the new fear she felt clenching painfully at her heart. "They call themselves Team Rocket." She whimpered "They take pokemon from trainers, take pokemon from their homes." She shrank in on herself a little more, shoulders hunched as she leaned into her hand. "Right from their hands. And their isn't anything we can do about it."
Maybe it was best she was telling him this... maybe if he knew what it was like out there, he would leave... find a safer place to go to. Not that she... wanted to chase someone away. But if it would help keep him safe, keep Mieu safe. The Truth was always best, Rosie had to take some comfort in that.

"H-hey..." He reached a hand out in response to the innate wish to comfort her but thought better of it, turning his gaze elsewhere and raising the hand to his head to fiddle with his hair once more. First deed on arriving in the city: making a girl cry. Way to be a jerk, Luke. His raised hand settled at the back of his neck as he listened and tried to find the right words to respond.
"Don't... Don't worry, okay? Mieu'll be fine." A small "fieu" at Rosie's side, accompanied by a brief nuzzle against her leg, was the Flareon's addition to his master's assurance. "And if they give you trouble again..." Ugh, this was so lame. He turned his back to her, folding his arms nonchalantly behind his head. He didn't have to feel like such an idiot if he wasn't facing her. "If they give you trouble again, you can call on me. I'll do what I can."

In the midst of feeling horrible for the way she was acting right now, knowing better than to go crying right in front of someone like this. She tried to get herself under control again, sniffing around soft whimpers, finding that it only served to make things worse the harder she fought.
That was until he spoke, and there was a soft brushing against her leg from the Flareon below. Blinking more tears out of her eyes, The pink trainer lifted her head to see him turn his back to her... and say something she didn't expect to hear.
He wasn't turning around to leave, he wasn't angry at her for crying in public right in front of him, when they had just barely learned one another names. For as closed off as that posture left him, his words, while unexpected, sparked some more hope into Rosie. "Y... you would do that?" she asked weakly thought her emotionally wavering voice.
Just the fact he was saying that... knowing he wasn't a battler, and though Rosie knew how strong this Team Rocket was, for someone to step up and offer against the odds. For the moment at least, it helped her feel like she wasn't so alone in this.
"Even with as strong as they are?"she added with a tone of concern. "When you could just... go somewhere safe?"

"...Yeah. I would." He could help but feel extremely lame, throwing around lines like he was some kind of hero or something, but he couldn't just stand there while some girl stood in front of him behind him crying. That was easily twice as lame, and several times more guilt-inducing.
He lowered his arms and half-turned to regard her out of the corner of his eye. "I'm not just gonna run away and hide while a bunch of jerks bully some innocent girl, that's for sure. I'll do what I can, any time you need it." He owed her that much, at least, after bringing it up and beating it to the point that she got so upset.

More tears brimmed into her eyes, her brow furrowing as her face fought to keep this next wave of tears away. But oddly enough she wasn't so much crying because she was sad anymore, but touched. And even though she let out a sob, a smile worked its way over her lips, reaching up to rub at her eyes.
Kneeling down again, by Mieu, wrapping her arms around him in a gentle hug and burring her face into his mane. She believed him when he said the Flareon would be fine, well, she believed everything he had said. "Thank you, Luke" her muffled voice cried from the pokemon's fluff.

Mieu cooed happily in the warmth of the hug, offering a nuzzle in reassurance. The girl still cried, but it didn't seem that she was so sad anymore, and the Flareon was glad for that. Maybe his master had said something good?
Luke, meanwhile, was becoming acutely aware of the passing stares of pedestrians. It was midday, after all, and the streets were hardly deserted. "A-Anyway," Arceus, what kind of embarrassing crap was he spouting in the middle of the sidewalk? A brief shrug and a clearing of his throat were the methods he employed to regain his composure, "lunch or something, right?"

The pain of having her precious Pokemon taken from her wasn't leaving her, and she suspected it never would, but she didn't feel as hopeless as she had before.
Though asking her to leave the city to go on another journey... she wasn't likely to do that anytime soon, she still had a lot to think about. But really... would running and hiding be the best answer? Luke wasn't running, something made him stand his ground and stand up to the idea of a situation like that. Maybe she should think about doing that to...
Pulling back away from Mieu, hands still stroking his head, before she gave him a thankful kiss on the forehead and stood back up. hands brushing over her cheeks to wipe the tears away, eyes a little red and puffy, but she looked like she was feeling a little better. "Yes, we were getting Lunch. Its just around this corner."
She was holding him up from lunch, so after bending down to scoop up the Flareon into her arms, holding him securely so he didn't feel like he was going to fall she continued forward "No distractions this time."
She decided, she liked this Luke fon Fabre. He might not act like he's really interested or cares much about anything. he she could tell, he was a good person.

Mieu wriggled briefly, unaccustomed to being carried around by others, but soon settled into a comfortable position. It was a little scary being so far from the ground, but it was fun too, like jumping and never coming back down.
Luke noted the excited Flareon with a mild amusement before continuing at Rosie's side, mentally recounting their conversation. He probably wasn't taking the whole thing as seriously as he should have been, judging from how upset she was, but he certainly wasn't going to go back on his word now that he had given it. Where did those guys get off anyway, stealing pokemon? It even sounded lame. Weren't criminals supposed to pull heists or seize control of cities by taking the mayor hostage or something? Taking the companions of helpless kids was just pathetic.
He was almost definitely not taking it seriously enough, but he refused to entertain the idea.
True to Rosie's word, they needed not proceed much further before they were upon... well, what Luke suspected was likely the anticipated pizzeria. It looked like they served pizza, at least, and that was a start.
Arceus, his stomach was eating itself.

Familiar with this place, She walked right up to the front with a smile to the girl that was working there. "Good afternoon" she greeted warmly, earning a friendly smile from the hostess
"Two for Lunch today ma'am?" the girl asked and with a confirmation from Rosie, picked up two menus and lead them over to a free table.
Here Rosie put Mieu down, onto the seat of the booth, taking a seat herself. The women got the order for their drinks, and Rosie suggested an appraiser to start with.
Once the women walked away, the trainer reached out for her menu. "... your a good person Luke, I'm sorry I behaved that way in front of you, but what you said really means a lot... you don't hear that from to many people." She said, after a moment of silence, looking over the options on the menu.

Luke regarded the interior with a vague sense of wonder, his attention flitting from detail to detail as they moved through the building. He followed towards the table, seating himself opposite Rosie and mimicking her cue to observe the menu. There were a bunch of things listed with - thankfully - descriptions beneath, and it was a fairly simple task to figure out that these were the options he had to choose from to eat. But man, there were so many options, and all of them so different from each other... How did anyone just pick something?
He continued to marvel at the choices until Rosie's words redirected his thoughts. "It's not like it's a big deal..." he replied, nearly muttering. It was a lot harder to keep his eyes elsewhere when the person he was talking to was only a couple feet ahead of him. "I just said whatever came to mind. I mean, not that I didn't mean it, just..." Jeez, maybe he shouldn't have said anything if it was going to be so embarrassing. Of course if keeping quiet meant keeping her crying, then that wouldn't have been a good choice either...

She payed mind to the look on his face, just returning a gentle, but tired smile. Wearing the fatigue of such a powerful emotional reaction like she had, and her mind was still buzzing with questions she was going to need to answer for herself eventually. "Still." She knew some boys didn't know how to react being talked to like that, and now that she thanked him, and spoken her mind, she would let it be.
"So, Whats your favorite topping" She asked him, reaching out to pick up her glass of water.

It... sort of felt nice, being appreciated like that. Even if it was kind of awkward at the same time. Not that he had any plans to become some sort of intervening do-gooder as a result, but it was a nice change of pace, at least.
Her question redirected his attention once more, and he fumbled to find a reply. "Uh, well, I've nev-- I mean, I'm okay with anything." Not admitting he had never had a pizza with any topping other than scorched blackness. No way. "Er, not olives, but anything else."
Mieu watched the pair from his seat, resting his paws on the table in an effort to feel like a more proper part of whatever conversation they were having. Thus far he was aware of food and the fact that his master was embarrassed over something. This, in the Flareon's mind, was enough to constitute adding a sagely nod of agreement to the discussion.

When he cut himself off the first time, she tilted her head a little... he never what? Ordered a pizza? well, maybe he was just not families with whats good here.
Either way it didn't matter, and she was more than happy to make suggestions. "No olives, okay. hummm" she took a moment to scan over the menu in silence, blue eyes quickly scanning over names and descriptions.
"What do you think about this one," She spoke after her eyes lingered on one of the descriptions, reading it over a couple of times. Placing the menu on the table so he could see the one she was pointing to as she read the description allowed. "Spicy Italian sausage and sliced pepperoni on top of our signature pomodoro sauce with fresh julienne spinach, roasted garlic, banana peppers and mozzarella cheese." After reading it she looked up at Luke to see what he though, casting a smile at Mieu as well for his opinion. "That sounds pretty good huh?"
