Putting the down on the table, she turned her attention to Bent-Tail with a smile. "Mm, how about some cheese?" She opened up the package and broke a small bit off, kneeling low on the ground so that she could offer it to the mouse. While one hand was used to hold out the piece of cheese, she used her other hand to pet him, briefly turning to watch Shun at work.
It was a little hard to see from her angle, but she could tell that he was working quickly and fluidly, slicing up the ingredients with far more ease than Xiu would have expected. "That's impressive!" She couldn't help but speak up, her eyes wide with awe, "Where did you learn to do this?" Despite being someone who cooked a lot, Xiu had to admit that her own cutting was a lot more choppy. If she tried this, it wouldn't look nearly as pretty or...well, artistic.
She turned back to offer seeds to Bent-Tail, but only a few for now. Didn't want to overfeed him, after all! She was sure that the mouse would let her know if he was full though.

The miced tea stared at the bit of cheese intently before carefully taking it happily. He gave out a happy noise and nibbled at the bit of food while also receiving some pettings.
Hearing Xiu's comment, Shun glanced behind but didn't really say anything right away. Turning back around, he continued to fix up the sushi.
"..Thanks," he murmured. Finishing up, he cut up the rolls and whatnot before getting two plates and putting equal portions onto each plate. He added a glop of wasabi onto both dishes, as well as bits of ginger. Once that was all done, he grabbed them and turned towards Xiu.
"Tea or water?" he asked.

Upon noticing that Shun had finished, Xiu immediately stood up, holding her hands out so that she could take the plates to put them on the table. "Either is fine," She replied, smiling politely, "Tea would be nice, but if you don't have some already prepared, I don't want to be trouble. Water will do?"
Observing the sushi rolls that had been laid out on the plates, Xiu mused how...well, how pretty they looked. If it tasted as good as it looked, then the Baku would definitely be pleased. All the colors went together so well, from the pink, to the green, to the white...
Leave it to Xiu to admire the beauty of food.
"So is all sushi like this?" She pointed to the rolls curiously, "Or can you wrap anything inside?" And look, there was that green paste stuff that her father liked! Hmm, she definitely wanted to try some of that.

Nodding to her, Shun just went ahead and grabbed two glasses of water. He also got a bit of soy sauce in case it was needed. Setting everything down, the Reaper let out a breath and looked everything over to make sure he hadn't forgotten anything. Oh right. Chopsticks.
He quickly fetched two pairs, handing one to Xiu before finally sitting down.
"Not all. Some are more like slabs of fish over rice," he explained, "Some types are also more like a wrap type thing."
It was a little hard to explain, he supposed, and he wasn't really wanting to think too hard on it. With the chopsticks in hand, he looked towards the Baku and nodded to her, "Eat up."
In the meantime, Bent-Tail had finished up his seeds and was now very content and full. Letting out a little yawn, he went on over climb back onto Shun's shoulder, curling up and resting on his perch.

"Thank you." Xiu took the chopsticks with a grin, clicking them together. She hadn't used these in a while, but it was good to know that she hadn't forgotten.
Reaching out to grab one of the smaller rolls, she turned it around to scrutinize it carefully before popping it into her mouth, not bothering with the soy sauce or the wasabi for now. Furrowing her brows thoughtfully, the Baku chewed slowly, her face suddenly lighting up. Swallowing, her tail suddenly began to wag slightly as she grinned at Shun. "It's really good!" She complimented, kind of looking awed, "I didn't expect these things to go this well together!" She would definitely have to ask Shun how to make sushi at some point.
Until then, she turned back to the food, eying the green paste with interest. Rather than put it on her sushi though, she wanted to try it first, so she grabbed a little bit with her chopsticks and gave it a taste.
...Needless to say, she probably didn't find it quite to her liking when her eyes suddenly began tear up.

For a moment or so, Shun watched Xiu before taking a piece of sushi to eat for himself.
"Glad you like it," he said in his normal, neutral tone, "Not really something you'd expect but I guess that makes it a pleasant surprise."
Shrugging, he continued to eat before glancing up as he saw the Baku take some wasabi to try. He didn't say anything since he thought she might know what it is. However... it seemed this wasn't quite the case as he saw her eyes begin to tear up.
"... Try eating some of the ginger," he sighed, "Might help."

Oh Jack, whatever this stuff was, it was really strong. It wasn't even like a normal kind of spicy--instead of making her mouth burn, it felt like it rushed up her nose. By this point, the Baku looked like she was crying, tears slipping down her cheeks. Hopefully no one walked in and assumed the worst.
She chewed on a piece of ginger as per Shun's advice, followed by a big gulp of water. "W-what is that stuff?" She squeaked, wiping away her tears as she felt the sensation fade, "It kind of...burns." Xiu found that a bit unexpected considering what a bright shade of green it was. When she thought spicy, she thought red, not light green.
Going back to the sushi, she bit into another roll, clearly having recovered from the wasabi. "It really is a pleasant surprise," She agreed, grinning, "Thank you for making this. I'll have to learn how it's done sometime!"

Waiting a few moments, Shun watched Xiu as she recovered from that little experience before explaing.
"That's wasabi.. a sort of horseradish mustard paste," he said. If he had known she couldn't handle hot stuff too well, he would have said something before hand. ... Maybe.
Seeing her eating again, the Reaper continued on to each his own meal as well, dipping a few of the pieces into a mixture of soy sauce and wasabi. Glancing up towards the Baku, he gave a sort of shrug at what she said.
"Not too hard. Mostly gotta make the rice right... and make sure you have fresh fish," he explained.

Wasabi. Got it. Xiu was going to avoid that like the plague now. To prove her point, she pushed the green paste to the side of her plate, wrinkling her nose at it.
"How do you make the rice?" She asked, looking genuinely interested. She would have thought that the rice was the simplest part, but there was a different taste to it from rice that was simply steamed. "Hmm...it tastes like there's something mixed into this."
Clearly she was a lot hungrier than she thought, because it didn't take long until she had scarfed down her plate of sushi, her tail wagging contentedly behind her. "I never thought raw fish could be so good," She admitted, taking a sip of her water, "Where did you learn to make this?" She stood up, taking her plate with her so that she could rinse it off.

"Use short grained rice, some rice vinegar, salt, and sugar," Shun explained while finishing up the rest of his meal. As he spoke, his gaze was pretty much fixated on his sushi. Once he had finished, he turned his attention back up towards Xiu, shrugging at her next question.
"... My father taught me actually," he mumbled under his breath. Yes, he actually learned a few things from that man that wasn't really all that combat related. The other foods he knew, he had to kind of teach himself more or less.
Twitching slightly at the thought of it, he shook his head to himself.
"If you decide to buy premade sushi in the future, make sure it's fresh," he warned.

Committing the ingredients to memory, Xiu rinsed off the plate and dried it off, frowning as she tried to figure out where to put it. She was suitably distracted by Shun's mumble though, which she just managed to catch. "Is that so? That's lucky--neither of my parents can really cook." The Baku grimaced at the memory of some of the dinners that had before. If it weren't for their cook, they most certainly would have starved.
"What happens if I don't get fresh sushi?" Xiu already had an idea, but she asked anyways, looking a little worried at the possibility. It was a good tip though, especially since she was now familiar with--and enjoyed--sushi. It would only be expected that she want to try some again in the future.
With lunch being done, and Shun's debt having been repaid, the Baku decided that it was best not to linger around and impose on him for too long. Smiling, she bowed deeply at the waist, her hands clasped together. "Thank you for the meal!" Peering at him from beneath her bangs, she emitted a small laugh. "You really aren't a bad guy, aren't you?"

Shrugging at the comment on being lucky, Shun just sort of dismissed it. He didn't think it was really all that lucky but that was probably just him. Instead, he went right to her question on old sushi.
"You might get sick. It's raw fish and all," he said, "But I guess if you have a stomach that can take that sort of thing it wouldn't be a problem."
There were likely some monsters that could eat garbage and be alright. This wasn't the case for the Reaper who's body was more or less human.
Nodding to her as she thanked him, Shun paused when she laughed. He grimaced at what she said and twitched slightly as a result too. Something about it rubbed him the wrong way.
"I was just paying back what I owed," he said gruffly, kind of mumbling as he spoke, "You seem to be on good terms with Mitsu in any case."

Noting the slight twitch, Xiu straightened and tilted her head quizzically. Smiling sheepishly, she decided a little clarification would be good. "I just mean...w-well, you've probably noticed? I was kind of nervous around you earlier. And I...still am," She admitted, before quickly adding, "But less so now!"
Well, at least she was being honest?
"Mitsu's a really sweet ghoul." She chirped, brightening up suddenly. "Speaking of which, I'll have the prom pictures of you and Mitsu copied and sent to you if you'd like? Anyways, I've been enough trouble already, so I'll leave you to your peace." Smiling apologetically, she gave another bow--smaller and shallower this time--before heading towards the door, pausing only to turn around and wave at Shun and Bent-Tail.
"I, um, I'll 'see you guys 'round'!" That was the right thing to say at times like this, right? ...She certainly hoped so. With another smile and wave, she ducked out to return to the demon dorms.

The expression on Shun's face didn't really change all that much as Xiu explained things a little further. He wasn't really sure what to make of it really. Then again, he hadn't really decided if he preferred to remain intimidating to people or not. It was more of what he was used to for sure.
As the subject switched, the reaper shrugged to her question before watching as she started to head towards the door.
"Sure, whatever," He murmured before giving a sort of wave to the Baku, "Later."
When the girl had left, he shook his head to himself before going on to clean up the dishes and whatnot. Before doing so, he lightly set Bent-Tail onto the bed to let the sleepy mini nap in the meantime.
