Ilyia Nerian

An agent of light, hidden in the shadows...
I could never have dreamed this would happen.

At the sight of the Dragon, Ilyia halted quite suddenly, leaving her cloak to flow around and in front of her for a brief moment. The chains flying about the room could easily enough have killed her, had her entire figure not faded into a hollowed light of itself and rendered her immaterial for a time. As she reformed however, she forced herself to calm and looked back to Ptolemy and - upon seeing him again cowering in fear - frowned. She returned her eyes to the Dragon itself and formed a plan quickly in her head. She lowered her gaze and kept her heightened senses on full alert for any manner of approach. If an arrogant wretch such as the man behind her could leave her behind to deal with one adversary, she could do the same in return. Such were the guides in effect even before she had had a change of lifelong tactics. All or nothing this time, it seemed.
She lowered herself to a knee, still behind her cloak. However much she wanted to tell the man it was the same who fed this beast as the ones whose charred remains likely had been used for the chains, but she had no time to delay in her plans here. Not if she had any chance in gaining the upper hand. "With permission, great one..." She said in a declarative yet quiet tone, "I would speak."

This is what I was created for, though;
I can stand where she cannot. I can fight where she would fall.

The dragon laughed, a low, rumbling, guttural sound, and stretched its taloned hand on the ground, a low screeching sound resulting from the scraping of the claws on the stone beneath him.

"You, speak to me? And what is it, you small being, could possibly say to entertain me?" The dragon asked, a glint of amusement in his cold eyes. His tail uncoiled behind him and the arrowhead tip twitched. There was a single chain still attached to the dragon, on his left hind leg, but he paid it no mind. He yawned, displaying a great many sharp white teeth.

"The castle's keeper has fed me well today. I will tell you something little being. Play a riddle game with me and I will consider letting you past," He said, his voice booming. Ptolemy perked his ears up and looked interested for once. "We stand by the traditional riddle rules and we will go until one of us cannot guess a riddle," The dragon explained further, a glee in his eyes.

Ilyia kept her head lowered, and though she had little confidence in outwitting a dragon - or much else for that matter - she knew well enough there were circumstances she could use to her advantage. She smiled beneath her cowl and remained on a knee, keeping to her humble appearance even if she realized this would likely turn very short if her suspicions rang true.
"Very well," she said after a moment's hesitation, "If these are your terms, I accept." Certainly not what she had made an attempt for, but it would have to do in its stead. In fact she realized it might even facilitate her progress. Slowly - as if unsure - she rose to her feet, though her head remained humbly low. She remained perfectly still otherwise. "If I dare ask, what follows should I fail?"

This is what I was created for, though;
I can stand where she cannot. I can fight where she would fall.

"Well I get to eat you of course," The dragon said, flexing a hand while examining it. "And I get to keep your djinni friend as a pet," He said, indicating Ptolemy who's eyes widened in mock fear while his lips twitched with amusement. The lack of knowledge that the beast had revealed how many years he had been locked away in the hole of a room. No djinni would ever stay as a pet. Then again, Ptolemy's eyes narrowed at the silver claw tips that the dragon had embedded into his talons. Someone knew a djinni would be passing through.

As far as him lending help though, Ptolemy wanted to see the capabilities of the woman before he spoke up. Nor did he was to project his high intellectual status yet. He was being kind, he didn't want anyone comparing them to him. Ptolemy leaned back on his haunches and yawned.

Ilyia still did not move, did not even so much as think of fear. She was not helpless; she would defend herself if she had managed not to succeed. Still this was no simple Dragon. Any entity of the shadow inspired a manner of unease in her, such was her nature and irrevocable loathing of all things darkness. The fact that she was corrupted already and this was a Dragon did not help matters, but she had to remain calm.
Forget the game, the thought, kill it. She froze again, and forced the thought away. Time had done this, and it would continue so long as she failed the willpower to avoid giving in. "So be it," she said to the Dragon, "I accept your challenge."
She gave a bow and straightened again, cowl still lowered - and in fact she moved to ensure it was low enough to keep her entirety unseen. For a moment she doubted, and in spite of the same doubt she realized she may be able to inspire a small amount of ease in this game of the Dragon's... let alone how she had been familiarized in the higher planes of Keiris. "It has been my experience that one to issue a challenge gains the first move in a contest such as this, O great one." She paused in realizing she may have also just condemned herself, "I await your riddle."

This is what I was created for, though;
I can stand where she cannot. I can fight where she would fall.

The dragon grinned, its lips peeling back to again reveal its great teeth. "Very well, little being," He said before tapping the side of its head with a talon. He thought for a moment before speaking again, as if remembering what he wanted to say.

"A box without hinges, key or lid,
Yet golden treasure inside is hid." The dragon said in a low murmur, the sound still filling the room easily. Ptolemly rolled his eyes and sighed.

"Take it easy on her would ya?" He muttered sarcastically. "And be a little more original," He himself had heard that riddle tenfold over and knew the answer without applying any thought to it whatsoever.

Ilyia overcame her urge to growl quickly, but focused on the task at hand. In spite of the fact that she very easily had a guess at the answer she realized it could just as easily be something more literal, or less for that matter, but... she was solid enough in her guess that she would be comfortable fighting to defend it if she needed. After all, she knew very few treasures that were worth the slightest iota more than a particular emotion she had learned in her glory years...
The man's remarks behind her caught her on edge slightly, and though she struggled to remain still she tensed slightly, and her cloak tightened slightly in her movement within. Still she kept her head down, a chill rising and falling down her spine as she considered ramifications. Here goes for you then, Kares...
"The heart," she announced, lifting her cowl and looking up to the Dragon. Even if she was mistaken she would be ready to face down the resulting wrath. Still she held the look in her face, a confidence in her answer even if the primary purpose for looking up and revealing her face was such that she would not be so blinded by the cowl. Dual purpose had always served the Creation well.

This is what I was created for, though;
I can stand where she cannot. I can fight where she would fall.

Ptolemy buried his face in a clawed had and shook his head while the dragon chuckled, his tongue slithering through his lips before retreating again. The dragon shot an amused glance at the djinni before at the woman.

"I would say that I am sorry, but lies have never been taken lightly by me," The dragon said, his silver eyes flashing gold for a moment as he massive body moved, the final chain snapping. Ptolemy swallowed uncomfortably before standing as his first form again, moving towards a large brick that had been ripped from the wall.

"An egg little being was the right answer," The dragon said before reaching out to the woman with a clawed hand, thickly scaled in black scaled. His hand moved quickly and his fingers unclenched.

"Then I suppose you wouldn't say it at all..." Ilyia shrugged off her cloak and reached a hand in front of her, whereupon a sphere of silver light erupted into being around her and her stare turned utterly cold. Despite the shudder that ran through her entire being at the clawed impact the Dragon had delivered, the barrier held and she in fact made to reinforce it with a second hand's worth of energy. "I will say this, however. Not all casings are closed, and in no way is all treasure tangible. That you fail to believe in the worth of living emotion is not mine to put blame on."
Within the barrier a slight wind appeared to blow about her, slow but certainly noticeable. A building light seemed to encompass her immediate frame and dimmed after a moment. She was ready if needed, but still she held back slightly.
"Now, I care nothing for what you think of yourself. I act out of what respect is still in me and so I tell you now. Stand aside or I will be forced to kill you."

Begone, O foul hand of corruption.
My choices are my own to make now.

The dragon barked out laughter. "I like you, but a riddle game is sacred. The terms were laid out and you agreed to them. Now you must be eaten," He said, rising. He roared, a jet of flame rocketing towards the woman It broke off after a few seconds as it's head was hit by a rather large rock, thrown by Ptolemy. The dragon hissed as it redirected its attention to the djinni, and one of its teeth dropped to the ground, knocked loose by the rock.

Another jet of flame was broken off as a Detonation exploded beneath it, and Ptolemy slid under the dragon, looking back to the woman with an impatient gesture for her to follow him. She had amused him enough with her defiance for him to help her out. The lock on the door was easily undone with another well placed detonation.

Ptolemy held the door open as the dragon reared, obviously disoriented. Black dragon blood dripped from its underside, splattering on the floor. Its weight leaned from side to side, but it was only a matter of time before it regained its wit.

The sudden burst of action caught Ilyia slightly off guard, but in seeing the man's evident measure for her sake, she could not decline such an opportunity. She kicked up behind her and snatched her cloak with one hand, already having broken into a run directly under the Dragon's girth. With a slide beneath its mass developing immediately into a somersaulting jump awkwardly executed, Ilyia made her way into the next hallway slightly out of breath and down on a knee.
"Alright," she panted, "so you helped me. Why?" Despite the backwards reasoning in her asking it was sincere. So far as she knew the man had no reason to help her and no particular interest in her being alive at all. She rose to her feet and stepped a little further ahead before dropping to the wall, waiting for a response.

Begone, O foul hand of corruption.

Ptolemy regarded Ilyia with a slightly intrigued look in his eyes as he chuckled. The door faded into the rock behind them leaving them utterly alone in a short, exitless hallway, a blue light filling it from no discernible source.

"You have a good sense of pride. It amuses me," He said with a smile before walking past her and to the relative middle of the hallway. The bare walls and checkered floor made him sigh in disgust, even if the looking glass at the end intrigued him. "Ugh, what imp aided such a tasteless summoner?" He muttered under his breath, eyes looking all around, processing the lack of things to process.

"There must be a point to it all..." He murmured in a more serious tone, approaching the glass and scrutinizing his own reflection, sneaking a glance at Ilyia with curiousity before looking at the frameless looking glass again with a sigh.

An agent of light, hidden in the shadows...

Ilyia pulled her cloak about herself and raised her cowl before looking back to what lay ahead. She had never been a fan of puzzles, but for one to stump a man of this man's evident genius had her stuck without any sense of capability for the matter. Still his words struck her as blatantly obvious and she stepped forward to regard it. "It would be so much easier for us to communicate if I had something to call you, you know..." she mused, "I can only come up with titles for so long before I start sharing my opinions of them."
Still her words only came idly out of her, while she focused primarily on the glass and the layout of the room. Nothing of it made sense right away, but all the same nothing did in a situation such as this. She looked about for any source of the odd light through the room, and in failing to find one closed her eyes a moment and let her supernal senses cover for it while still she thought. The floor wouldn't be the way it is if it had no function... a light with no source and a mirror at the end of it. I wonder...
Still maintaining her heightened awareness, Ilyia stepped over to the mirror and inspected it and its surroundings for anything that may have hinted that it could be re-angled. "As for a point, I think given this lighting you may be standing on it." She indicated the walls behind her, "Tasteless doesn't allow variation. That floor is this place's variation."

This is what I was created for, though;
I can stand where she cannot. I can fight where she would fall.

Ptolemy humphed and crossed his arms. "Light can come from many places without coming from one at all," He said, raising his hand and directing a Detonation at the glass. The resulting noise was ear shattering, but neither glass nor wall suffered damage. "So much for that. Must be embedded in silver or something," He muttered.

"Obviously you haven't been to Prague. Have you ever seen those bathrooms?" Ptolemy shuddered and shook his head. "Nasty, and downright tasteless. Tasteless does too have variation, if you look at how one magician's variation of the word varies from the next. Now Mariidian, he had taste," The djinni prattled one, subtly tapping the floor in various places nonetheless. He would not let this woman out wit him, and after determining the floor was safe and sound, he turned back to the mirror.

His nose was nearly touching it as he examined the surface of it, attempting to ignore the reflection in it and merely see the mirror. It was right about the time that he was sidetracked and amusing himself by changing his eye color that he noticed his breath was not fogging on it.

"Huh." He said, raising an eyebrow. Raising a hand, he looked at it before poking the mirror. Instantly he jumped back with a hiss, watching the surface ripple, but his finger burned from being exposed to silver. He glared at it, realizing that there was no way he could force himself through it.

"There must be another way," He said to himself, examining his burned finger gingerly before tapping on each tile of the floor, beginning back by the mirror and working slowly up towards the woman.

"As for title you could call me Great Djinni of the Nine Wars." Ptolemy suggested. He debated saying nothing else; he paused in his tapping for a moment. Then he merely said, "Ptolemy Abhiba is a nice worthy name too,"

Ilyia simply shook her head at the oncoming stream of babble from the Djinni, and despite all her prior guesses she realized how perfectly his title had fit the situation. She shook her head in realization of her own ignorance, and stepped forward to the mirror to test its odd surreality for herself. "You know, I've learned time and again that if you use what's available to you, you succeed." She reached further in, testing to see if she could manage her entire frame through.
"I suppose while I'm being ironic and helping your case I might as well introduce myself. Ilyia Nerian, former head of the Silverlight Order. Silverstar, in a few crowds that know what happened a while back."
She didn't have time to be judgemental. This Ptolemy didn't seem to be in any particular position to necessitate evildoing, and she did have a bit of moral obligation to return what favor had been granted her. "I assume, given your nature you prefer not to be taken by your first name?"

This is what I was created for, though;
