Armagnac sounded sleepy.
Hush, Sherry replied grumpily. Jake's reaction had stung her a bit, in her pride and her heart. She hated to admit it, but it had. And Sherry knew Armagnac would rub it in later.
For the next few heartbeats, Sherry stood watching Jake walk away and listening to Armagnac complain. Then she sighed. He'd said he was busy and not in the mood to talk. If he found her aggravating, she wouldn't have been surprised.
Armagnac gave, what counts for her anyway, a sigh.
Sherry started to turn around, and then suddenly remembered something. She'd been meaning to ask the brat about that book he had! She'd completely forgotten about it in the aftermath of all that had happened.
Her eyes went back to Jake.
Tomorrow, she told herself. She'd hunt him down and ask him tomorrow. She had things she needed to think about anyway.
