"They cut my shifts," he said finally, and he found it difficult to keep the accusation out of his voice when he did. "She said I seemed stressed out. So I'm off day after tomorrow. Show up whenever. Show up the normal way," he added. "Please."
"Uh huh." That was settled then. Finally, he flashed Sawyer a smile -- easy, wide, full of teeth -- and rolled his shoulders in a shrug, turning to go for real. "Call me before that if you want an apartment that's less of a shithole."
