The grip on his sleeve gave him pause, his eyes still focused on hers, "They might be yours but I care about not making them worse just as much," his own hand still on her shoulder.
She continued to speak, looking away at the mention of Noah, his hands moved one gently on her other shoulder, tugging her into a small hug. "Peyton. You know I'd do that for you." He only held the hug for a moment a small smile on his face before he too started to skate backwards, "C'mon, this is a good song, we should skate again."

The hug, brief as it was, proved to be unexpectedly comforting and needed. Stiffening initially, she relaxed after only a short handful of seconds, and by the time he'd let her go she seemed less lost. Not better, per-say, but more present. Her hands found his as he started skating backwards, and she slid along with him, trying to let go of every other worry and unpleasant little thought that had been circulating through her head. It didn't fully work, but the music was helping, and of course, good company.

He didn't let go at the stiffening pose, his arms still held around her as she slowly relaxed. Nothing was said, nothing had to be said.
Slowly he continued backwards hands twined slipping along, he didn't say anything he just kept skating a small smile on his lips as he saw a bit more of the Peyton he knew creeping back in.
"Doing better?"

"A little bit." At least for the moment. so long as she kept her mind on what she was doing, who she was with, she could enjoy herself. It was just a matter of pulling off the impossible. The music continued, and for a little while Peyton as quiet as they skated around in slow, lazy circles. But keeping in the now was hard, and eventually that little frown returned, growing larger before finally she let out a soft sigh. "Noah and I broke up." She didn't want to discuss it, but if Roland was going to be forced to cater to her moods maybe he deserved to know the root of the problem.

"Good," he declared with that same smile as they continued to skate, slowly winding around the soft turn of the skating ring.
Drifting along the song shifted and the slow process of skating along continued as Peyton began to frown. The sudden deceleration caught him off guard. His pace slowed a bit and he fished out his phone curiously looking at the text before his own sad frown grew.
"That... I asked him about that actually, why you seemed so sad, I just never checked the text once we started skating..." The frown persisted, "For what it was worth, I thought you two where okay together."

The news that Roland had asked Noah about her mood hit her like an actual blow, and she wasn't actually sure how she felt about it. Of course the Mist hadn't realized this was what had happened. He'd wanted to help, wanted to be a good friend. It made sense, contacting Noah, because Roland hadn't known any better, and how could he when Peyton hadn't wanted to talk about it? But it bothered her, because she was still mad at Noah, mad at the entire situation, It still dug painfully deep. Hearing that she and Noah had 'been okay together' really didn't help. It just stole the humor from her features, expression closing down once again.

And just like that it was all gone again, a simple few words and he'd taken what little joy had built up and torn it apart. It was exactly what he'd feared. That anything he did would push her away.
"Pey you know I would only ask him because I thought he might knew. I didn't even begin to think that the two of you had broken up till now." Though it did explain a lot.
The song drifted to an end, the next one paused as the DJ announced events and things that mattered little in the moment.
"..I don't want to dig at it, we're here, and I said I would be here for you. So it's your call. Stay, go, talk, don't talk."

"I know." She pushed at the irrational annoyance, managed to shove it down and away. This wasn't Roland's fault, none of it was. He was just trying to be a good friend, and he didn't deserve any of the anger she was feeling towards Noah. She looked up at him as the announcer talked, not hearing a word that filtered over the speaker, but as the next song started she'd give his hand a small tug to get him moving again. "I don't want to talk about it, so let's just skate, alright?"
