"Thankfully not." Claire lowered the phone once Vesna was done looking, replacing it in her pocket. "He's spending time with his dad today. But too be fair, I've been monopolizing him a lot since he came home." And again, she was struck by how close a call it had been; she had been so on the fence about bringing him.
"I think you've been very helpful too, Rhedefre," she added with a smile. "You were the only one who thought to go above the birds to see where they were coming from, after all. That's nothing to scoff at." She giggled softly at Vesna's enthusiasm, which brought to mind her getting to see Cesc show off these powers a little bit during the Anniversary Tea in order to calm the distraught Aina. "By the way.. I still have the light bee you made for me." She had placed it on the shelves in Lorin's room, among her music box collection; he had been too preoccupied with settling in that he had not noticed it yet, perhaps she should get it down for him. She brought it up by means of piquing Vesna's interest even more, and smiled in the rusalka Frei's direction as she did so.

Cesc laughed as the two ladies tried to assure him of his usefulness; he hadn't meant to throw himself a pity-party, but still, he was dismayed at how uncomfortable it was not to know where lost things were. No wonder Shep would bother him immediately whenever he lost his keys…
It was astounding to him, the futility of their search on such a small amount of earth. He peeked around the headstone to look sympathetically at Vesna. "That sounds like a huge drag. I'm sorry you've got to deal with that."
He began to search on the other side and pulled out his phone, unlocking it. "Oh, that's awesome you still have that! I'll make something for Lorin when we meet, if you like…" He talked as he typed 'sailor scout' into google images and then held it out to Vesna. "Want any of these accessories, Sailor Vesna?"

"I want to monopolize him!" Vesna insisted. "When can I meet him??" She looked back and forth between Claire and Lorenzo for an answer.
Lorenzo laughed. "Well, any time that's fine with Claire is okay with me."
Vesna shrugged as Cesc apologized to her. "NBD, Cesc," she replied, pronouncing the letters in rapidfire succession. "I don't even remember the hundreds of years of death and misery, so, like, it doesn't really bother me. Buuuut, I'm still not about to go and get all sad again if I can help it. Been there, done that."
"But if you do remember the hundreds of years of death and misery, we'll work it out through intense afterlife counseling," Lorenzo said briskly.
"Yeah, that'll cheer me up," Vesna drawled.
Her eyes widened when she pulled out his phone and she stammered, "A-any...?" Behind her, Lorenzo was shaking his head furiously. "You can make any of these??" She heard Claire mention the bee and asked, "And I can keep it forever?!"

"My schedule is pretty open so I think we can work something out." Claire giggled at the Frei's excitement, pleased and flattered. Even though he was not here himself, Lorin was already drawing some interest and she was very excited to go home and tell him about the prospective playdates he had coming up. "We'll just have to cook up something fun, won't we?" She smiled at Lorenzo.
She skirted the wall a bit, feeling as though they were grasping at straws. If only there were a stronger indication than their compass, but that would make things too easy, wouldn't it? The exchange between Cesc and Vesna drew more smiles, and she heaved herself back up and walked over, leaning curiously over to see the kinds of things that had enamored the Frei so. While she did not quite understand their significance, they certainly were eye-catching - the girls in the images certainly looked familiar, as well, but she could not place it. "The bee has been around for almost a year so I'd say they have a pretty good shelf life," she added.

Rhedefre closed his eyes tightly and blinked a few times to refresh, feeling like he was going crazy--or that the compass was wrong. How could a fel essence be so hard to spot?! It was maddening.
"Don't worry," he said to Vesna, "I don't know of anyone who remembers anything from their past lives."
To Claire, he grinned widely and added: "hey, if you've got any spare time between Lorin getting monopolized, we'd love to have him at the bakery--no pressure though, we know it's probably tough for the little guy, meeting so many."
He looked back down at the clovers, now trying to peek between them to see if anything was hiding beneath--he was loathe to dig atop a grave, especially with Lorenzo around--when he heard Vesna's exclamations. "Sure! Shouldn't be too hard. They'll be made out of light I harden, so they'll be as sturdy or bendy as you want, and durable--unless you ask me to reform it or break it. I can only really make them gold or silver right now; sunlight or moonlight. And no promises if I die; that'll be in Lorenzo's court."
Why was Lorenzo shaking his head so much…?

"Well, if I do remember anything," Vesna said airily, "I want it to be something cool, like that I was a princess, or that I had an eternal, heart-wrenching true love, or something."
"We don't have all the records, but the evidence suggests that you weren't a princess," Lorenzo asserted helpfully.
"ANYWAY," Vesna continued, "I didn't know you had a bakery, Cesc! Do you make cute food?" She pulled out her phone and brought up her blog, which was mostly full of anime screencaps and aesthetic pics of baked goods and flowers. "Like this?? Can you teach me? After you make me a magical girl wand?"
She gasped and reached for his arm, asking him very solemnly: "Are you saying you can make a Sailor Moon wand out of actual moonlight?"
When Claire assented to letting her visit Lorin, she said, "I can't wait! I can bring him a phone charm! Does he have a phone? Would he like that, do you think?"
"We should coordinate schedules," said Lorenzo, "After we find all these Fel Essences. Honestly, I'm a little concerned about the type of person who would go to this length to steal them and then just release them willy-nilly like this."

"Honestly, he hasn't met anybody outside of the family yet so there is plenty of opportunity. I know he has to be eager to meet some new friends." Claire felt a touch guilty admitting that, until she remembered what he had narrowly avoided dealing with in staying home today. "He's still getting used to things so I didn't want to overwhelm him by bringing him today, but we will definitely be coming by the bakery. I'll be sure to text you and give you a head's up though." She felt Lorin might like the stag Raevan - after all, he had been such a help with Aina with his calming and friendly demeanor, he seemed the type who would be very good with kids. Vesna, too, seemed like she would be very good for Lorin. Engaging, cheerful, and passionate - all very good things for her own young Frei to make him feel comfortable.
Lorenzo's statement drew her back to the task at hand and she renewed her search, frowning deeply at the cloverpatch at her feet.
"An anarchist of some kind, sounds like," she said with a half-joking tone, but the more she thought about it, the more sense it seemed to make. "Stealing scientific research is not something that's new, however.. doing this does strike me as odd."

"Well, you know your kiddo best. Standing invite," said Cesc, straightening and re-adjusting his hat, smiling over at Claire. Frustration was starting to creep up on him and as he looked back down to the patch of clovers, his expression faded to one of annoyance. He exhaled through closed teeth.
"Yeah, I guess the argument could be made that fel essences shouldn't be used to make us, since they're such rare natural things--but they had to know we'd just go back out and get them…" he sighed.
Turning back toward her as Vesna's voice became grave, Cesc broke back into a smile. "That's exactly what I'm saying." He peeked at her phone then, too, eyebrows raising. "Oh, man. Yeah, you're gonna love--go to @vermillionbakery," he said, spelling out the handle to help. "That's what we make… let me know if that strikes your fancy."

Lorenzo frowned. "If they were protesting that, you'd think they'd make it clearer. I can't help but wonder if releasing all these fel essences is like the birds-- a distraction."
"Well, whatever the reason, we're lucky we have a chance to get them back," Vesna demurred. "If only finding them again wasn't so hard--"
She flopped back onto the grass for a moment and pulled out her phone, typing the bakery's handle into Instagram. "OMG, Cesc!!" she exclaimed. "These are so pretty!! You make these? You're amazing! Pleeeease teach me to make them, too!" She looked over at Lorenzo and asked, "I can learn to make them, right?"
"Sure," said Lorenzo, "I'll look at my schedule, and--"
"I can go on my own!" Vesna insisted. "You're always so busy, if you have to check your schedule for everything I want to do, I'll only get to do things on Sunday and some weekdays after five."
"Well, let me at least get someone to accompany you," Lorenzo rebutted.
"Fine," huffed Vesna, "But someone cool."
Looking back shyly now to Cesc, she leaned in and showed him pictures on her phone, asking, "Can you make it a work like a mirror...? If you can, what about the Crescent Moon Compact?" She started getting enthusiastic, and explained, "Sailor V uses it to transform! But if I had one, I could just use it to carry around for when I need to eat."
"Oh," said Lorenzo, "That's surprisingly practical."
"Of course!" Vesna rebutted. "If Cesc is going to make it himself, I want to be able to use it a lot to show my appreciation."

Okay, it seems like looking for a four leaf clover is actually harder than one thinks. Especially in a clover patch this size.
(( Roll any numbers that end with a 4 to find the four leaf clover - 4, 14, 24, 34, 44 ))

"Hey, you can't hold onto them forever, Lorenzo, they need some freedom to spread their wings," Claire added with a chuckle, and then tagged on after a moment of thought, "although I understand being hesitant to let them go." Vesna was a very enthusiastic sort and it was a fairly safe bet, she was certain, that she would get out one way or another. Guardian and Frei were very different from each other in demeanor, she noted, but with that note of practicality, perhaps not so different after all.
"I think that's fair," she agreed. "I'd want to use something like that as often as possible if I were in your shoes, too." She nodded in affirmation before casting her gaze back down, trying to get back to the task at hand. Why was the Essence so evasive?

Cesc laughed at the back and forth between Vesna and Lorenzo. "Do I not count as accompaniment? If I don't, I can promise that Vivi, my guardian, will be there. She'd love to meet Vesna anyway, actually… I think you two would probably get along really well."
He continued to another patch of clovers. "Do you guys think it's invisible? We can't find it because it's a freaking invisible clover?"
Then, looking up at Vesna, he said: "and yeah! I'm happy to make that if you find me a good picture of it--as soon as we find this essence, if you want."

"Oh no," Lorenzo replied to Cesc. "I couldn't trouble you to fetch Vesna, teach her, and bring her back. We should start working these things out anyway. I'm sure this won't be the last time my schedule won't fit to accommodate her."
"It's not the first time, either," Vesna remarked innocently.
She brightened up when Cesc said he could make the compact. "Cesc!! You're the best!" she insisted, grinning widely. Rolling up her sleeves, she swore, "Invisible or not, I'm going to find that essence right away!"

While conversation marched on, Claire bent down again, tracing hands through the clover, pulling some aside to look beneath. She squinted - was there something they were missing?
She caught the last snippet from Vesna and chuckled. "I admire your determination, but let's hope it's not actually invisible or otherwise we're not going to be much help overall.." She chewed her lip thoughtfully.

Cesc started to laugh helplessly as they all doubled down in their efforts, the ridiculousness of the situation filtering through for him: how many Lab people does it take to find a single clover that is somehow different in a field full of identical clovers?
"This is so incredibly unlucky," he said through laughter, starting to individually go through each clover. "I can't believe this."
