Punx_Spike SkIPpY_KnIVeS i started my first DIY project, i'm modifying a vest...now i just need patches and studs for it In my personal experience, Ive found that Crust Punks has the best deals for patches and studs and spikes. There all in the spirit of DIY, so you know they know what there doing. Heres the link www.crustpunks.com. HAVE FUN DUDE! That's cool. I'm looking for some cheap ones because I'm about to purchase a denim jacket to cut up and put some patches on. One question: What is the general consensus on the best way to apply a patch? There's sewing, but I don't have any materials to sew. Someone suggested using safety pins by putting the pin on the inside of the vest and looping the bar on the outside so you just see the little bar of silver. Thoughts or suggestions?

If you don't, i say safety pin it, just try to do it as close to the edges as possible, so it won't fray WAY too much EDIT: i just ordered all my crap, i got it from AYP, just 'cause they got the bigger studs for less, and one cool patch that shows a nazi skin with a shot gun in his mouth and says; "Yo Bonehead, ram a bullet down your neck"

Honestly, sewing isnt that hard, and all you need to get to sew patches on is some black thread and a sewing needle. It wont cost you much, so if you want to make sure you patch stays on and doesnt get ripped out at shows then I suggest sewing it. If you have no clue on how to sew you can always look up step by step instructions online, thats how I learned. Once again, have fun with your s**t dude!

I have a denim jacket that I've screwed around with a bit. Unfortunately, the only store near where I live that I can buy punk stuff at is Hot Topic, and my parents absolutely forbid buying anything from the Internet because they're uber paranoid about identity theft. Actually, they're uber paranoid about everything... Anyway, so I put an iron-on Umbrella Corporation patch just above the left breast pocket so that it looks like an employee patch, except I'm gonna hafta sew it on 'cuz the glue's coming off. I have a Sex Pistols patch on the back on the right shoulder, a Straight-edge patch on the right side on front, but it's kinda sewed wierd so it's all bunched up. I took a black sharpie and drew a large heart on the left sleeve (it's from a line in Rank-N-File by Anti-Flag) and I used duct tape and wrote "Mad Sin" on the back.

I wanted to stud it, but not go totally overboard so that the jacket weighs more than I do. So what I had planned was to just outline the patches in pyramids, though I'm not sure.

I haven't done any full DIY projects yet - I'm such a lamester. lol What I usually do is head over to the Salvation Army and buy clothes that are selling for 50 cents, then modify them up. I got my leather jacket for only $7, and the studs (like Spike said) from crustypunx for cheap. Here's some piccies of stuff I've actually gotten around to modifying, if anyone cares. =D I'm not the best in the world at sewing, but it's better than nothing. Not like I have a sewing machine, yanno? http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v114/birdybrain/skirt4.jpg Leopard print skirt I shredded, used some of the fabric on the collar of my jacket. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v114/birdybrain/jacket1.jpg I haven't bought any patches yet - this is one a friend gave me, and he colored some of the stripes black. Yeah, man. Black flag. xd http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v114/birdybrain/jacketbah.jpg Here's the back of my jacket. I was gonna do the Gorilla Biscuits logo but I'm just not that talented. So there's a stencil from stencilpunx plus an honorary mention for the Start Today record. :d The studs are from crustypunx - listen to Spike, he knows what he's talking about. smile I need to get some more, actually, a few fell out. I think I might replace them all with pyramid studs and use the diamond shaped studs for something else. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v114/birdybrain/3dollaboots.jpg Some badass boots I got for three bucks. They make me tall. biggrin Not a lot I can to do modify them... so far. twisted http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v114/birdybrain/pants1.jpg Some fifty cent pants I pegged nice and tight. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v114/birdybrain/shirt1.jpg A shirt that I messed with, mostly the collar. I might take the sleeves off and tighten it up one of these days. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v114/birdybrain/gggai.jpg Completely covered in Salvation Army clothes. ******** the man. xd Pretty soon I'mma get some wax paper and acrylic paint and start making my own band shirts. That should be interesting.

I started putting studs and patches on me jacket today, it's turned out pretty good so far, still a little bit of lining on the inside, but it's not noticable, so i'm not worrying about it

Yeah, just don't go nuts with the safety pins. You'll look like a mallpunk if you cover your jacket in safety pins. If you know any kids in home ec. or s**t who can cross-stich, they can make you patches as long as you give 'em the logo you want. =) Sounds cool so far.
