[ Bio Hazard ] I have a few black cats. Nothing like that happening where I live. I'd kill anyone if they killed my cats. stare This was a year or so ago when a couple of my cats were only kittens.  How could that cute little thing possibly be bad luck???

Many pet stores and shelters ban: * Rabbits around easter (even major chains like PetCo have bans on this) * Puppies and Kittens around Christmas etc. The animals that are acquired either as impulse purchases or gifts for people (who may not want them) often suffer for it. After Christmas, etc. there is a HUGE influx of cats and dogs into shelters, because people are "returning" (read dumping off unwanted lives) gifts they didn't want, or were too much work, etc. People just suck. Let's put it that way. Exactly what I was going to say. Getting an animal for a holiday and then returning it after the buzz is sick. Would you adopt a black child for Black History Month or something, only to return him/her after the month ends?! Didn't think so. scream

Foul Fiend Around where I live they are like banning black cats so you cant adopt one during this week because of halloween. They said that its so people dont sacrifice them. I thought this was a little bit funny, is it like this where other people live? Thank you, America. *claps*

... Yeah. That's not actually true although it is a common myth. Many black cats have been killed through ignorance and hysteria through the years including during various witch hunts. They did not go extinct however. For one thing, this didn't happen in every country, just Europe pretty much. Black cats were un-touched in the rest of the world. The main difference is that among "mutt" cats (moggies, alley cats, stray cats, common mixed cats like most people own, domestic shorthair/longhair) many black cats now have some white on them. A few white hairs on their chest, a white spot, etc. And by now, black is again common in mutt cats, as it's been a loooong time since any black-only-murderous-rampages against kitties, and cats have a very short generation in which they reproduce (they can have kittens by the age of six months, etc.). However, among purebreds this was never a problem, and they've bred completely black cats for a long time. As a note black isn't always "black" just like white hairs are often transparent, not white. A lot of black cats have hints of stripes, or are sable in the sunlight and so on. This isn't new, just the way we percieve colors and the way genetics work. The color black has various different genes that can make a black-appearing cat. Which ones are commonly manifesting depends on the breed.

Foul Fiend Yea I remember last year when I had to go to this redneck school because of the storm, and someone took a cat and hooked it up on the flag pole by its neck I think and the cat strangled and they shot at it with blue painballs and shot up the sidewalk. That's terrible! And just the sort of thing those little ******** around here would do to my poor Monoxide...We named him for the poisonous gas Carbon Monoxide, and he's solid black. We keep him inside every Halloween, Maytel (aka Kitty) too. My grandmother shows just how good she is at the whole lying to yourself thing (aside from being a devout Christian) she says she's sure her cat, Grizelda, went to a better home, despite the fact she knows that there were some boys down the street shooting their bb guns at random animals. The fact that little shitheads like them exist is why I'd like to get out of this hellhole/village thing.

Its sad and disgusting what some people do to animals. We keep our cats indoors, because we live in an area with predators, and because we don't know who is out there that might decide to carry out their sick ideas on our poor kitties. Not to mention it helps with flea-control xd .
People are just rotten sometimes. I will never understand why people think that animals are incapable of feeling pain or anything, just because they can't articulate their feelings like we do. Or why people think that its ok for us to do things because we're the dominant species on Earth...

Yeah it was like that for me as well. But, I was living in a small city in a place where Christians are about 99% of the population. So yeah......I am glad I moved =D
I wish I had a black cat though. I am sure my dog wouldn't appreciate it though.....
