Two men walk into a tavern and sit down at the bar. When the serving girl walks up, she asks them what they want. Not looking at each other, they both order ice water. The girl then gets two glasses out, fills the cups from the icebox and then dispenses the water from her beverage nozzle. When the men are satisfied, she leaves.
As the two start drinking their ice water, they begin to talk. One man finds out the other is a police officer while the second is a former convict who was cleared of charges because of a lack of evidence in his appeal. Their conversation did not last long before the former convict got a phone call on his cellular phone. Having finished his ice water, he made his pardons by shaking hands with the officer and left the tavern.
The serving girl passed by and asked if the officer wanted a refill on his partial glass of water, though he declined. An hour later and with an empty glass, the officer died of poisoning. How did the former convict kill the police officer?

How did the former convict kill the police officer? The concivt killed the officer with contact poison delievered when they shooks hands. It does not say that the water was poisoned, just that he finished it before he died. The contact poison simply took an hour to work allowing the officer enough time to finish his drink. The convict was not poisoned because he could easily wear gloves or a protective cover on his hands. But answers aside, who else thinks the sentence "...and then dispenses the water from her beverage nozzle. When the men are satisfied, she leaves." sounds dirty? rofl rofl

Kai Karasurei But answers aside, who else thinks the sentence "...and then dispenses the water from her beverage nozzle. When the men are satisfied, she leaves." sounds dirty? rofl rofl Bad Kai scream *stuffs Kai in a box* You can't come out until you promise to behave.
And to attempt to stay on topic... This thing all things devours: birds, beasts, trees, flowers; gnaws iron, bites steel; grinds hard stones to meal; slays king, ruins town, and beats high mountain down.
Extra points to the person who correctly identifies the book I got that from and what the next question therein is. Your hint is another riddle from earlier therein:
It cannot be seen, cannot be felt, cannot be heard, cannot be smelt. It lies behind stars and under hills, and empty holes it fills. It comes first and follows after, ends life, kills laughter.

And the wording is quite humorous, I must add. hehe

It could still be a transfer poison, but one requiring ingestion rather than seeping in through skin pours. The officer could have had the poison transfered to his hand by the convict after the convict had it transfered to his own hand via the cell phone. As the officer drinks his drink, some of the poison passes onto his lips. Afterall, the lips are one of the best entry points for contact poison and it allows for ingestion.
I can't see it being a "two-step" activated poison. That requires two "food-types" to be used. If that were the case, the water and ice would have also killed the convict. However...we aren't told that the convict isn't dead, too.
In otherwords...I have absolutely no idea xd

How did the former convict kill the police officer? *guessing* The serving girl was a former convict who poisoned him? *gasp* Or maybe no one poisoned him, and he had alcohol poisoning because he drank so much after the other guy left? It says he doesn't want a refill of water...who's to say he didn't get rip-roaring toasted in that hour? Eh? xd Am I right? ninja

How did the former convict kill the police officer? The last thing I can think of is this: The answer to the riddle, which asks "How did the former convict kill the police officer?" is that he posined him. It says so right in the riddle.... ... ... ... What? I answered the question, right?
