He smiled. "Well, then..." Violet eyes were amused as Duo stared at the blushing stallion. "It is nice that all loose ends are tied up, isn't it?" He flushed now as well, wondering just how much further this conversation could go. It was so very, very awkward....

"Yeah..." Well, this had gotten awkward, hadn't it? As Safi saw it, he could take off right now before things got anymore awkward, or he maintain some semblence of dignity (not that he techincally had any) and behave like a normal civilized Soquili (which he wasn't, but was good at faking). Given those options...he went for the latter.
Doing his best to ignore the flush on his face, Safi calmly and deliberately flopped down on the ground a safe distance from the other stallion. "So, Duo...you're a babysitter around here, or what? OR did you just help with Yue a lot?" Safe topic.

Duo settled down as well, nosing about in the grass in hopes of a flower. "Well, I liked Yue. She was a smart kid. Firey. Passionate from birth. She has her mother's hot blood in her, but the brains of her father, I swear. Somehow, raised with the family she has, she is still as innocent as a child sometimes." he shook his head. "It makes me jealous. And I want to protect it." his voice was fierce there. "Yue's like... family. All of them there are. And I'm the big man of the herd." he gave a wink. "Gotta take care of my ladies."

That comment brought forth a short bark of laughter. "Protect Yue? Somehow I can't see her letting anyone do that, not even when she was a foal. That little girl always had an attitude, didn't she?" Yet Safi was grinning, that question not so much a question as a statement. Anyone who knew Yue knew that statement was undertstated at best!
"And Selly...I gather she didn't know you had that protective idea, or else didn't take it seriously; that girl's independent to high-heaven, after all!" And there was complete honesty in his grin, having been on the receiving end of that honesty from time to time. "But I can understand the desire; hell, I wound up feeling paternal about Yue, and the closest thing I am to her is her mother's friend." Not even step-father; that ship had sailed a long time ago, after all! But that didn't change his fondness for both mother and daughter...
"Have you been with this herd long, Duo?"

He grinned. "No, she was independent, not stupid. She always made sure one of us knew where she was going, if she went out at night. During the day we didn't worry as much. There were so many of us, and we almost all wander about. So if she ran across an obscene amount of us, who were we to disillusion her that it was coincidence?"
He shifted. "Those two made all of us protective. Tehya and Selene were the first two in the herd. We don't worry about Tehya, unless she doesn't come to graze in the evenings. And Selene though... something about her has always been weak. Needy. She's stong on many levels, but she wants something, and I don't even know SHE knows what it is."
"And I have been with the herd for a while." he thought about it. "I came here... several months ago. I remember waking up, cold. I don't remember being a child, or anything before the cold."

Safi felt a slight pang of guilt at Duo's comment about Selene. Needy? She hadn't come to see him as something to fill that need, had she? Something that she'd set her sights on, only to have torn away...
No. She wouldn't have handled his admission so well otherwise, wouldn't have been so supportive of him. She was a great girl, Selene, and he'd probably think of her in the possessive fashion until she...or more likely BOTH of them had found someone else. But man was he going to be eyeing up those guys she found...though he'd probably set the bar pretty high.
That thought made him all but snort with laughter; he'd never deluded himself into thinking that he was an ideal speciman of male, but he couldn't tease even himself that way. Ah, the idea...
But it only took him a little while to get a grip on his laughter and return to the topic of conversation. "So you've been around long enough to get the protective thing, basically. Well, that's hardly a problem."

He watched the white and teal stallion snicker a bit, wondering what was going through his head. "Yeah, pretty much. I like to think I'm the protector, but Ohanzee probably has me beat for that one. Stern, pretty quiet, just now coming out of his shell. Just waiting to rip some big bad a new mouth."
He smiled. "But I'm not far behind him. Forrest has been coming by lately. That's Yue's dad. Sending Selene all in a tizzy. She can't stand him, but he's brought Chun a couple times, and every mother wants to see her shildren."

Safi could understand at least the last bit of what Duo was saying. Selene had told him more than once how she missed seeing her son...and how she hated the father. And the act. And other pertinant details. Idly, he wondered if Forrest hung around during those meetings, and if he got his own time to meet with the kids, if the kids got along with the other parent, or each other...complicated.
Though from the sound of it, Selene's herd was pretty accomodating when it came to the father of her children, which was nice. "It's good of you all to help out with Selly, indeed it is. Regardless of who's the actual 'boss man'." If that was a phrase that made any sense. In his herd, they all wandered...and the toughest one of them all was probably Ladius!

Duo smiled. "How could we not? Those of us who stay, we stay because we like each other. For the most part. But every family has their kinks. Like Leney likes being nib... heh." he gave Safi a shameless grin. "And Feryal likes to hum herself to sleep. And I like to be flopped on." he winked at the other stallion.

Safi supposed that it could be said that his herd was the way it was because of mutual like as well, even if all the members were never around a few actively hated each other. It must be kinda nice to have a constant herd...but then, he had no regrets about his life. Wandering suited him, after all.
He found a brow rising at Duo's comment about Selene, but managed to pass it off with a grin. "Selly might have wanted it otherwise, but that's something that we never got around to attempting for obvious reasons. And if you liked being flopped on, you should have said something!"
He'd almost forgotten the incident that had so riled him up, almost forgotten until Duo had mentioned it again. Then he had to close his eyes sharply in an attempt to block out the memories that had returned with that reminder, like the memory of how Duo's leg had felt rubbing against his...

He rolled onto his belly, stretching himself. "I dunno, she might have wanted it otherwise, but never let it be said she gives up easily. She sees you looking at a mare the wrong way, and she'll be looking for an explanation." Duo grinned. "She's so... odd... sometimes it's almost frightening." he shuddered. "It's scary when you see her charging at you, yelling something absolutely incomprehensible, brandishing that horn towards places on your body you don't want horned, if you understand. No clue what you do, but you're in the air and half a mile from the camp before you dare look back."
As for the rest... "Well, I just did." he teased. "But I don't see anyone light enough around here to flop on me and not take my breath away."

Duo's earlier comment brough a snort out of Safi. As if he'd ever look at mares the wrong way; he'd been TRYING to look at mares that way for as long as he'd been an adult with no success, culmunating in having Selene, quite possibly the most gorgeous mare in existance, desiring him and him turning her down? And then thinking he'd bee looking about elsewhere? Not likely.
"Well, I think that I'll be safe on that score. Selly would probably only get grouchy with me if I stole a sexy male from her, but in that case I think I'd be safe...for the obvious reasons. And that's simply unkind, by the way."
The 'unkind' statement was in reference to Duo's second statement, the one about flopping and breath. Safi wasn't used to this kind of banter, nor was he used to feeling like this, so the humor of the situation was lost on him. Especially at the moment.

Duo took everything as it came. He hadn't meant to insult the other stallion, and the realization he might have-had- brought him up short. A little teasing in the view of the situation... well, he'd not thought that through, it looked like.
Well damn.
He smiled weakly. "Sorry. I thought you were teasing me, so I teased back."

"Well, yes and no." Grinning ruefully, Safi rubbed the back of his neck with a wing; he'd been partly joking about his cruel comment, but partly serious all the same. This was a new situation, after all, and while he'd flirted with a few mares in his time, that had all been in jest on the part of both. So he couldn't exactly tell what was serious, what was teasing, and what was flirting, or if there even was any flirting...and now he was confusing himself by overthinking the situation.
"Let me rephrase. I was sort of teasing, but sorta not teasing, and I haven't been in this sort of situation to know the difference and am consequently prone to confusion. Sorry..."

Duo raised a brow as Safi rubbed the back of his neck. That wing of his was incredibly dextrous. He shifted, rather understanding what the other stallion was saying. "I'm... not used to physical affection of that sort." he muttered. "So it's probably a good think you're sitting away, you know? Or I'd be freaking out right now. It's... light conversation, teasing." he shrugged, not sure he made any sense. "I think we're both a bit confusion prone right now." Duo probably less then Safi, since, well... he at least kew he could find a stallion attractive. Had accepted it with that stallion before... and had come to terms on one level when he'd first discovered it. It hadn't come in a bolt of lightning, it had felt wrong and right, and so he'd shuffled the feeling back and pressed it down. But at least he'd known it was there. It was possible.
But before this he'd never known another stallion felt the same way as himself. Well, in regards to other stallions. That was the source of his discomfort. He could hide his own attraction to others, but no one had expressed interest in himself the way Safi had. It was... scary. Intriguing. Addictive.
But he didn't like the discomfort they were feeling right now, the confusion. He'd rather be friends with Safi than be cautious and awkward around a stallion he was likely to see more of, due to Selene and Yue's connection with him.
