We did play Jupiter at our last concert of the year, with the band and everything. It was really nifty. Our orchestra director is too lazy to buy new scores, though, and he didn't think the band could play the origional, so he just photocopied certain parts of the origional and literally taped them over the violinists' scores. rolleyes Hoorah for the low budget orchestra teacher.

Ju Ju Be We just finished a concert series this weekend in our symphony. We performed Stravinsky's Firebird Suite, Espana by Chabrier, Intro to Rondo and Cappricioso by Saint-Saens, and premiered an organ concerto written because our ruffatti organ was finally completed! In Baroque Ensemble we're playing the Messiah (but not the conventional way -- we're doing it in actualy baroque style whee ), and in chamber orchestra we're playing a piece by Mendohlsen. Both concerts are in Dec. sometime. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wow! That's very cool! We also played the Firebird suite and Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso!!!! That are very cool peaces!!!

The National Symphony for the United States played the Overture for Candide when they played a free concert for Las Vegas kids. That was one of the few pieces I enjoyed that they played; for the most part they played simple, trite pieces that would keep kids interest by being peppy and stuff. Everyone enjoyed it, except the 50 LVA kids, who wanted Vagner and Prokofiev and other such things. xd
I didn't really like the book Candide; it was depressing and not all that funny after the first couple of chapters. Maybe I just don't like Voltaire. I dunno. But I enjoyed the Overture... maybe I'll have to go see the play.

Hm, what are we doing . . . Oh, yes! We played the Bachanalle from Samson and Delilah. Uh, we're playing the Christmas concerto by Torelli . . . I dunno, really nothing outstanding. Our second voilins suck, anyway. But in my youth orchestra, we've got some Mendelssohn going. It's not too bad, in fact. It's better than Elgar, but that's probably not saying much. neutral Don't mind the picture. I've got a green and blue mowhawk, now.

Umm.. actually, I hate the songs we're playing for our Christmas concert. We're capable of much more challenging {and fun!} pieces. We're doing 2 extremely cheesy Christmas medleys {Christmas Festival & Christmas Music for Orchestra} and some arrangement of Greensleeves. We were doing "Variations on a Shaker Melody" but that got canned today for some reason. I guess the woodwinds and brass don't have time to prepare for it, since they only have one rehearsal with us. Ugh.. I don't really like Christmas music anyway, but geez; there's more interesting music out there! One medley would try my patience, but two just pushes me over the edge. gonk

We told our teacher that we would kill him if he made us play a medley. We are, however, playing the Dreydel song. The first violins are only submitting because we have a sixteenth note - only part that sounds hard, though it isn't really, and we had to audition to be first.
Other than that, we're playing "A Kansas Caper", which is LAME, and Sarabonde from the Holberg Suite by Greig. That one we are dedicating to Mrs. Jackson.
I want to get into the top orchestra so badly... they're playing REAL music, not the crap we're playing now. evil I get to move at semester... but until then I'm stuck.

The sad thing is, I AM in the top orchestra at our school. It's not as good as it was last year, simply because we're being slowed down this year by the deadweight in the back of the orchestra who are only in there because they're seniors, or because the lower orchestra was full and they'd whined enough last year about being in the lower orchestra {we have enough kids to have 3 or 4 orchestras, but only have 2, so we have 70+ in both orchestras, before we even add the band kids for full orchestra}, but even with that problem, we're still quite good. We play challenging and exciting and fun or beautiful pieces for every concert, except for the holiday concert. It's the same every freakin' year. Plus, he recycles the christmas music ever 3 years, so the seniors played these medleys and whatnot during their freshman year. And next year, I'll get to play the stupid songs I played in my freshman year. -____-

I am very sorry... I think I like my problem better; I'm on the cusp of getting into the top orchestra, which is the problem, but the top orchestra wins everything it touches. The musicians are like gods that descend upon Midwest conventions and other such things across the country and effortlessly emerge victorious. Not quite like that, actually... but my problem is not being good enough for them, rather than the other way around.
Our lowest orchestra, which I was in freshman year, has more juniors and seniors than it does freshmen, and more than the top orchestra. There are so many juniors here... I barely escaped from that quagmire. It's so sad; you get put into the bottom, and just stay there, because the one remaining orchestra teacher has to devote all his energy to the upper orchestras. Not that they helped the bottom when there were two teachers...

For our X-Mas concert, we're playing a Charlie Brown Medley, Torelli Chirstmas Concerto, and Winter Wonderland . . . Oh! And a Chanukah piece with several Hebrew melodies. Guess it's a pretty decent concert playlist . . . long as the second keep away from the damn sharps. stare
