Luke's shaking gets stronger. All at once, he lets out a loud, blood boiling scream, his eyes now glowing a rather bright red. His hands burst into flames up to the elbow. That stare had triggered something he obviously wasn't ready for...

Raizer looked at Emmia and nodded "I'm fine, but the spike in fire magick must have triggered his magick only he doesn't know how to control it" though Raizer's eyes were also red from the immense amount of fire magick around he was forcing his to stay under control.

He turned back to look at the others "I don't suppose anyone around here controls water magick?" he asked worry in tone knowing that they needed to calm his fever. He turned back to Emmia looking at her closely to make sure this wasn't triggering her magick again, when he was satisfied she was ok he turned back to look at Luke whatever just happened Emmia will tell us if she needs to in her own time.

Marael closed her eyes and stared around the forest thoughtfully, her mind wandering absently. She was drawn partially out of her own personal bubble by a spike of magic from Lae and Emmia's direction, and she looked over at the pair curiously.

When Luke collapsed into Emmia's terrified arms, Marael gave a swift curse, feeling the boy's magic spiking all over the small clearing. She was already moving towards the pair as Luke screamed, his hands bursting into flames. She skidded to a kneel before the pair of them, and swore again. It had been a long time since she'd calmed someone's magic. She closed her eyes, looking for a water source nearby to draw her power from. After a brief moment, she found a small pool several yards away from the clearing. It would have to do.

With a few muttered phrases, Marael's hands were suddenly surrounded by a bubble of water of the brightest blue imaginable. She drew all the water out of the pool and concentrated it in her hands.

"Luke. LUKE." She said sharply. "Luke, look at me." Luke, out of instinct at hearing his name spoken, looked at Marael, not really seeing her. She locked eyes with him then reached out and grabbed his hands, feeling an electric shock that nearly made her cry out in pain as the fire and water quenched each other in a matter of seconds. Marael held on as Luke instinctively and unconsiously sucked her cooling magic into his overheated system. She kept his glowing red eyes locked by her calm blue ones as she drew on as much power as she dared, letting Luke heal himself.

That was the danger of magic and those who taught it. When someone learned control, not only was there need for a teacher, but there had to be a person of the opposite kind to stand by as a focus as well. The stronger the pupil, the stronger need for a focus. Marael hadn't served as a focus for decades, and she was having trouble finding water to draw upon for her magic after a little while. The grass around her knees shriveled up as she sucked out the water in it, as did the pool yonder.

Finally, Marael let go of Luke, whose eyes were nearly back to their original color, with only a hint of red left in them. He had stopped shaking, but still burned with a fever. Marael straightened, also shaking slightly, although her skin was cool and almost moist to the touch. She leaned against a nearby tree, her energy nearly drained.

"When it comes to teaching, I do believe I am slightly out of practice." She said with a heavy sigh. "But he should be stable, at least."

((Sorry I haven't posted lately...things have been crazy here, and I went on a road trip with friends this weekend to cool off. I totally just got back, and looks like I missed a lot!))

((welcome back))

Luke's eyes look up into Marael's and just simply dim a bit a glaze over, his body going limp.

((I may be gone a little while...))

Rylee was jolted out of her thoughts at the sound of the scream. She looked over to the fallen boy and felt embarrassed. This was definitely not the time to be catching up. She admonished herself and turned her full attention on the goings on of the other elves and students.

Rylee watched in facination as one of the elves acted as a focus for the boy. There had only been a few times she had ever seen this done and felt slightly envious of the fallen male. She hadn't had a chance to use a focus to learn how to control her magic. In the eyes of the elves, she would have been too old to have attended lessons, it would have been suspicious for her to ask for instruction despite her young years . So as she gazed at the intricate waves of colour that pulled the water from the pool and ground and doused the flaming male, she felt amazed at the level of complexity and interaction between the focus and the student.

She focussed on the fluctuation of the waves and their mirad of colours, feeling bedazzled by them. The elf was radiating waves coloured all imaginable hues of blue which moved fluidly with strength and beauty. Luke, if she had heard the name correctly, was emmiting different yet equally stunning waves the colour crimson and cherry and all shades inbetween. His waves, however, were more sporadic and random, much more like the fire that had been licking up his arms.

She looked around quickly, wondering if anyone else saw this.

Over the last two years she had managed to observe how others went about learning to control their powers and was able to teach herself the meager basics of maintaining a hold on her gift so as not to burst into flames at any given time.

Because that would have been bad.

She grimaced lightly, deciding not to dwell on that unpleasent thought and hesitantly moved forward to kneel beside Luke. She could still feel the excess heat emminating from her body and held her hand above him. With was control she had, she allowed cold blue flames to dance around her fingertips, sucking in the plethora of heat surrounding the fallen male and disspersing it into the surrounding vegetation. Rylee hoped that with a little less heat, Luke would feel more comfortable.

She let the flames die away and stumbled to her feet shakily, she wasn't used to using her power for with her control being so poor, any more time and she probably would have gone up in flames as well.

Looking up she spotted the elves closest to Luke and flushed, wondering slightly if she was just getting in the way.

"Sorry," she mumbled, rubbing the back of her neck and taking a step back towards Terra and Haylin.

((ACK! Sorry I haven't posted in a while *smacks self* school and illness have taken up most of my brain and energy, leaving me an icky husk of mucus and head colds with lots of himework to catch up on. So sorry again.))

Emmia felt dumb-founded as she simply sat there on her knees. Only contributing to the problem at hand by holding the poor boy still in her arms. The heat she could take, and honestly she was used to it by now. Fire did nothing for her, save the static rush of adrenaline that cut through her at the very sight of a spark. Emmia was passion personified and what better sorcery element could be ever so perfectly equivalent but that of the flame magick.

But, now she was helpless.
Sure, there had been times when her power had destroyed acres upon acres. Here, however, with a boy being plagued by that same intoxicating force, she could do nothing but try and yeild herself from letting her own flame run rampant. This and the fact that his pain was her doing (or at least that was what she had now convinced herself had happened) simply killed her with guilt and misplaced anxiety. So of course when Marael had come to a skidding halt at Luke's side, immediately starting to aid him in a way Emmia could not, she did feel a tad bit useless. But still, Luke's condition had worsened and as marael continued to focus him and work through his magick, Emmia watched with wide captivated eyes. She had never seen a focus at work with a student. Or at least not in such formal terms.
Her mother had been the one that had taught her all the things she'd acquired about her magick. It was odd. As Emmia bore witness to Luke and Marael's progress, it was as if she were watching the past repeat itself. Only in her memory, she herself had been the one without control, and her mother had been of water, trying to calm the young Emmia as her frail body was eaten in flames. She blinked, coming back just as the ordeal ended. Luke finally fell limp in her arms, his eyes distant and drooping. She couldn't help but smile at his exhaustion. He'd gotten passed the first trials of his magick lesson in one piece. And, impressively, without managing to burn anyone alive.

Terra was overtaken with fear as she watched Luke in such terrible pain. She too felt useless as she sat on the sidelines, far enough away to not interfere with Marael's attempt to tame Luke's raw power. She was still only a foot away, but once the ear-piercing scream had erupted from Luke's mouth, she was afraid to move any closer.
However fearful she might have been, it was still amazing to watch as the beautiful aray of colors danced before her eyes.
Was this the future of all of them? Were they all going to... explode in power like that? Terra looked down at her own hands, letting her mind wander to what coul happen. But then she shook her head, dispelling the disturbing thoughts. When Luke seemed to stabilize, she edged closer, hovering at his side and exchanging worried glances with the rest of the group.
It was then that Rylee stepped forward and put in her part, stripping the air of the intense heat in harbored. Not only did it seem to diminish Luke's fever, but it noticably lightened the tension in the atmosphere. Seeing that Rylee seemed to be thinking less of her help, Terra made to ease her mind.
"No, Rylee, no need to apoligize..." Terra said reassuringly as she grinned at her dear friend. She pressed her hand lightly to Luke's forehead again. "...I think his fever is definetly breaking now."

Emmia nodded in agreement, still looking down at Luke as if expecting him to caught fire again. She didn't want to take any chances. He was new at this, and she knew how hard it was to manage new found magick.

Luke's body tenses up and his eyes bolt open and look straight into the sky. The deep brown from before is replaced with swirls of dark and bright firey red...
In an instant, his body goes limp again and his eyes shut...

To change yourself means

((Well, dun know about everyone else, but I'm back alive from the dead. x.x I sorta scanned everything, and Valerye wasn't in any of the action, so....))

Valerye was too shocked by the quick events that went on to completely register any of it. She breathed in deeply and ran everything through again. Rylee - a girl that went missing awhile ago - was 'found.' Emmia was unwell because of her magic, and then Luke had gone into some sort of convulsion and fainted. She slightly winced at her wording. Fainting was no way to put it, and it wasn't Emmia's fault, whatever it was.
But regardless of what she thought, Valerye felt stupid just standing there as people rushed to help Luke, and again as she stood, doing nothing, as she went over her own thoughts. How inconsiderate she must look. But who wouldn't be stopped in their tracks if you had lived in a world where magic did not exist and then someone - a classmate you knew, if only a little - combusts at the elbows down by their 'own' accord? It didn't change the fact that Valerye felt that she should be doing something. But what could she do? She looked down at her hands. She couldn't work magic - not yet, if ever - like the elves could.
Valerye sighed and walked over to the ring of people around Luke. "Is he all right?" She bit back the other question that was on the tip of her tongue. 'What happened?'

Luke now appears to be simply in a sound sleep. Only real difference is his abnormally high body heat...
PostPosted: Fri Nov 30, 2007 5:42 pm

Marael gave a sigh. "He'll be fine. He just needs to sleep it off." She straightened and stretched, her arms feeling sore and stiff from the amount of energy used to cast magic. But at the same time, she felt alive and awake--more so than she had since leaving Wisitia. She hadn't realized how good it felt to have the water magic running through her, and how much she missed it.

That's when she caught sight of Valerye looking down at her hands rather worriedly and realized with a small start that while the elves weren't terribly surprised by the explosion of power from Luke, the humans must be terrified.

"It's nothing." She assured them. "Just a spike in magic..." her eyes lingered over Emmia's for a brief moment before continuing. "This reaction is...surprising, but not uncommon. Magic tends to be finicky in the early stages. It is nothing to worry about." She gave Valerye a smile that was slightly tired but also sympathetic. "I do not expect you all to burst into flames if that is what is troubling you."

To change yourself means

"No, I wasn't worried about that..." Valerye said, meeting Marael's eyes. She sighed. "Just... How many of us have magic, if we have it at all?" she bit her lip as she rushed through the question. It was a question she had been dying to ask. It was obvious that Luke had it, after all, he had just recently created fire without a lighter or anything. She had watched how the elves used their magic with a sort of ease. Looking back at the ground, she wondered what her own two hands could do.

Raizer finally satisfied that no one else was going to erupt in flames stood up and walked over to the others, he noticed on of the humans talking about the possibilities of magick "almost everything here has atleast a small amount of magick and if one of you has magick then I would guess you all do, it just depends what type you all have" he said as looked at each of the humans in turn.

Marael nodded in agreement.

"Everyone present in this clearing has some magic potential, all of different types. I am...not the best at telling who can do what. It is based on your personality traits and occasionally your heritage. I control water magic, because my mother did, and because of my heritage. Ichnel, I would imagine, gets his affinity from his gentle personality, as I have not heard of many Shalondians with Earth magic." She nodded to the dark elf. "It is all realitive. I cannot tell you what you can do. If you stop to think about it, you find you just know." Marael shrugged. There was a little bit more to it, but that was the simplest way she could explain it.
