No, im gonna be right here, telling you where to go. Patches began explaining the turning of the wheel and the degrees for a compass so that she would get down the headings, it wouldn't be long before she had all this down.

Rin was really excited to be learning all of this, paying attention to everything, and making sure to work hard.

Alric was now ready and headed out to the deck...he didn't think he would have to do anything but he was willing to if he needed to. Seeing Rin up by the wheel he remained down on the deck watching the interaction between patches and rin.
"thats good rin...now i want you to turn to 10 degrees north of northwest"
Watching her turn to the exact heading patches smiled.
"excellent, now i will show you the map so you can plot out a coarse"
Patches grabbed the map and set it on the table next to the wheel. Then taking the wheel from her he ha her look at the map...giving her their starting position and where they wanted to go.

Doing her best, she made up a traveling plan, taking into account everything he had told her, and looking up to see his approval. She really enjoyed doing this, feeling useful.

"alright now your duty for the rest of the day is to keep o your course. There are markers all along the way where you can check your location and make adjustments....because it will happen, even tom and i have to make adjustments....."
Alric liked seeing Rin enjoying herself. She really had felt like a burden and this would help her feel better about her situation.

Nodding, Rin thanked Patches, before beginning to work hard. She had to, as Patches said, make a couple of adjustments, but she worked hard to keep them on course, watching their surroundings, and checking the map and compass often.

Patches stayed close the entire time. He was amazed at how well she did with this being her first time navigating or stearing. He complimented on her efforts and on her adjustments.
"this will be part of what you do for me while your on the ship. The other consists of errands that i do not have the time to accomplish"
Now Alric was feeling useless, he was just sitting on the lower deck taking up space. He decided to help out around the deck, pulling roaps , cutting the trim on the sailes and other necessary sailor things.

She meant it; it felt nice knowing you were needed. For once, she was not a burden, but an equal, and she loved it.

Patches allowed herto navigate and stear for most of the trip. He wanted her to get acustomed to long hours at the wheel. he stayed close however giving her pointers on how to best accomplish her tasks.
Alric continued his work on the boat. He made quick work of it all, never allowing for it to look like he was putting out to much effort.

Rin worked her hardest, until she was tired... but didn't say anything, continuing to work.

As the evening began to come on he could tell the concentration was taking its tole on Rin.
"I think that will be good for today....go take a break and grab some food"
Taking the wheel from her, he nodded to her.
"good job today"
