I think the thing with avatars is you can never win, no matter what your avatar design is, someone is going to be unhappy with it and when you change your avatar people get even more unhappy with it.
Your new avatar grows on you, though. At first I was like "Ack!" Now, I am kind of sort of liking it... -shrug- Your new avatar is like coffee: one adapts to it.
