I checked the codex and it didn't say anything. Some of their "example" bugs even had both.

Yeah. On page 46 the thornback carnifex varient has both upgrades and I couldn't find anything that said both weren't allowed.

I beleive the "frying delicate sensory bits" is a bit of fluff that specifically applies only to the Zoanthropes, which are essentially big floating brains with some teeth and tails. I'm fairly certain that you can't give them enhanced senses, which kind of sucks for you, because Warp Blast is probably the best shooting attack the Tyranids have, and you only get a 50/50 chance at connecting with it after making the psychic test.

I collect tyranids... i have an army that's too big to count, and enough guys that will never be deployed - ever.
I painted them with a nice white undercoat, and went the easy-aint route and use ink washes for colouring their skin (green). Btw.. what the hell is up with no GREEn ink, there's only dark green now??
Anyway... i like them ^_^
.....tru story
<_<
>_>

but the Zoanthropes (if i understood wht you're talking about) are fixed, so you can't modify them at all...

Sure you can modify them. It's just that all or most of thier customisability comes from what psychic powers you give them, rather than biomorphs.

So this thread WAS here! Anyhoo, my opinion is that I love the green stuff and have used it before, it's very easily sculpted and I plan to use it heavily once I've got my first 'nid. Also, what's a better idea, starting out with my beasty carnifex, the 'nid army boxed set, or a brood of gaunts?

That makes some sense, thanks.

On a different note, I played a game of 40k this weekend
My army:6 warriors, 26 gaunts, 16 hormagaunts carnifex, hive tyrant
His army:10 thousand sons, 2 aspiring champion sorcerers, sorcerer lord, 10 flamers, defiler, predator.

Almost all my units were massacred at range, the warriors and carnifex dying before they reached combat. The few remaining gaunts nailed the flamers at the middle of the bord and were also slain afterwards. The true champion was my tyrant, who reached one unit of thousand sons, killed the hero and the remaining sorcerer, tghe defiler charged and I killed that too, and followed up to the other unit of thousand sons. I killed them and then destroyed the predator with a hit from the tyrant' venom cannon.

I just got my first Carnifex today, and I plan to mod it something fierce. I think I'll make my melle 'nid's torso first, coz I'll need another set of crushing claws. Anyhoo, I plan to add using the modeling apoxy putty(Green stuff) bonded exoskeleton, extended carapace, reinforced chitin, tusks and whatever'll make the other guys bleed. I'm going to use the extended carapace from a gaunt sprue for my 'fex. I'm just assembling it right now. I'm starting with bio-plasma and mace tail. Anyone have any good ideas for other 'nid biomorphs that make other guys bleed?
