Ling sighed and lowered him self to the ground, dawn would come soon enough and he needed to sleep. He dismissed Shaitani with the flick of a paw, and moved his body slightly to be nuzzle up gainst Xia. He would sleep and the morning would come.

((I'm going to move the time ahead to the next morning dear, if you all don't mind, I think this fight needs to get over and done with.))

Shaitani turned from Ling and moved to his corner of the cave, where Kun Yi now lay. He settled down beside her, saying nothing, and closed his eyes to let sleep take him to Hell, where he would soon be if this fight proceeded.

The night drifted to day and eventually the sun rose above the mountains in the distance. The king awoke and yawned, his large teeth bared. He shook his head, the dark hair on his mane filling out as he slowly rose from the cold stone ground. He stretched, letting his muscles wake up. He stepped carefully away from his queen and headed towards the opening of the cave. Nuri should be on watch right now, he would be a comfort before the fight.

Nuri was indeed on watch as expected as he had not slept a wink. Even with the welcome visit from Pastel earlier, he could not shake the tension from his knotted shoulders. Hearing the stirrings of the king in the early dawn, he rose to his feet and stretched, working the kinks out of his muscles. Perhaps the sun would help... He turned as Ling approached and whispered a soft greeting under his whiskers and bowed his head reverently. Today of all days required a lion to perform every act of politeness and respect due - no matter how small, no matter how silly it might seem among friends. After all, as he rose his head, Nuri's grin and soft eyes were the same friendly ones that greeted Ling every other day.

((an rpg tidbit that was done over AIM))

The sleep that Kun Yi had managed to get was sparse and fleeting. Any sound of movement, a shifting cub or a sigh would jolt her from her sleep. Her mind kept going over Xia and Ling's words, driving splinters deeper into a tender heart. Shaitanis' presence wasn't of much help, she was agitated about the upcoming fight. It was only two hours later that she heard a body move and caught sight of the King moving to the entrance. Before she could stop herself the dragon lioness was following.

Ling sat near the enterance of the cave, watching the sun rise higher in the sky. He sighed and turned when he heard someone moving in the cave. Seeing Kun Yi come his way he nodded and rested his head on his paws.

The red and black lion paused when the King looked at her. "L...Ling? May I talk to you?" She glanced back at the occupied cave and Nuri's form. "In private?"

Ling sighed and nodded. "Of course, if that is what you want.." He rose from the ground and moved from the cave. Once out, he waited for Kun Yi to lead him away.

The feline lead the King to her favorite place in the Oasis: a small clearing that afforded a beautiful view of the stars. She sat in the middle, amethyst eyes being drawn upwards. The stars soothed her mind a for a bit. Words were in her mind but she couldn't say them. The dragon lioness wasn't good with words, she was better at expressing herself physically.

Ling followedher to the clearin, his mind drifting to the fight that would be coming not long from now. He sighed and at on the grass, his eyes turned skyward. "I have to admit...I'm abit nervous..."

"So am I." She pulled her eyes down, centering them on the grass instead of anything or anyone. She couldn't keep up the facade she was so used to wearing. While others might see a harsh, cold and rude lioness, inside she still was just a child. Protecting her sister had forced her to grow up too fast. Emotions, trust, they were strange to her.

"You do not have to pretend to be hard around me Kun Yi" He pawed at the grass abit and sighed. "Truely, I do not expect anyone in my pride to be so serious or strong around me, Speak you mind, I will listen."

"I..." She pawed at the ground, disturbing the grass and rich soil. "Used to and am still used to...protecting myself and my sister. I just...can't let myself be protected or provided for."

"That much I have noticed, but..." He trailed off turing his head to look at her. "It is not such a bad thing to be a part of a family...or...to be cared for. After all, Shaitani cares for you Kun Yi...you do not seem to have a problem with him protecting you."

"It...it feels different. He doesn't judge me or try to..." She choked on the next few words, anger faintly there. "Try to put me in my place. He respects me and I...love him all the more for it."

"I try hard not to judge you Kun Yi, but, you have hated me since you first came to my pride. I tried to give you a home, a family, but you simply tried to stay away...I want you to be happy here, I want you to feel loved...that is my honest truth to you, and I mean it fro mthe bottom of my heart. " The panda lion smiled at her, his dark mane framing that sincere smile on his lips.

Kun Yi glanced at the King and then to the hidden horizon. The rising sun was painting the sky a multitude of colors. Her stars faded from the sky, making way for day. "I'm not comfortable here, I stayed because Xiao was happy in your Pride." The teen turned to face the King, tail wrapped around her legs. "The oasis...it is beautiful but it isn't home."

"that much I can understand...but do you see the place you've put me in Kun Yi? I have spken of being a strong king, I cannot let you leave without a fight...it's...it shows weakness. I respect your love and I respect Shaitani and you, but...the things that have happened...they put alot of pressure on me."

The lioness stayed quiet, searching for anything, something to say. She could only bow her head. There was nothing to say. Was she feeling guilty? Maybe a bit.

"Talk to me Kun Yi. I don't want ot Fight Shaitani...I don't want ot hurt anyone...but I have to. I have to fight to protect my pride, to shoe them that I am a strong king, a powerful king." He sighed, he was young, so very young, and now, at this exct moment he showed it.

"I don't know what to say..." Her gaze was dropped back down to her paws, where it seemed to be most of the time. "I don't want Shaitani to fight...The one chance to not fight has already been destroyed."

"it has been...but, you can save him from a fight that could result in death or severe injury...I respect him greatly...If I know this is just a fight for you to leave, I will fight as though I were not angered..." He sighed. "Things...are difficult..."

"He respects you, he doesn't want to fight you." The lioness stated. "How am I to save him? I could fight for my own release, but I have a feeling it will not happen."

"I do not think that Shaitani would let you fight me...In fact I can almost guarentee it." He nodded and looked at the sky, it wa a lovely day, too lovely.

"No he won't..." Her head hurt, the lack of sleep catching up. "I...don't have anything else to say..."

"Perhaps...if you speak to Shaitani, tell him this is the only other option, he would understand." He sighed.

The lioness didn't think that her mate would agree but she only nodded her head. Without a sound she turned back to the cave, amethyst eyes on the ground. She sought out her mate and curled up next to him.

He felt a warm body return to his side, waking him from an uneasy slumber. Opening weary eyes, he realized it was Kun Yi. Idlely, he wondered why she had gotten up so early, "Kun Yi..." somehting was torubleing her - he could sense it... "Is something wrong?" His mind jolted him, reminding him that he would have to fight Ling today. He shifted so his head was elevated from the ground, but his body was still against it.

She didn't look her mate, instead opting to stare at the wall. "I could fight Ling."
PostPosted: Sun Apr 09, 2006 10:20 pm

His body tensed at the words, head whipping to her form in the dark. A rumble was emitted from his throat absently. It was not of anger, but more of protection, perhaps? He wasn't sure, but something had caused it to escape. shaking his head slightly, letting his mane fall into place, he stayed silent, unsure how to respond to her words.

After staying still a long while, he rose, shaking his body out and loosening his muscles, "I cannot allow that - you could get killed. If that were to happen, I could never forgive myself." His tone was not calm, nor was it chaotic. It was not angry, sad, happy, or protective. It was not absent of emotion, yet it showed none. It was a melting pot of every feeling possible, yet did not sound awkward as the words fell form his mouth.

He sighed, moving toward the entrance of the cave, "I will fight him, Kun Yi. It is our fate. and as such, I trust my outcome on fate as well... For it seems that this entire situation was predetermined. We could do nothing to change it's path." He let a small smile come to his lips, eyes soft, "I've never believed in fate... But... This time, I believe in it wihtout a doubt in my mind."

He had flashed back to the night Ling and he had sat on the rocks, observing the stars. Shaitani had threatened to challenge the king for his lands. It had been an empty threat, seeing how Shaitani was still just a kitten. Now, though, he wondered if it was empty. He was fighting Ling so long after that challenge... Fate had led him here, and he was not about to defy what the Gods wanted of him.

A small moan left the dragon's mouth. She didn't want Shaitani hurt, she didn't want him to fight. Yi was worried and concerned. If he was hurt, she would never forgive herself. If he died, she would follow soon after.

The red head dipped to the cold stone, seeking it to cool the ache in her head. She sent a prayer to every lions god or goddess she could think of. Please, just please let Shaitani come out alive.

Shaitani now approached Ling, heart sent out to the heavens, but head still in the game ((sorry for the high school musical reference :rofl)). He needed to win this fight for Kun Yi. "Ling..." His voice was quiet, determined not to disturb the other lions around, especially not the cubs. They had no need to be witness to this - they were still far too young.

Ling returned to the cave, his heart heavy, but still alert. He looked to the other male as he called out to him. Kun Yi had spoken to him, he could tell that, the male still seemed determined to fight him. "So, this is what it all comes down to....hmm?" He moved back out of the cave, his eyes constantly on The adult male. He would not back down, he would fight and he would try and win at all cost.

Shaitani followed his king, "I'm afraid so. I'm sure you can understand why I could not let her fight you." His voice was absolute.

He stood tall, matching the height of Ling now. His body was well-formed, and with the early sunlight reflecting off of his dark fur, he looked almost majestic against the backdrop.

It was with a sullen mind that he mentally prepared himself for the fight that could possibly crush his future with Kun Yi.

"Ling, understand that I am doing this because I have to. I have nothing against you or your pride, and if this were at all avoidable, I would wish not to hurt you in any way. However, fate has led us to this point. It seems my threat as a kitten was not as empty as it seemed..."

"I knew this day would come, Shaitani...I could tell...from the moment I met you that you would be a rival and a friend..." He moved far enough away from the cave, so that the others would be safe, before turning to face the other male. "It is time Shaitani...unfortunatly for us...we will both fight till the first one falls and can no longer stand..." He sighed, crouching down, ready to begin.

Shaitani nodded, but now kept silent. His instincts were beginning to take charge as he saw the male crouch across from him. He followed suit, stomach caressing the top of the grass. Every muscle in his body was tense, ready to strike at any moment, following his instincts' orders instead of his own conscience's.

The King kept perfectly still, his muscles tense, ready to attacka t the slightest of movements. His dar keyes were forcused on Shaitani, if the youth made one mistake the king would find it, and it would be over quickly.
