"Then lets go." He pranced over to Markus and wrapped both arms around his with a huge grin. teddy was very, very infatuated with Markus. It made him giddy and excited just to be this close to him. It was no wonder he kept finding himself thinking so seriously so soon. When you were in that deep, it was hard to remember that you really hardly knew someone at all.

I grinned at Teddy as he clung to my side and opened the door, walking out with him practically attached to me. And I didn't mind at all. "Whose car?" I asked him. "Yours or mine?" Truthfully, I was hoping he would say his. Mine hadn't been used in a couple weeks. It was hard to believe I hadn't left the District for so long... But I didn't want to use my car if it had been out of commission for so long. It was old as it was, and I didn't want to break down with Teddy in the car.

"Mine is right here, but you'll have to tell me where I'm going. I don't really know the area that well at all." Teddy let go of Markus to dig out his keys, unlock the vehicle and slip into the driver's seat. He buckled his seat belt and looked toward Markus. "You too, mister. I don't care how practically invulnerable you are; this bird don't fly until everybody's buckled in." Everyone had their own set of car rules; this was one of Teddy's. He worried too much if he knew someone hadn't buckled up and that distracted him from the road.

I sighed and, with a smirk, decided to humor him. I pulled the seatbelt across my body and clicked it into place. "Right," I said. "Just turn around, and I'll give you directions from there."
((Lalalala, drivinggggg. I suppose we can skip that part? razz ))
Fifteen minutes later, we sat in the orange neon glow of letters that spelt out Burnt Offerings. I unbuckled the seatbelt and climbed out of the car, walking over to the driver's side and opening the door for Teddy. Call me old fashioned.

"Burnt Offerings? Are you kidding me?" Teddy couldn't help but laugh and shake his head as he unbuckled and stepped out of the vehicle. Well, who cared what the place was called; what was inside was much more important. Teddy was feeling a little lightheaded and was glad they had not gone very far. Maybe they should have taken Markus' car. He leaned a little heavily against Markus, but honestly that wasn't all that unlike how he had been acting with Markus previously. "Burnt Offerings it is. Hee. Have you been here before?"

I hooked an arm around Teddy's shoulder and nodded. "A couple times. I prefer to stay in the District. Less of a chance of running into the crazies." I opened the bar's door and ushered Teddy inside, over to the counter. I sat on a stool and indicated for Teddy to do the same. Sure, the District had its fair share of bars, but this was a favorite of mine, regardless of the fact that I did not come here that often. I liked the plainness, the calm of it. There was really nothing exciting. Old movie posters decorated one wall, and that was about the extent, aside from the interspersed tables and chairs. It was quiet; must be a weeknight. The sudden realization that I had no idea what day it was disoriented me more than it should have. I'd lost time before; why did it bug me so much now?

"Yeah, that makes sense. Well, I know where you stay, so it's not like you'll have to come out all that often on my account." The last part Teddy said a bit quietly, made nervous by Markus' comment. He would hate for any of the aforementioned crazies to find him and demand information. teddy knew the kind of people Markus meant. His parents had friends who were honest to god, card holding members of Humans Against Vampires and The League of Human Voters. They pretended to be on the fence themselves, but who they kept company with proved otherwise. Maybe Teddy should invest in some nice turtleneck shirts.

I smiled at Teddy and ordered myself a simple martini. I'd probably get something a little more tasty as the night wore on. I spared a glance at the clock on the wall. It was late night; we had plenty of hours to talk. "So," I said. "What exactly were you doing in the District that first night?" Anything to start up conversation. We'd do a little Q&A, then a little S&M... Okay, that's a lie.

Teddy ordered a Coke and some good old typical bar food. Hot wings and potato skins; arteries, here they come. He sipped the soda as he waited for the food. "I'd come with my friends, during the day. It's pretty dea-" Teddy blushed and quickly rephrased. "It's pretty quiet here with the sun up, but we were just goofing off and trying to scare the crap out of each other anyway. I guess they all thought it would be funny to drive off without me. They planned it ahead of time and everything." After Teddy had woken up enough to rant at Dean, he'd gotten the whole explanation. No apology, though there was a lot of one sided laughter. What had he ever seen in that guy? Well, he was still a good looking jerk. Teddy hoped he wasn't blushing again; he really didn't want to tell why. "They were supposed to stick with me and get me home before sundown. Dean swears they came to find me not long after, but 'not long after' seems to have a different definition for him."

I raised an eyebrow. That was twice he had blushed in the space of a minute. And the way he said the name "Dean" implied something... "Tell me about this Dean," I said, sipping my own drink. "Aside from his jerk-ness." I smiled.

"That's all there is to tell; he's a jerk." Teddy said a little defensively, but quickly caved. What Markus had told him was easily ten times more difficult to talk about than his stupid crush. Teddy sighed heavily. "He's a really good looking jerk. Good looking, my best friend for like fourteen years and totally ruler straight. I was crushing on him for years and I'm still not really sure if he knows or has his suspicions. He never used to be this much of an a**. It's like he wants to push me into dropping him as a friend so he doesn't have to drop me. At least, that's what it feels like to me."

I shrugged and drained my drink. "Maybe he is," I said. "And if he is, what's the point in keeping him around? I mean, if he's as hot as you say he is, we'll get him completely trashed, take him to the hotel room, have our way with him, then dump him out on the street for the trash truck to come and get." I smirked and ordered a Mai Thai this time. "If that's the only reason you're keeping him around, then... well, there's no reason to keep him around." I added in a teasing voice, "Am I not good enough?"

Teddy almost spewed his mouthful of Coke when Markus calmly described a date rape scenario as if he were suggesting they take in a movie. He didn't think Markus was serious, but it still took him by surprise. "He's my friend... and it's not like I just hang out with him hoping I'll get my chance, or something stupid. Dean is straight; very, very, very straight. Like just about everybody I know. I mean, there's really just no comparing him to you." Not to mention Markus was better looking, into guys and actually available. Teddy nibbled at his food once he received it.

Teddy's violent reaction made me laugh. I took the tie out of my hair and shook it out, putting the tie around my wrist, then sipping my drink. "I was joking," I said calmly, transferring my drink to my left hand and laying my right on Teddy's knee. "Relax, love." I winked at him and took another sip.

Teddy smiled sheepishly. "I know, I know. But I don't think I've ever heard anybody just casually joke about using a guy up and tossing him out like that. Would serve him right after that prank... but I can't really stay too mad. I met you and Kit and Sam. I 'got laid'; his words not mine. And for the first time in my life he got to be my cover for being out all night. He was thrilled. I should get him to do it again."
