"He'll get over being angry," Tyleet assured her. "Pack does that. And he's going to come back. You'll see."
Swordfall's feet very nearly grew wings when she heard her son yip in pain. She managed to race past her mother and brother some how, though it was a close enough thing that they all saw him and venka at once.
Nightfall blinked, rapidly. "Venka?" she asked. *Don't shoot!* she sent to Woodshot. *She's a friend. But.... Something is odd.*

Woodshot lowered his bow. *Alright. Though I don't think things are right...doesn't feel right...*
Knifefall nodded, calming. "Ok. Why do you smell like Mommy?"

"We are all Wolfriders," Tyleet explained. "A pack, a family."
Venka stared. she started to open her mouth, thought better of it. *Nightfall* she sent, keeping her sending open, so all who we near could hear her. *Is this one a Wolfrider?*
Nightfall nodded once. "Yes, Venka. He is my cubs' cub."
Venka.... stared more. *Tyleet's cub?* she finally asked, amazed. *But she is a cub herself, like me.*
"Come, back to the holt, both of you. It seems we have much to discuss. Woodshot, would you help Swordfall collect Snowfall?"
"Not going back!" he said.
Swordfall swallowed, then turned and ran back to the holt, back to the cubs who loved her.
Nightfall winced. At least she was running back to the holt. "Woodshot?" she asked softly.

*Snowfall...let's go home. Venka, you are coming too?* Woodshot nodded to his mother, "I will get the cubs."
Knifefall pondered that. *Snowfall! I learned a new word! Pack. We're a pack!*

Knifefall snorted. *Your nose must be broken. Mommy wants us all in the pack. She came after you, didn't she?*
Woodshot hauled the white cub up onto his back. "That's it Snowfall. Let's go home...Want to hold my bow?"

Snowfall was all set to squirm and protest, but the question stopped him. "You'd let me?" he asked, unsure and surprised.
Venka trotted over to Nightfall. "Everything is odd in this new forest, but somethings are the same."
"Yes," Nightfall agreed, nuzzling her lightly.
Venka looked like she had more to say, but kept her mouth shut.

"Yes." Woodshot handed his bow back to the cub. "Be gentle with it." He turned toward Venka, "What is odd in this forest?"

Venka gave him a long look. "You, for one. I don't know you."
"As I said, Much to discuss. Perhaps Cutter is the best one to talk to, Venka."
Venka nodded. "Alright. I should tell him about the Blacksnake anyway."
Nightfall almost stumbled. She turned to stare at Venka. "She's here? The Black Snake? Are you Certain?"
Venka nodded. "I felt her, but she did not feel me. I do not think she is aware of us. She built a new mountain."
"Owl pellets, puckernuts" Nightfall swore. "Woodshot, we are going to RUN."
Venka frowned. Didn't she just tell her the Snake wasn't aware of them?

Nightfall and Venka raced along side him. As soon s they got to the others, Nightfall made sure they were all there then turned to Redlance. "Make that vine wall as secure as you can, my love. Tyleet, Help Sword Fall and Woodshot with the cubs and... talk to Venka. I need to talk to Cutter." she lept into the trees with that.
Tyleet stared. "VENKA?!"
Swordfall pressed herself against a tree, Eyeing Snowfall. then she blinked. "Snow Racer is out hunting!" she called to Redlance.
"I will send for all the hunting parties to return," Redlance assured her.

Woodshot eyed Swordfall. *I saw that look. Why do you not like Snowfall? He is part you..."

"He tried to run away from me!"
"not atchu" Snowfall told his sister.
Snow Racer bounded over to them as fast as his legs could carry him. "Redlance said there was trouble, are the cubs alright?" he asked, covered in blood from the kill he abandoned.
Snowfall raced over to hide behind his Sire's legs.
