The loud booms were the first to alert Kizzy of the storm, followed by the horrid sound of rain colliding with the window. "NO! No no no no no!" Kizzy forgot her pancakes and dropped her fork on the floor and ran to the nearest window and smished her face up against it.

"Kizzy! What's the matter with you?" Sai picked up the discarded fork from the floor and set it on the table.

"It's doing dat again!" She made frantic and agitated motions towards the window and growled. Walking over Sai put her arms around Kizzy's neck and hugged her close to calm her.

"Sweetie, that's just the rain. The earth needs water that comes from the clouds in the sky. That's how everything stays healthy, and is able to grow. Now come on, finish up your pancakes before they get cold!" Sai ushered her daughter to the table with a clean for and then went over to greet Loki and Maren with a bow. "Welcome to the Inn! My name is Sai, may I help you?"

Paine sighed as she heard the noises of thunder echo through the room. "Ah, Mother Nature. Whether rain or sun, its truly beautiful..nature...yet...very dangerous also" she seemed to be going off into her own world. "Ah, you must think I'm delusional. I'll stop now. Hmmm....wonder if there's a possibility of a blackout? Better warn Miss Sai later...when she returns" Paine cut another piece of her pancake and popped it in her mouth, chewing the soft goodness in silence.

Despite the crowd, the little girl caught Loki's attention. She was a cute little thing, but she had a very strange outfit, all spikes. Loki wondered why the child's mother would let her wear something so dangerous-looking. Perhaps she was in a play?

She smiled when the mother came over to greet her. At least it was a friendly inn.

"Pleased to meet you, Sai," she said. "You work here? I'm hoping to stay in town for a little while and I could do with a room, if there's one spare. I'm Loki, by the way."

Once they arrived at the indicated room and the door was unlocked, Cordain had put Zeejay down upon the bed before he hurried out to his room. He came back moments later with a bandage roll, gauze and heated water.

He spent the next several minutes carefully cleaning and dressing Zeejay's wounds, starting with the most severe and working from there. Eventually he sat back and wiped his forehead with the back of a bloodied hand, doing naught more then streaking blood across it.

"That will at best slow her down but...If we do not get a doctor in here she'll probably expire from whatever it is that's causing her to cough up blood..." He stood up and turned to Chiaku, "Ah, right you needed to speak with me." he motioned to the door across the hall, which led to his room, "Zee, we'll be right back."

He then stepped out of Zeejay's room and moved into his, waiting for Chiaku to follow.

Downstairs Rae sighed and moved back to the counter to seat himself, "Well...hopefully the salve will help...poor girl, I wonder what happened to her..."

He heaved a heavy sigh before he leaned against the bar and took occasional, idle sips from his glass of water, or bites from a loaf of bread. It was obvious he had something on his mind as even the slow slip of his glasses down the bridge of his nose went unnoticed.

Chiaku followed Cordain silently as he cared for Zeejay. However, when he was finally finished, she realized it was now important to explain to the innkeeper her concerns.

"Sir Cordain, there is a very serious matter at hand," she said softly, hoping that there were no others to overhear the conversation. "We discovered that Zeejay was wounded by human weapons. Astora Village has grown accustomed to attacks from the fae, but humans...? No. We do not know what intentions these people against the village or against Ms. Morato, but we will need to be alert."

Crossing her arms, the governess frowned considerably. "We brought Ms. Morato here for medical attention, and also...I think you will be able to guard her room in case her attackers return. Are you willing to put the lives of people in your inn at risk? If not, we will surely move her elsewhere, but we thought it might be best for her to stay here until she recovered."

Cordain bowed his head before he moved over to the wall where his sheathed katana was and he unsheathed it just enough so that it was no longer locked into place, "...For now I think it is best that Zeejay stays here until we have a doctor to take care of her."

He turned around, his arms crossed over his chest, "...I will stand guard over her and hopefully she WILL tell us what happened...but I have a feeling friends from her past came to say hello..."

He gave a long sigh, "But I understand your concerns Lady Chiaku, most of those wounds could not have been re-opened wounds...too clean...not the signs of torn flesh..."

Faevan

Faevan rushed into the house, leading the way and releasing the lock. She held the heavy door open, and watched as Shin cane in from the storm. Looking outside into the swiftly growing darkness, she couldn't find Dio or Sylvia. A bit panicy, she looked outside, squinting through the rain, and saw a light appear in Dio's ranchhouse window. With a sigh, she closed the door, shaking the water out of her hair and removing her coat.

"Where's Papa?" Shin asked quietly, not quite looking at Faevan, a bit ashamed of himself.

"He's at his ranch. I'll take you there after the storm passes, if you'd like." Faevan looked at him, her eyes almost sad, as she fidled through the gloom of the kitchen, looking for her matches. In a quick spark, she struck one, lighting a nearby lantern. "For now, will you help me light the lamps?" She held out a long taperes stick meant for lighting the candles nestled gently in the simple glass cases throughout the house. Shin took one, lit it, and took off into the living room. Faevan caught her breath a bit as she watched him shelter the flame within his palm to keep it lit. She didn't know how flame retardent her little nephew actually was, but he returned safely, the taper blown out, a small film of white smoke drifting up from the charred end.

"Auntie FaeFae?" Shin began, handing her the tpaer and seating himself at the table. "I'm...I'm sorry I yelled at you today." His long fingers trached the woodgrain about the table, keeping his eyes busy.

Faevan took a chair beside him, taking his hand in hers and tilting his chin up.

"Shin, I'm sorry too." She brushed a leaf out of his eyes, smiling softly. "I'm not very good at this guardian thing. I don't ywant to replace you're Papa, you know that, right?" She waited until he finished nodding, and continued. "Shin, you have to understand one thing. Things were...different, when it was just your Papa and I. We lived here long before the other villagers came, when the Fae were still deep in the forest and didn't live in the village..."

"Do you not want us here?" Shin asked, his green eyes looking worried.

"Oh, no no no!" Faevan hushed him. "Your Papa and I love you. But the Fae in the forest are different from you and the other children. They can be..." She sighed and got up, disappearing into another room and returning with a tattered book. "Some of this is missing, but what you need to know is here." She slid the book onto the table, resting her hand on the worn leather. "This belonged to your great, great grandmother. Her name was Sylvia."

"Just like my sister?" He asked, and grinned impishly. He liked the sound of that. His sister.

"Yes. She was named after her." And she also lived here during a time when the Fae lived a lot closer to Astora. Now, I know you can't read this now," She looked at him, her eyes looking conflicted for a moment, "but maybe you can start once you learn a bit in school? If you're going to learn history, I think you should learn your own too."

Shin simply looked at Faevan, blinking a few times before launching himself into her arms.

"It's a pleasure to meet you Loki, and, yes, I'm the maid here. The owner is currently dealing with an emergency, but, we have plenty of extra rooms." She smiled at the new patron and then turned back to see if Kizzy was back to eating.

"What's a blackout?" Kizzy stabbed more of her pancakes and shoved them into her mouth and causing her to look something like a hamster. She chewed slowly as best she could over the mass of fluffy sugary goodness.

Shin Daiko's Phase III Information:

Speech: Shin Daiko enjoys learning new words and he attempts to use them often in conversation. Unfortunately, he tends to misunderstand certain words and uses them incorrectly. When he is around strangers, he tends to not like talking very much. He continues to call Faevan his aunt, though he recognizes Dio as his "papa."

Appearance: Taller than average children his age, Shin Daiko is a little over 5 feet tall now. His wings have grown massively large, making it difficult for him to move through doors unless he turns appropriately while going through them.

Abnormalities: Other than difficulties with size, Shin Daiko seems to be otherwise like a normal fae child.

Behavior: Shin Daiko has developed a habit of standing very still near other trees and watching birds. At times, the birds land upon his outstretched hands, wings, or leafy head, and he is able to stand quietly for long periods of time while this occurs. He has grown more anti-social, unwilling to befriend and converse with others unless he is already acquainted with them. Otherwise, he is very kind, patient, and friendly.

Faevan felt the child in her arns, and realized that Shin was bigger than she remembered. In fact, looking at him, he was almost as tall as her now. When had he grown so?

Gently, Shin pulled away, taking the book in hin hands and looking at it, while Faevan just stared at him, embarassed with herself that she hadn't noticed the important things while she was fussing over petty things. He opened the book, examining the delicate scrawling inside before closing it and putting it back on the table.

"I don't think I want to go to school, Auntie Fae Fae."

Faevan sputtered. "But Shin, I thought you wanted to go."

Shin looked up at Faevan, trying to find the right words to express himself.

"I don't want to be worth something?" He stammered, fidgeting uncomfortably?

"Worth something?" Faevan furrowed her brow, trying to understand. She remembered her outburst earlier. She didn't know Shin had heard that. " You mean worthless?" Shin nodded, flushed. "Oh Little..." she caught herself, chuckling. She couldn't call him that any longer. "Sweetheart, you're not worthless. And you never will be. There will be plenty of time to teach you a trade. Your Papa was right. You're still a boy. You need to play and enjoy yourself."

Shin looked skeptically at his Aunt, but nodded.

"Let's go relax for a while. I don't think this rain is going to stop tonight. If you want, you can stay here, and I'll give you a lesson on Dream?" She offered.

Shin's eyes lit up, and he followed his Aunt out of the room. Passing the doorway, his wings caught. He has never given them much thought. A bit concerned, he angled himself and squeezed through, a frown on his lips. He cast an emerald gaze in Faevan's direction. She seemed to not have noticed, and he was glad. He didn't need to be any more trouble.

"A blackout is when all the lights turn off and everything stops working..." Paine explained to the fae. It was hard defining a blackout to Kizzy, since her life was all about details. If she explained what a blackout was, she might confuse Kizzy, leaving more questions to be answered by the girl. "A blackout usually occurs once in a while...if the weather is really bad." she continued. She pondered the statement. "Weather....hey Kizzy, did that fae in Carol's arms really change the weather?" Paine asked. She didn't know the green haired fae's name yet, but she would ask Carol later. "Maybe you should make him change the weather again" she joked.

Paine's mind was all blurry. Her mind was dense with thoughts of a new outfit for Carol. After all, Carol did request it didn't she? She asked her to create new outfits for them, right? But what did Carol look good in? Maybe a few more investigation of the girl's personality and style would be better. She wanted to create clothes for her new friend, but..she wanted to create something that Carol would like.

Carol smiled. "Yes, Yes Kapono Change the weather again please" She joked around and looked at the Fae in her lap; Who stared at her with half interest before turning back to the plate that was no empty. With a sigh Carol got up; taking the child up with her, and then stood to the side, sliding the boy back into the chair.

She then picked up her plates and walked over to the sink and slowly started to rinse their plate. When she looked back to where Kapono was though, she saw he had crawled out of the chair and was sleeping under teh table. With a giggle Carol shook her head and went back to working on her dishes.

Paine was just about done with her pancake, and got up and carried some dishes to Carol. "So, your fae's name is Kapono? What a nice name..." Paine said, setting down the dirty dishes by the others. She eyed the dishes that Carol was rinsing. "Need some help?" she offered. "An artist is good with art, but also good at cleaning up messes..." she remembered the times she was so into her art, she created a huge mess on the floor, cleaning up the floor for some time before it was sparkling clean. She sighed. "the old times....oh, sorry, dozed off again, anyway, need help?"
PostPosted: Wed May 04, 2005 5:45 pm

Carol smiled "Yep; It was a populare name in my old village" Carol spoke and then scooted over giving paine room beside her to help. "Sure thing; the more the marrier" She giggled as she reached for her water glass that she had drunk out of. "Sooo Paine; You staying here at the inn? I think I need to get a room myself" She spoke trying to make small conversation with the other woman.

"Yeah, I'm currently staying at the inn for now. I got to go see uh...Lady Chiaku is it? to see if I can really stay. I got a small room for now, but I haven't been able to sleep or stay in it, since there was a little, uh, emergency I had to help out with." Paine said, grabbing a plate. "How long have you been here Carol?"
