It was slightly odd to not have to run very fast to keep up with someone. He was used to his family and all of them were almost as fast as the wind. It didn't take much to catch up to Safi or to match his pace even if it was a little awkward.
Maybe he just shouldn't mention that to the other stallion. It couldn't be nice to be told you were slow.

Still dashing along through the trees, Safi was amused more than anything to see Wadi matching his pace. He was hardly surprised; his daughter had been able to outrun him even when she was a foal! No, the only time he truly had any speed was when he was in the air, and at the moment, that would be rather hard to manage.
Regardless, it didn't take that much longer for the two stallions to reach the apple stand; cantering to a halt, Safi leaned against one of the tree trunks, huffing and puffing a bit. "Well Wadi, looks like you, at least, have properly speedy feet!" He'd given up being embarrassed by his slowness ages ago, so discussing that slowness made perfect sense. "Good thing for me I was leading, otherwise I WOULD have been left in the dust!"

He grinned slightly as he came to a halt. "At least i got the ability to run along with being scared." He'd always thought it was good he could match his Uncles for speed since he seemed to want to run away from everything.
"Though that did make it a little harder for Dah to catch me when i was little .." Nuka didn't run as fast as Mama's side of the family.

"Well, running and being scared tend to go together; I suppose in your case, you'd REALLY want to cultivate speed!" Laughing, Safi ran his wings over his sides, dusting off stray leaves and the light touch of sweat that had managed to accumulate during their short run. "I myself was always a bit cocky, and therefore would have gotten eaten several times over, had I ever encountered anything so inclined. Consequently I never developed any speed!"
Oh well, que sera sera. "And I'm guessing your dad has no wings, right? My kids were faster than me too, but I could run them down in the air." Grinning, he fanned his wings, giving them an amused look. "Kept me in control, these things, or at least as in control as I could be, given the circumstances."

He shook himself to get rid of the leaves and the dust before he reached up to bite half an apple off a branch. He chewed it and nodded. "Yea ... No one in the family's got wings. Everyone on my Mama's side of the family's fast. Dah had a hard time keepin up with me and my sister."
Though since Wadi usually got scared if he ran to far away it wasn't that much of a chore he supposed. "At least you could catch them someone. It'd be bad if kids could get away without you being able to stop them"

"Yes, things have a habit of working out in the end. I'm slow on foot, so fast on wing; you're terrified of the world, so you're fast on foot. It all circles around, good for bad, yada yada ya." Grinning, Safi straightened up, eyeing the trees himself before he reared up against the side, snaring an apple in his teeth and knocking down a few more with his wings.
"'Hr, 'at ough'a 'old ush 'or a 'it" Or rahter, that ought to hold them for a bit...if he did say so himself. Crunching through his current apple as he dropped down onto the ground, Safi flashed Wadi a pleased grin. "Obviously lack of food isn't a problem after all!"

He crunched the other half of the apple off the tree and shook a few stray leaves of of his hair. "Makes sense. Though what if you have wings and are afraid like me? Does that mean you get both?" Or did you just get eaten trying to overcompensate with one or the other?
"Shouldn't talk with your mouth full." He walked over and nudged Safi's shoulder wit his head before he leaned down to get another apple. There were plenty so they certainly weren't in danger of running out.

"Maybe you're supposed to fly away if you're scared and have wings. Or maybe you're one of those purists that tries to focus exclusively on one trait, be it running or flying." Honestly, that was an interesting question. And how did swimming fit into the equation, he wondered...
Still, he wasn't Kildegard, wont to drifitng away in his own thoughts. He could muse and be aware of his surroundings at the same time, as he was now.
"Well, don't provoke conversation when my mouth is full, then!" Grinning, Safi returned the nudge by whapping Wadi on the nose with a wing, doing his best to look prim and disproving while still failing miserably. "And didn't you ever learn that it's rude to eat standing up?"
Probably not, since Safi had just made it up, by why let facts get in the way of fun?

"It is not you just made that up!" He huffed and leaned down to eat another apple. That was just silly. If they ate lying down all the time something was bound to sneak up on them and have them for lunch! That just wouldn't do.
"That would work, unless you ran faster then you could fly. Though i guess if whatever you were being chased didn't have wings it would just work easier to fly anyway even if you couldn't do it fast.

"So what if I did? It's still a good rule." With the stiffness that accompanied feigned solemnity, Safi proceded to flop down into the grass, pulling in some of the nearby apples with his wings. Having done that, he proceded to give Wadi a challenging look, his dancing eyes giving away the ruse as always. "But it IS rude to stand up when your conversation partner isn't."
That said, he wiggled over a bit to the side, then nodded his head at the clear space. "You don't even have to flop on an apple."

"It is not. If you did that all the time something's bound to pounce on you and eat you before you can get up. It's a horrible rule." He snorted and huffed for a minuet until Safi flopped down and made room for him.
He thought about it for a moment. He really could get eaten faster that way but Safi was there and that should be okay right? He flopped down on the grass a little hesitantly and looked around at what he could see from this new vantage point.

"Unless you're scouted your surroundings and always keep an ear out for the proverbial something. I like to eat lying down, and I've never been eaten yet, so you can toss THAT into your random musings."
Still, Safi could tell that this was a novelty for Wadi, so he was more than willing to make allowances. "If something DOES sneak up on us, though, it's more likely to see me first and try to eat me, so you ought to be safe. In the meantime, have an apple!" Grinning, he nosed one of his hoarded fruits over to his friend, advising in the meantime, "relax, while you're at it. This is supposed to be a fun meeting, after all, and being tense can't be fun."
And Wadi DID look a tense. Close as they were, Safi could see that the other stallion wasn't completely at ease, so he reached out with a wing and began to gently rub the other stallion's shoulders. "Loosen up."

He scrunched his nose as he though about that. Safi was older than him and if he'd been doing that longer then maybe it was alright every once in a while. He didn't think he'd make a habit out of it but with friends or something he could sit down to eat.
"I don't blend in all that well either." It was green around them and his dappled brown and white coat along with the rather obvious marking on his hind end was bound to attraction. "Though ... you do stick out more." The other stallion was mostly white after all.
He nibbled on the apple but it took him a while before he started to relax. He did like the petting though and after a bit shifted closer to it without thinking.

"Well, at the moment we're talking in terms of comparative camoflaugue, not individual camoflague. If it came down to you or me on our own, I think we'd be in trouble, though I would likely be noticed sooner if we were near each other and alone. But at the moment...I'm glad you agree. Though hopefully we won't have to test that theory and will instead be able to enjoy our meal without becoming one."
That sounded like a good plan to Safi, though he honestly wasn't that worried about being eaten. He'd never been eaten yet, he didn't plan to start being eaten today. If that even made any sense. Start being eaten today with the rest saved for later by a scrupulous predator? Sounds fun. Or not.
But why worry when there were things that could be enjoyed? Things like the softness of the grass, the sweetness of the apples, the interest of the company...
Wadi was surprisingly well-muscled, Safi noticed as he continued to rub at the other stallion's shoulders. At first glance, he always seemed really slight, but that might be because of how nervous he always was...but really, he was a rather solid stallion.
Musing on these things, Safi kept up the massage, working his way along Wadi's shoulders and even up towards his neck. He was a nice solid stallion, alright...

"I hide better on the plains." There were rocks there and dirt and he matched better. Safi probably couldn't hide anywhere unless it was snowing or he was in the air. Hiding in snow didn't sound all that fun though. Snow was cold.
Eventually he gave up munching on the apples to concentrate on the feeling of Safi's wing. He didn't get why it felt good but it was nice. Different than when his Mama used to nuzzle him when he was little and frightened.
"...that feels good..." He closed his eyes and let his head lean on Safi hoping that it wouldn't get in the way. He didn't think that would make any problems since his wings weren't under him or anything.
