I understand how you feel. Like you were saying I like images rather than music but most of the time they go hand in hand with each other in my head... I have all these crazy images but I lost any skill I had for drawing so I can't put it on paper. That's one of the most frustrating things to experience.

I know how to read music fairly well, I just can't sight read (play as I read without missing a beat), and I understand music theory fairly well. I play guitar, I sing, I scream like the metalcore kids lol, and I can play a few little diddies on a keyboard. I want to learn so many instruments that it's stupid, but mostly I want to learn cello. Lol okay, I'm done bragging... ^-^;

GigaWraith Lol there would be no point. I just felt like writing a song lol.
That'd be great. "Oh crap, Rain wants to battle. Better go listen to the theme song and get pumped up!" XD
Hey how did I get in this? xD

Maledictio is going on the rare but occationall bragging run: I've been able to read music basically pitch perfect since I was five (I could read music before I could read actual words very well), by the time I was fiveteen I could read any cleff of music, and sight reading has never been a problem. I have yet to run into an instrument that I can't play fairly well right off the bat but I focus on piano, viola, guitar, recorder, fife, and orph. My main thing is voice though as I've had professional leasons since I was four, which is good as I want to go to Broadway and most of the people who have heard me sing say that I'm good enough already and I'm not quite seventeen.
Maledictio is done bragging, and you probably won't see that again on gaia unless someone prevokes her.
AkaMaaku, I'm not going to be all optemistic and such by saying you'll get your drawing skill back but I will say that you should keep trying. If you drew your signature I'm quite impressed.

Actually Silver drew that for me because I thought I didn't have a scanner to scan anything I drew and also I liked how silver drew her character... But I'll take your advice and keep going at it maybe I'll have at least a percentage of what i could do before...

XD People like you...I admire them, and at the same time, they piss me off. They have these amazing gifts that they were born with, and of course they learn piano right off the bat, therefore solidifying their ability to be able to play any instrument they pick up at least decently.
My question is this: why did you previously say you couldn't write music, or play an instrument well enough for it?

I don't mean to piss anyone off as I am aware I have an amazing gift and make sure not to take it for granted even for a second. I said that I couldn't write or play well enough because the music in my head is highly complex with multipul parts and occational massive part harmonies. Possibly if I buckled down and studdied one instrument for many years I could possibly play some of the stuff in my head but I love too many instruments to enjoy playing one for that long. I'm taking my first Music Theory class this year so I'm hoping that will help with the writing but I'm not sure. That's the funny thing with my ability is I have no idea how music works, untill a few years ago I just acsepted that it always worked for me and didn't realize how much there was behind it.

Oh, yeah there's a lot behind it. All my knowledge is self-taught. I actually only started when I was fourteen, I think. I'm seventeen now. And I understand what you're saying when you can't get the stuff in your head out on an instrument. I had that problem for a while, but not so much anymore. I can sort of play by ear, but not amazingly. And as far as all that complexity, I enjoy music like that too (Nightwish happens to be my favorite band), but I've been experimenting with a lot of different styles of music lately, and I must say it astonishes me when artist can make beautiful songs with only a small amount of complexity too it. A lot of times there is much more complexity there than your notice at first listen.

I've attempted to teach myself music theory but I just can't seem to. My boyfriend has taught me a lot in the past year but I'm still looking forward to class. Simplicity can often be more moving than anything complex, not to say I dislike complex music seen as I think in it. I adore Nightwish, one of my friends told me to audition to be their lead singer when the were holding auditions... my mother found out where they're from and that idea died.

Haha yeah. Kitee, Finland is sort of a ways away. One band I'm not sure you would like, but is just phenomenal is Billy Talent. They're a rock band with punk roots. Yes, I know when you think of punk, you think "Oh wow. A 3-chord song. That's amazing," but it's really a lot more than that. The way the make everything flow together is AMAZING. They really know how to write a song. Their lead singer has this sort of nasal-y voice that works really well with their style, and he has this thing that he does that is sort of a cross between a modern metalcore shriek, and an oldies-metal falsetto wail thingy. You know what I'm talking about (I think). It's great, though. Look up "River Below" or "Perfect World". Both really well written songs.

I don't look at genre to determine if I like a band or artist, it all depends on the people in the band and the way the music flows and sounds. I'll look them up, thanks. As we aren't suggesting anything anymore how about we move this convo into the thread I just opened for Music, art, and such.
