Thamina grew silent for a few moments before answering. "Any is too many." Yes she knew of more then a few that had been either killed or captured by the humans. "These past many a year though we have gotten back only one and she is different because of the experiance. Even I cannot heal such wounds as those of the mind."

The shadow of a ship loomed on the horizon of the selkie's paradise. It's sails were black and it sliced through the waves like a looming storm cloud. At the brow of the ship stood a tall man with short dark hair and the garb of a wealthy pirate whose business was very successful, his brilliant emerald eyes dulled. His strong face was set with hallowed cheeks and heavy eyes. His men had nearly been done in by the navy, and they had run for several days, having dropped their cargo to increase their speed, and now were all very hungry and weary. The captain himself even had to starve with them, knowing if he ate any more, he'd have a mutiny. Then the isle had been spotted, and now the excited men, all gruff and dirty, grimly sailed towards it. They would have cheered, but that could wait until they have food in their belly. They also had to repair the ship, which had barely been patched up on the waves from the cannon holes the riddled it.
Aeya was silent, frowning and pulling up her legs to rest her arms and head on her knees. She had to speak to the queen...

Thamina looked at Aeya and then stood up paying no heed to the waterfront. "Lets go see if she will speak with you now. You are well enough and I think she would have time." She then turned and saw the ship on the waves coming to their island. The ship felt different then the last one...darker and scarier. "Lets go now...quickly."

Aeya sighed, "All right." She stood, dusting off the furred skirt, frowning at bit at how annoying sand could be, then moved to follow Thamina, only to run into her. "Why'd you stop?" She then turned and stared, "What is that?" She asked, not recognizing it right away.
Wilden Gage, or the notorious Captain Gage as everyone called him, turned from his post, "Get those sails hoisted and get us on that island." He shouted, in a foul mood from the chase. They had lost a lot of precious cargo, all money lost, including his latest batch of captives he had been taking to the slave market. "Come on, laddies, we'll have fresh food soon." He dearly hoped that there was fresh water as well. The grog was all that they had left, and his crew would likely take their suffering out on his hide.
The ship caught a wave and moved in towards a good port on the sands swiftly. The man in the crow's nest peered through his spyglass, spotting the two figures on the sands, "Cap'n, there be natives..."

Ali'kai, Selkie queen, had been sitting within her room for some time now, thinking of many things, including the fact that they had interacted with humans that had not taken them for slave trading, like she had heard many tribes fall prey to. A grim look was on her face, and today, she had put on a long skirt to match her top, layered, elegant, sandals on her feet. A pause, and she sensed something wrong. Like a mother's intuition, she felt unease with her island, a frown coming over her face, her door slamming open as she began to run towards the disturbance, stopping when she reached a nearby cliff, over looking the spot where she could see Thamina and Aeya.
Letting out a screech of rage, she looked to the ship on the horizon, growling. The merchants had betrayed them after all! They had sent pirates after them! She never should have thought that humans could be trustworthy! Now, she ran again, harder, and faster, as fast as she could, down the cliff sides, down through the village, and towards the beach, looking and seeing the two Selkies.
"Thamina, run away."

Humming softly to herself, Aoide stepped onto the beach, feeling herself sink down slightly in the sand. Taking slow, steady steps along the shore, her brown eyes caught sight of two rather familar figures further up ahead. Hesitantly, she rose a hand to wave, freezing only when she noticed that they looked slightly troubled, their gaze had been directed out towards the sea.
Turning her head, she scanned the horizon, instantly catching sight of a large, dark shadow. A ship?! Alarmed, she turned to rush to the Queen's office, only to hear Ali'kai's voice from nearby. Glancing towards the source of the voice, she felt both relief and worry seep into her at the sight of their queen. But...what now? Surely they couldn't - and wouldn't - allow this ship to come to their island?
"My lady?" She murmured to Ali'kai, stepping towards them hesitantly.

Ali'kai looked to the voice that had addressed her softly, her eyes widening slightly. She realized that Aoide was here now, and she didn't want to lose her to this ship. She was young. She had much to live for, and she didn't want her to become a slave...not to a filthy human. Taking her tribe member's hand, she gave her a very serious look, one that she did not often give to her fellow selkies.
"Aoide. Run. I want you to run with this little one, as well as Thamina. Warn the tribe to hide. Do not let them fall prey to these humans."

Aeya blinked at the sudden appearance of the queen and the other healer selkie, tilting her head, eyes going wide when she was told of the humans. "Then that's a human ship?" She turned and scowled, "I need a weapon! I'll fight them off!" She growled out, fists clenched tightly as an ominous wind lifted her long silken black hair, ruffling the soft fur of her pelt. She wanted a blade carved from shell or a spear, anything that she could use to slay the evil creatures heading towards them.

Aoide opened her mouth to protest, when her eyes met the queen's serious ones. Instantly, she closed her mouth, listening quietly to what she had to say. She knew that she was right, and Aoide was extremely loyal to their queen, however she couldn't help but protest. "But my lady," She said softly, "Can we not do anything to help? Letting them onto this island..." Trailing off, she shook her head. "And what if something were to happen to you?" If something had happened to the queen...
Looking at Aeya as she spoke, the young Selkie sighed softly. Would they really have to fight these humans? Inside, she was praying that this group of humans were not hostile, but the very sight of that ship seemed to tell her otherwise.
Reaching out, she rested a hand on Aeya's shoulder, turning to look at Thamina as well. "We should probably warn the others first, as the queen asked." She murmured, "After that..." She trailed off, though her thoughts were clear enough. If they had to fight to protect their island, their queen, and their friends...then what much more choice did they have?

Fight? Thamina knew nothing of fighting. She only knew how to heal and care for others. And yet the cold chill that ship cause to run down her spine made her shiver. It may very well be time for her to learn how to fight. She looked at Aeya and then sighed. "I will warn the others. Come help me get them ready Aeya. Not many of us know how to defend our selves." The healer then wrapped her skin about herself and dove into the water to reach her kin who were playing under the waves totally unaware that they were in terrible danger.

Aeya frowned when Thamina spoke, but nodded. She knew that these warmer water sisters didn't fight much...which had surprised her, concidering how much closer they were to humans. In her world, humans were much more dangerous than killer whales. So with a nod, Aeya raced after the older selkie, diving into the waves even as her small body was consumed by the expanding white fur of her 'clothing' and shifted into that of a white seal with a dusting of black spots. She swam swiftly and skillfully, much faster in the water than on land as she sent out warning cries to her sisters, alerting them that they had to return to the safety of the others.
Captain Gage moved to help his crew assemble as they swiftly approached the island, already his mind working. He knew the natives wouldn't trust them because of the black sails, but he was a sweet talker. Ordering all of his men to stay aboard besides one, he had them anchor just off shore and was lowered down in a row boat, his man rowing them over the waves, towards the pristine little island.

Ali'kai gave a reassuring smile to Aoide, then frowned slightly. She knew for a fact that there was a reason she was queen of this island. She was not only a wise queen, but a warrior. So, looking to Aoide, she gave a deep sigh and gave her a final command.
She knew that she would not be able to stay on this island, even if they were able to get rid of the intruders, there would be dangerous humans that knew where they were. So, the silver haired selkie turned her sharp gaze to her follower's eyes, sighing a third time, her heart heavy.
"My child...I want you to go to my chambers. I require my scepter and my robes. I want these intruders to know that they are not welcome here, and I want them to know who they deal with."

Watching quietly as Thamina and Aeya left to warn the others. Swallowing, the Selkie stared after them, hoping that they'd be able to get everyone to safety in time.
Looking up as Ali'kai spoke, Aoide turned quickly to face her. She offered the queen a small smile, but her brown eyes were filled with concern as she spoke. She canted her haead to the side as she was given her orders. Though nervous, she bowed in reply, deciding to place all her trust in her queen and fellow Selkies. "Of course, my lady. I'll be back in a moment."
With that, she turned and hurried towards Ali'kai's chambers, moving as fast as she could. 'That ship will arrive here soon,' She thought, as she slipped into the room, her eyes scanning the area. 'What will they do to usif they capture us?' Finally finding what she was looking for, Aoide draped the robes over one arm, and closed a hand firmly around the scepter.
Within a few minutes, she had returned back to the beach, her chest heaving as she took deep breaths, holding everything out to Ali'kai.

Aeya finished watching to make sure that her sisters hurried around the side of the beach and onto the land where they would be grouped together. "Thamina, make sure that everyone is ready to flee into the sea if they have to. There is an island northeast of here. It's a swim, but if we are all together, we can make it." She had changed into her human form to say this, and kicked out, heading back onto the beach. "My Queen, please allow me to stay by your side and protect you." The young selkie said, her long black hair plastered to her small frame, eyes fierce.
The small boat holding the Captain and one crew member floated towards the island, inching ever closer. They were in plain sight, and, Captain Gage hoped, non-threatening.

Ali'kai at this point, looked to Aoide, giving a silent thank you with a nod. Taking her robes, which had been made of pelts which had come from her family line, ones that had been ruling the selkies for generations now. The pelt was of a silvery white hue, one that was like her own, her blue eyes fierce as she put it on. This moment, she took the scepter, smiling gently at Aoide.
"Thank you. Now please, go with the others. Be safe, Aoide." No more words were said, and so, the queen turned around, holding her scepter (made of various items from the island, its own luster rivaling one of gold and jewels), looking down to the small warrior selkie.
"Aeya. You are a brave warrior, and I wish you by my side."
