Addie realized she was in the wrong, even though it took her some time to realize it. She growled a bit, and yelled to both of them.
"STOP! NOW! We'll leave."
She said, picking her pride up where it had sunk in the bottom of her belly. She had started it, now she was hoping to end it, for she knew the pride laws as well when it came to breeding.
"Cassius.."
She said softly.
"C'mon."

Before Addie's words were heard Cassius dealt a fatal blow to Jukar's neck and as he he bled heavily he collapsed to the ground. Cassius growled in shame as backed away. Kina ran forward and nuzzled her dying mate and looked up to Cassius and then to her son.

Adalae stared in horror. Her face a mix of shock and overwhelming ache for the mate of the male.
She backed way, shaking her head in disbelief. If he killed that easy.. What if he got the taste for killing.. After all.. He'd just defeated a pride leader, now the cubs were going to come into play.
She couldn't watch that.
Without saying anything, other than a shrill scream, she took off.
She had no idea where she was going.. But she was running.. She had seen this all before.. And it was not pretty.

Cassius turned quickly to Addie who had run off and as he started to take off after her Kina stopped him short.
"So now what?" She looked up at him with tears in her eyes though a sadness could not be found for her fallen mate. "I've never loved my mate since it was him who killed my last cub and took me as his own," She stood and walked over to Nevar. "Though I will not let you kill this one."
Cassius didn't think twice as he ran after Addie catching up to her by only a few feet.

She hadn't noticed him chasing her, and she had not heard the conversation or the plea that the other lioness put out. But she stopped, and growled a bit, c losing her eyes.
Damn..
And she was really starting to like him... like that..

"Do you really think I'd be so cold? To have known me in such a short while yes, it was a travesty to see such a brutal act with Jukar but do you honestly think I would kill a cub just for the sake of making room for my own?" Cassius said as he came up behind her.
"I will go back to that pride and help them, however I will not take the position as leader." he sighed heavily as he collapsed to the ground huffing. His own wounds had started to open on his hind leg and it shook unbearably.

"No, it's not about the killing of cubs.. " Though she definately wasn't going to stick around for something so vile.
"It's about the whole.. Pride thing. You go back, mate to the lionesses in your pride, and the lioness who was really genuinely starting to fall for your wiles, is left out by herself.. Becoming an 'outsider' as Jukar had so rudely put it.."
She had begun thinking about that, and she wouldn't belong to any pride.. ever.. Unless she had started the pride, and the pride consisted of only females she trusted.
And she had none of those..
"I can't be part of a pride.." She didn't finish the sentence with what she wanted to say.
-So I can't ever truly mate with you-..
Which she had wanted to do upon meeting him..
"And you can't leave them.."

"Well, no. I can't leave them but I don't plan on joining their pride either." He twitched as he stood faintly.
"Nika never loved Jukar though he took her as his mate, it was all about keeping up with appearances because if she hadn't mated with Jukar than she would have been removed from the pride. Believe me I hate prides just as much as you do but it isn't something you or I can avoid forever." He sat down from the pain.
"I can't just leave them like that, I have to go back Addie. I'd like it if you came with me, honestly...I don't know if I can go back on my own..." He looked down in shame.
"It's my fault he's dead regardless, so I don't have a choice. You do though."

Addie turned, to lay eyes on his wounds, and her heart softened. She went to him slowly, and began to lick his wounds, and rubbing her face in his mane.
"At least you're okay. Thats all that matters Cas.. It could have been so much worse."
She licked him some more, and then removed her tongue, and put her paws over one another, laying her head on the tops.
"I..Im not good in prides.. I've been rejected out of enough of them.." She said, letting him in on one of her secrets.

Cassius let a small smile reach the corner of his mouth and he nuzzled his nose into her fur. "My mother mated the male that took over our pride and told him that she had already killed all of her young as soon as she heard he was going to fight my father; to convince him that she was loyal to only him. Really she hid me the night before and told me to run away. My father was old and she knew he wouldn't live through the fight and she was right." Cassius looked up at the setting sun.
"We should go, they'll be worried if we don't show up."

Adalae growled at the thought of his life, for she had experienced something like it, though she'd never offer it up.
"Cassius..."
She had always wanted the family right?.. Maybe she should be bold and ask.. After all.. He was the first one she'd ever been so bold to before..
"Cassius, I'll follow.. But how do you feel of children?"

"Hm?" He looked at her slightly wide eyed. (O_o) Then a grin slewed across his face like a lion in heat.
"I'd love to have children with you someday. But," He stood up still grinning. "I think it's best we focus at the prideful we have on our paws right now."

Mkay! So she had secured her right to his children now! Or.. Least a littler of children, should they only ever breed once..
"Oh, Uh-Mkay." She said, looking at him shocked, but then her face softening into a much happy expression, letting a smile hit her maw.
Standing, she looked over to him and nodded.
"Im ready."

He laughed at how easy it was to make her happy and the two of them headed back to the pride.
As they re-entered through the pass Kina was sitting on a rock nearest the middle of the land the hills surrounded, the rest of the pride was circled around her.
"Look Kina, I'm not here to take the position as leader. I never intended any of this to happen.." Kina jumped down from the rock and sat in front of him listening contently as he continued with the story.
An hour or so continued on with the end decision that Cassius would stay and help the pride until one of the cubs was old enough to take over or another male came to claim it.
"So it's settled then?" Kina smiled at the idea of being in charge for once.
"The females have always been in control of the pride, we hunt and babysit and the males never do anything," Cassius laughed nervously at the gender directed comment.
"I guess..."
"So then, it's settled." Kina smiled to Addie hoping that she would agree.

Addie was relieved that the lioness hadn't asked for more cubs from the 'male' of the area.. She didn't think she'd like having to share a lion with another lioness.. Which meant.. if she ever did have cubs with Cassius.. She was afraid she'd have to have him to herself, or take off, cubs in tow..
She offered a slight smile, with things still playing on her mind as she nodded.
Sure.. Everything seemed okay with her.. Wasnt her pride.. and she certainly didnt belong to it..
"Sure."
