I'm just joking with you, Adam. You really aren't that loud.

Newanti didn't like to give the impression he was annoyed unless he truly was, so felt it was necessary to n** that in the bud right away. He knew the wolf before him was young and still prone to oversensitivity, so the more blunt, the better. He willed himself to adopt a more personable countenance; The old wolf wrapped his tail neatly about his hind end, giving the patched wolf an appraising look.

Don't worry about me, youngling. I am used to the solitude....and I'm never really alone anyway. You'll find that as a Seer, it's hard to keep your mind completely empty of other being's thoughts. Do you find yourself having trouble with that?

The forthrightness helped, as immediately Adam relaxed; having no paternal figure made him much more self-aware of what older males thought of him, and he figured even a slightly annoyed wolf with magic powers wasn't good to have. 'Sorta,' he admitted without shame. 'Not all the time. At first I got a lotta headaches, but that got better. I had this weird dream about my brother becoming part of a pack too, but I haven't seen him yet. And all these other weird dreams like it too, but not a whole lot: like sometimes I see babies being born, or hear someone's voice even though I can't see a face. Really random stuff like that, sir,' he concluded lamely. 'Least, if I remember the dream at all.

'But I'm trying to get better at getting into other animals' minds, sir! It's so neat to be like a bird flying around, or a squirrel moving real quickly in the trees. Um, not that I don't like being a wolf,'
Adam added hastily with a grin, 's'just that I never thought it'd be fun to . . . step out of my fur every once in a while, y'know?'

Newanti listened carefully as the young wolf rambled on about his dreams and about his experiences seeing through the eyes of the non-wolven kind and once Adam stopped talking, he didn't offer any comments for what seemed to be an eternity.

Have you seen any of your dreams come true? He finally asked, for the moment dismissing the topic of the lesser animals. Anything at all? Newanti wanted to know how tuned this wolf's visions were, or if the dreams were just dreams and not a view of the future at all. Anyone could dream, but only Seers could see the future in those dreams. Dreams are very important to Seers. A true Seer can help direct the dreams to uncover hidden information about the future but can also know when the information in those dreams are nothing but the mind wandering in sleep with flights of fancy. Just because it's in the dream doesn't make it true and sometimes what happens in the dream never really happens but gives insight to what actually will happen. Does that make sense?

The silence started off fine for young Adam, as he was used to quiet. Only . . . when he was alone, not with another wolf. Well maybe seers looked quiet on the outside all the time to others anyway, so this was something to get used to? Though Adam did perk once Newanti picked up again. 'Yessir,' he nodded, 'it makes sense. Well, um . . . I met with this girl called Lithium once, she had a really big belly. And then about two days later I had a dream she was with this white and purple-splotchy male, and they had . . . four kidlets, I think? Yeah, four. Three girls, one boy. I thought it was kinda random.

'But then I met them later! Well not the dad, but Lithium and her sis and her kidlets - Lithi's, not Aunt Phrenia's - who were, um . . . Sirius, Zephyr, Zarina, and Valium. Zarina's really, really mean to ants,'
he commented, remembering the occassion with a wince of a smile. 'But they were a nice lot, I think. I also met Lithium's sister, but when I looked at her mind there were other . . . other things in there.' He shuddered slightly, recalling faint voices within Schizophrenia that he dared not approach. It had been like nothing he had ever seen in a wolf's mind.

Newanti nodded thoughtfully. So you correctly predicted a birth and the individuals involved? That counts anyway, so that's good to know. The Omnus has hoped for something a little more grand or unexpected, but he was still satisfied that at least Adam had developed SOME ability to see the future. He allowed himself a grin at that.

As Adam took a slight deviation to talk about the wolves he met, Newanti took a moment to causally allow himself to slip into the very outer fringes of the youth's thoughts, observing the imagery there as Adam explained what he had witnessed. Adam's recollection of Phrenia also made Newanti shudder a little, recognizing the mental instability in there.

She is mentally unwell, that much is clear. Wolves like her are dangerous because they can hide their intentions so well, even to Seers if you aren't paying close attention. They are easily swayed too, from what they -think- they are going to do, so they need almost constant supervision if you think they might be of the murderous sort.

Since he had already extended himself to Adam's thoughts, he decided to test and see how self aware the young one actually was. Could he recognize when he was being 'watched'? Newanti pushed a little further past the very surface presently expressed thoughts and emotions, looking into the recent past.
PostPosted: Thu Apr 15, 2010 3:43 pm

Mentally unwell? But she seemed so sweet on the outside . . . To think to live like that! Adam couldn't fathom what it was like to have voices whisper in his head all the time - voices that aren't from living beings! He shuddered a little and moved on . . . Or at least tried to. For some reason, he was beginning to get inclinations of remembering that last night when he had run from Elaine, and how soon after Mordariel had found him to calm him down . . . He'd not been as angry as that since the burning of his home, or mayhaps even the recollections of why his family would leave him pinned thus in the midst of that chaos.

But odd, why would he suddenly remember that? Adam pondered perhaps too much talk of these voices of Aunt Phrenia's was doing something to him. And surely if he looked like that to Newanti, than it might ruin his chances! So he "picked up" the threads of that memory and began sliding past the strands to find what had suddenly brought this on - following the impulses and the exact pathway his mind had apparantly taken to bring about such memories (after all, it was Lithium's family they had been talking about, not batty Elaine's!).

What was odd was . . . He saw no rational explanation to it. Adam found no evidence to support that the had brought these memories in himself, and in an instant he grew more alert - perhaps a little frightened even that someone would be invading his mind now - and began to think as hard as he can about stones. No idea why stones, but perhaps if he could metaphorically block the intruder's entry, it would stop the peek at his mind? The most experience Adam had was with a different seer called Venda, but that pain through the link had not been intentional - and this was just a possible leakage, nothing too terrible. Still, he didn't want to look incompetant, and the young one did want to look impressive.

So, while attempting to keep concentrating on a solid rock wall, Adam probed about at the force, wondering what on earth would be interested in viewing his past at all -

- And the presence was quite familiar. Whoops. Er . . . that was a test, wasn't it. Figures he'd panic a little at a mere intrusion from the wolf. The young one docked his ears in embarassment.

newanti 'watched' the memories with an interested, yet nonjudgmental air, noting the particularly strong emotion in that snippet involving elaine. adam was a mellow wolf, so it was surprising to feel such intense anger in something as simple as a memory; memories tended to dampen even the strongest emotions, yet what he viewed was still quite 'fresh' in a way.

the omnus was aware of adam's attempt at sussing out his intruder and even his attempts at shutting him out. it was a commendable effort, but still not 100 percent effective. he retreated, leaving the adolescent alone in his own mind once again.

just getting an idea of where you stand with your abilities, adam. no need to feel ashamed. it is hard to block your mind from outside forces and i have to say, i am not your average seer, so it's a little more unfair. with practice, you will be able to do it without much effort.

he gave the teen a friendly grin and rolled his shoulders a bit, feeling a little achy from sitting so long.

so, adam, do you have any questions for me? you seem to be progressing well.

Adam sighed in relief and was glad not for the first time that his face was already naturally re-ohwaithischeekswereniceandpale. Crud. He cleared his throat and shook his head a bit, as if a slight flush was something able to be flung off. It was funny that now, given the chance to ask the questiosn that had invariably cropped up since his last tiem here, Adam had no idea where the words went. Several times he looked ready to phrase them, and then eventually decided to stick to the root of them and the simplest.

'Do we use magic?' he asked Newanti. 'Is this some kinda of spell-weaving we have? I knew a seer who said he saw something bad happen to his pack before it actually did, but they didn't listen to him, and the bad thing went on and happened and he couldn't help them . . . And this girl, Venda, she's a seer too, but she gets these horrible pains when she gets a vision, and she's blind and stays alone.' He frowned upon mentioning her, wishing that he himself had been able to help ease that pain; she was the first wolf he could not completely solve a problem for, and they were practically kin bonded by those powers! Like not being able to help out a wounded sister . . . 'Is there a reason why we can do this, this future-seeing, this mind reading stuff? Is there a reason we come to you and not just any other wolf? I wanna do good with this gift you gave me, sir, but sometimes I don't think I know nearly enough about it.'

. . . Aah, there was the flood of questions! Guess it was just hiding, waiting to be unplugged.

Newanti kept his countenance calm and receptive, though he couldn't help but privately express amusement over the questions. Some of the oldest questions in seerdom, indeed, and some of the hardest to explain.

"It is a kind of magic, Adam, but it's not spellweaving in the sense that we can make things happen to our advantage. Seers are gifted with the ability to concentrate and see what no one else can see because our bodies are able to work in a way that our focus can be so intense that it can pick up on things that any other wolf wouldn't be able to see. A bird speaking to you comes as real words because your mind can focus so intently that you can pick up language in what would sound like chirps or silence to another wolf. You don't realize it, but your mind is so highly tuned to this ability that you hardly have to think how to do it now that you have advanced in your powers." He smiled at that, because it was true the wolf before him was much improved in his abilities since the last time he came to visit.

"As for the reason why we do this," Newanti led in, changing the subject. "I don't know why we were given this ability. Maybe because gods above thought that the people need someone who can bridge the gap between wolf packs and between wolf and non-wolf brethren. I do not have answers for everything...especially why everyone chooses to come to me. I remember my mother saying once upon a time that she foresaw great things in my future when I was just a whelp. It is true that I am the only Omnus...the only shaman and seer combined gifted wolf...presently existing in this lands. I can unlock potential in almost any wolf if it's there. I make it easier to ascend to the ranks of the mind-blessed...so perhaps that's it."

Shiva had led him here. Otherwise, he would have never made it.

The pup was clear for the first time in many suns, his head felt new and just… bright. He had been so confused by a lot of things, and finally Shiva had told him about this place. They had been under a nearly-full moon and she had come out with it, in her own special way of speaking straight into his conscious. It was weird that she didn't need the words that normal wolves needed, and he was interested, yet frightened, to find that her mark on his brain felt like the whispers he had been getting in the caves, in his life.

Still in the comfort of the trees, the pup looked up. The stars were like pinpricks in the dark blanket of sky, another constant in this wide world. Rock felt cold, and a breeze ruffled the fur on his fluffy body, making him shiver once more. It was getting colder now, and there were rumors that the great expanse of water he lived near - the ocean - would just freeze over completely.

His paws rustled the brown leaves as he broke through the tree line without Shiva. She had insisted that it would be more respectful to stay back out of the way. This was his time, she had said. Upon seeing the soft glow of the hollow tree, he instantly felt calm, though his mouth hung open in awe of the giant silvery monument. He looked around for anyone else, having the feeling that he wouldn't be alone for very long. He wondered what types of wolves would come here, though figured they would be of all ages, from all walks of life, and smiled at the reality of how vast the world really was.

Rock approached the tree, but paused at what he hoped was a respectful distance. He trembled with a bit of fear and chilly wind and with the excitement of it all. What would come of him? What would his story hold after this meeting with, what Shiva had called, the Omnus? Would he ever be the same again?

Aleu was a long way from the place she called home, the place she so rarely left. And yet, she had decided to leave, for a reason unknown to her she let her paws guide her out past the packs border one morning. It had taken her days to get here, which left her days to think on what she was doing. There was no real explanation at this time, but perhaps now that her destination seemed to be coming into view the answers would come to her.

Paws slowed as the large oak came into view, it's silver glow acting like a beacon. She had never seen a tree like this before and doubted that she would find another. Eyes scanned the tree as she approached, bringing her paws to a stop a respectful distance away. There was a large cavern like hole in the tree, how very interesting. Did something dwell within? A soft humming escaped her, though she ensured to keep it quiet enough to not disturb any who may be in the area or the tree itself. Would others come as well or was she the only one? It would seem that for now she would need to wait and so Aleu sat upon her haunches, ready to wait out whatever was to come. Though her body was relaxed she did keep her ears open for any danger that could come her way, one could never be too careful when in an unknown place.

The pup chewed his lip as he watched the first of the wolves to appear in the area with him. The female was interesting to him, looked like she could be one of his family members... almost. The item around her neck was very interesting to him as well.

He wanted to introduce himself, the longing for any friend overcoming him nearly completely, but he stayed back and waited for her to find him. She was an adult, and though so far he knew more nice adults than bad ones, he was still frightened of the prospect of running into another wolf like his own mother.

Rock closed his eyes and took a breath, scenting anything he could on the wind. The crisp fall air tickled his nostrils and threatened to make him sneeze. He felt so alone when he looked up at the stars in the sky, and a quiet desperation came over his small heart, making him question everything. Were the 'gifts' of Shiva and Ket truth, or just silly pup's games? He wanted so badly to find out, for he believed so hard that there was something more out there than just himself.

Her eyes fell upon the pup. Had he arrived before she had or after? Aleu had been so taken by the sight of the tree that she had neglected to take a good look around the area until now. A smile crossed her maw, though her humming was not interrupted by it. Aleu always enjoyed the company of puppies, which was a very good thing given how many there were in YMCA. Perhaps one day she would have a litter of her own, especially now that her and Verse had gotten over the slump of admitting their feelings for each other.

"Hello little one, what is your name?" He voice was soft and melodic and Aleu hoped it would reassure the pup that she was no threat. "My name is Aleutian Ballad, but you can call me Aleu for short."

Rock turned his head to her when she spoke, realizing that she had noticed him. He wondered if he should simply go to her and talk to her, or just stay put. He didn't know the protocol for a place such as this, or if there even was one. If the Omnus was here for them all, then why would they be forbidden to speak to each other?

Her voice was melodic, and her name sounded simply musical to the pup's finely tuned ears. He loved any sounds that were rhythmic and had a beat to them that he could move to, and her name sounded like it would be that type of thing.

"My name is Rock." he answered obediently. Draka had unknowingly instilled a sense of respect for ones elders in the pup, and he practiced it daily. "That's a pretty name." he smiled and moved closer to where she was.

It reminded him of his best friend's sister, Adieu. Both names had the same sound, and he found that amusing. A smile came to his face instantly, and the pup warmed up a bit, becoming a twinge less anxious of the whole moonlit area.
