For train hopping, ya ********' idiot. Unless you want to stand around waiting for the right train illegally all day until you get picked up by the cops. I sure as ******** don't. Unless you don't live where there are trains. Under a rock somewhere, if I had to guess. I can't believe I gave you +1 troof credit. I take it back for 50% retail price and give it to Boots free of charge for droppin' knowledge.

Jungle Boots xChrisThePanda Jungle Boots my next big pvc adventure is to make bongo drums out of 8" diameter pvc piping and road kill raw hide. mmmhmmm.. dog skin. Do you know how to skin and tan animal hide? Sadly I've had to learn but I can give you some pointers if you need any? i might need pointers, never got around to finding a good enough recently dead animal with enough hide to streatch a drum head. but Squattheplanet.com has a thread dedicated to tanning hides and making rawhide. i never got to disect a frog in biology class so the prospect of cutting a dead animal open sounds rather exciting. From someone who has helped skin a squirrel it's not that exciting. Basically you cut from it's under side from neck to a** with scissors without going under the bottom layer of skin. You peel it back and then cut under the bottom layers and get rid of the organs. after that you have the bloody hide and what you do to tan it is leave it some place high up (away from scavenger animals and cats and dogs and whatnot) nailed to a piece of wood. When you nail it the hide should be stretched very taught, and then you pour iodized salt or fine sea salt on it and leave it in the sun for a few days.

i assume thats for rawhide, because tanning involves boiling in water and brian matter, or borax.
depending on if you want the hair to stay on the skin or not.

It depends on how long you put it in the sunlight After the first week it's a soft white leather-esque pelt after MANY weeks in full direct sunlight it gets very tanned and fried and then it's raw hide. anywhere in between it would make decent drum skin. Tanning with boiling water is a forced chemical reaction meant to speed up the process and I know nothing about it except for the fact that it's not totally necessary. Also for the first few days you have to keep re-salting it once every 24 hours and when you do you COVER it in salt.

You can try but it's probably better if you have something fine instead of coarse. Maybe you could crush the rock salt in a mortar and pestal.

Just saying if you can make your own sea salt it's free Also there are so many applications for sea salt specifically dissinfectant, cures animal hide, makes food tasty, good for watercolor painting and MANY other artistic effects in MANY other mediums. (I'm taking it that you aren't the water color type from what I've seen lol.)

Unless you're talking about them keeping it in a dry barrel (or other sealed container) and you stealing it from said barrel in large quantities then it's useless.
