"You've talked to me now, are you happy? I told you I didn't have to do down there." Hell said, buckling up his mask once again, and buckling his collar over that, to keep it in place. He felt his patch----three of the sides had come undone. He grimaced and pulled out a sewing needle and black thread, all he had on hand at the moment, and stitched it blindly, wincing from the pain. It had to be done, there's no gain without pain. Right?

Jez gave a little laugh. "Nice to see you two are getting along! Now, how about you bring the conversation down?" she asked, hoping that she wouldn't have to show her wings in order to rise up to meet them in the trees. Besides...she didn't want to leave Z alone in the fountain. He might disappear.

Z lie motionless on the edge of the fountain, staring up into the sky. He had been like this for the extent of the conversation, yet no one noticed.

"hmmm, does anyone else smell dead fish?" Hell asked, sniffing the air. He could smell himself again, he smelled like smoke with a faint hint of rotting flesh----the sulfur smell wore off after a couple days, and he'd been out of hell for nearly a month now. He still smelled rotting fish though, and it certainly wasn't him.

Jez frowned. "God Almight, what is that stench?" she asked, wrinkling her nose. "Oh God!" It smelled like dead fish--like Ireland when the drunks came out after midnight and fished and left their findings on the dock to be found in the morning. As she had lived, as a water faerie, near the dock, she remembered the smell well. "Who's been fishing?" she inquired.

Z rolled off into the fountain. Even while floating face-first in the water, Z was still not moving.

"Jesus Christ!" Jez exclaimed. "Holy crap, Z, are you okay?" She turned to the man, who was floating face-down in the water. "Oh, Jesus." She looked up, tears in her eyes. "Guys, come help me with him. I can't pick him up by myself. Z, c'mon," she urged, gently, trying to be helpful and yet too horrified to be at the same time. "C'mon, Z, get up, talk to me, say something! For God's sake! Anybody know CPR?"

Z sprung up out of the water, coughing and gasping for breath. "Damnit!" Z panted, actually speaking for once. "It happened again. How long was I gone?" Z asked.

"Long enough to smell you," Hell said. Which considering the heat and the sun, wouldn't have taken long at all.

Pearl frowned, and hopped off the tree. "Why did you fall in the water?"

Leonard had some headphones plugged into his ear. He hadn't noticed, or maybe he just didn't care about the other people in the town square. He needed to go somewhere and this was the place to be. As he walked, his hands were moving as if he was holding onto a guitar. Bobbing his head to the music, he bit his lower lip and went all out when the music must have hit a guitar solo. Doing a turn around, he lip sung to the song. It could barely be heard, but when it hit the chorus for those who knew the type of music, they'd instantly know the song. "Here I am! Brought you like a hurricane!" He repeated a few times until the song was over with. Ending it with, "Here I am!"

"About...I don't know, five minutes?" Jez asked, frustated and shocked and scared. "What the hell happened to you? Why did you pass out? Why did you smell like dead fish? And why on earth are you actually speaking?" She felt as though she were asking too many questions for his brain to process at once, but she was too damn frightened to give a damn. "God, Z, you scared me to death!" She had no idea why on earth she was so freaked out--after all, nearly the same thing had happened to Hell, except without the fishy smell and the obvious fact that Z was used to this happening--but she was and she was not going to stop freaking out until her questions were answered and her brain calmed.
She turned to Him. "There was a malfunction," She told Him. "Again. Why is this happening in the same place...twice?" He shook His head, weary and frustrated. "Don't know."

Pearl watched the group quietly, standing near the trunk of the tree.
