Well, why NOT follow a storyline of a fighting game? Especially when it's presented in a coherent, linear, cutscene by cutscene manner? It's one of the best things about the Def Jam fighters.

Because I'm not interested in the storyline of a fighting game?

Oh sh*t, are we talking about the Def Jam fighting games? I f*cking LOVE Fight for N.Y.! I wish Aki had gotten to do the follow-up.
I can't believe they didn't f*cking make that compatible with the 360. F*cking Barbe Horse Adventures is compatible but not friggin' Fight For N.Y.?

What's the difference what genre of a game it is? kenshiro28 Oh sh*t, are we talking about the Def Jam fighting games? I f*cking LOVE Fight for N.Y.! See? Exactly! Wasn't the story mode just awesome in that game? Hell yes, it was!

Because I tend to get more involved in the stories of games in certain genres than I do in others.
Like, I play RPGs for the story whereas I play Action-Adventure games for the combination of the story and gameplay. Every other game I pretty much just play it for the gameplay...For the most part. I will make exceptions sometimes, but not with fighting games...Never had, and never felt the need to.

Well, by making it a rule, you're castrating yourself. You gotta be more open minded.
That's like if I said, "I don't play first person shooters." Which I don't. But if I didn't open my mind a little bit, I probably would've never discovered Fallout 3, or enjoyed games like Resistance.

Wasn't the story mode just awesome in that game? Hell yes, it was! I really liked that the plot wasn't really over-bearing or anything and was relatively simple but still had some nice twists. The fact that the main character is a fully voiced custom character is a bonus. I am super proud of my super wigger to this day and I can't imagine making anyone like that ever again.

My guy kept turning out to look like a Mexican. I swear, every time I built a character, he looked like B-Real of Cypress Hill. Actually, I also liked Def Jam: ICON. That game is so underrated. The storyline was cool, the character creation mode was a hundred times better than FFNY... The gameplay wasn't AS good, but still, it wasn't bad.

Well, I'm open to any game genre out there, so it's not exactly like you put in your quotes. But in saying that, why should I open myself up to something I know I won't like, such as the story of a fighting game? I know what I like, so I know I don't need to explore anymore, seeing as how I've done all the exploring I needed to to know what I like.

What are these fighting games with bad storylines that ruined it for you? Shaq Fu?

Nope. I simply just don't like the plots of fighting games...And like I said, it's simply just because I don't care about the plot of a fighting game. Just lemmee fight, dammit!

Well, that's a weird generalization. You can't not like something until you've experienced it.
Besides, if the new Mortal Kombat is anything like MK vs. DC, then you'll have to beat the Story Mode to unlock Shao Kahn as a playable fighter. So you be sure to enjoy that.

Yet, you somehow don't like RE5... mrgreen p.s. I skip cutscenes. I also kick kitties, but that's besides the point. p.p.s. Just kidding. I fuc*ing love kitties. They're just so God damn cute.
