Born a sacrifice in the Mizimu. As a child, she dreamed of war... but instead was pushed towards servitude. When she discovered that her family had been captured by the Mizimu several generations prior, Petra reacted poorly. She left the pride, and her sister, joining the dhati and pledging her loyalty to their cause. Before the war could begin however, she was caught in a trap by her sister, who claimed to want to join the Dhati side. Petra was forced to chose between her freedom and her sister's life- and reluctantly, she chose Una. Instead of fighting in the war against the Mizimu, she was forced to fight against the Dhati.
When the war was over, Petra was sentenced to be a slave underneath her sister, Una. But the pride never fully recovered from the Dhati rebellion. As the pride slowly fell into decline, Petra fled. Spirit broken, she found herself on the shores of the Kizingo'zaa, who were in their own stage of recovery. Feeling she could slip away with the wild gypsies, Petra absorbed herself into their pride and took the name Phoenix.
Although finally free, Petra feels a sense of guilt and regret over her actions during the war. She doesn't talk much about her past, and occasionally gets into intense depressive states. She is good friends with Bell, oddly enough.
