Candace blushed, nervousness from Aria mentioning she needed to learn kicking in. That was true. As a Hunter she could help with training the trainees, right? Or she could be used to lead missions. "That's true. And who better to get tips on leading from than my leader?" She smiled, feeling slightly more confident as she ventured up the stairs. She stopped, suddenly turning her head to stare at Aria in shock.

"...You have food?"

Stop the presses.

Shut. Down. Everything.

Aria had food. Aria had real ******** food that wasn't an MRE or questionable coffee.

They had to get to her room now. They had to. Candace's stomach rumbled quietly just at the thought, the very implication that maybe she could possibly have some of Aria's food. ******** MREs, man. She was sick of them.

She continued up the stairs with a newfound fervor. She had a ******** goal now.

Despite that she did still hang on to Aria's every word. So she had a lot of solitary training. No wonder she felt so underconfident about her own leadership abilities...she was so used to being alone. Candace smiled, opening her mouth to say something about that until Aria continued. Ah, okay. She didn't want to steal someone's room, then. "I'll wait until it's all cleared up, then." Candace said with a smile.

Candace reached the top of the stairs, immediately cursing and jumping down several steps again just as a massive fog creature came barreling into view and slammed into the wall beside the staircase.

Aria bit down the retort that threatened to surge forward. She wasn't leadership material. Hell, how many Mists even knew her name? What she looked like? That they even had a leader? Aria was more of a supporter than leader, and when she wasn't leading she was often striking out on her own. Candace would have been better off learning leadership from someone else, and yet Aria was loathe to recommend anyone. After all, Candace was her trainee, and her responsibility.

The division leader gave Candace a smug smile at her shocked stare and question. "Of course. What do you expect? The MRE's are good enough in a pinch, but after awhile..." She shook her head. "Most of what I have stocked up was made to last, but -" she paused, her grin growing as Candace seemed to pick up the pace. "I guess I can feed you once we get there."

She fell into silence, thinking. Now what? Aria was scrambling for any semblance of a conversation topic when Candace jumped back, dodging the creature that emerged out of the fog. The hunter stepped around the trainee until she was in the clear, shooting the insanity creature at point-blank range.

Needless to say, it collapsed into an ashy-fog and vanished. "Well," Aria began conversationally, "I guess it can't hurt to peek into some of the open rooms if you're curious as to what they look like. Could even start planning for what sort of additions you want. When you're a hunter, you're authorized to modify your dorm... but you'd better be happy with the one you pick before you start tearing it apart. You might be living in it for awhile."

"A fed trainee is a happy trainee." That was unfortunately all Candace really had time to say before she'd been attacked. Thankfully it missed her, and Aria was quick to kill the damn thing.

How many of these things were there?! God! She was so glad Aria was quick to act. Soooo glad. Candace sighed with relief and smiled up at the woman. "Thanks for that. It surprised me." This time she was more cautious about going up those last few steps, pressing back against the wall and peeking around. She frowned. This...hardly felt safe. It was like in a horror movie where someone would peek their head out and BOOM! Head shot.

"...I..I think I'm going to start carrying a compact mirror for looking around corners." Candace cleared her throat, looking to Aria with a small smile. "After that last one it doesn't seem very smart to stick something as vulnerable as my head out when I don't know what's on the other side, huh?" But the hall was clear...for now. Candace stepped out into it, looking around with a frown now. Nothing yet.

"Awhile?" Candace blinked, already curiously trying doors to find one that was still unlocked. Unlocked either meant the hunter just didn't lock it or it had no occupant, right? "Barring promotion to leader.." Candace chuckled and shook her head at that. Yeah, right. Like she'd want to take Aria's place. No, she could never do that. Candace loved being in any position of power, but she could never do that to Aria. She tried a few more doors. Locked. Locked...and..locked. "Pretty sure it'll be my room for the rest of my life. I have no interest in a house when it's safer to be here, and with my current relationship track record I don't see myself moving into someone else's room anytime in my near future." She shrugged, trying one more door. The handle clicked and the door opened.

"Success!" She gestured to the door. "I think it'd be best for lady with the flaming gun to go in first."

The response to the mention of food brought an understanding grin to Aria's face. She didn't shake her head or make a condescending joke. When she was a trainee she experienced a situation very similar to Candace's, however Aria highly doubted Candace ever had to catch her own food. Now those days... sucked in all honesty. But Aria wouldn't trade them for the world.

"Just doing what needs to be done," Aria replied with a shrug. "You're lucky your weapon doesn't have a trigger. It's too easy to develop a trigger finger and shoot first, ask questions later. With luck another hunter won't try to get the jump on us." Aria remarked as she waited for Candace to peek around the corner.

When Candace made the suggestion, Aria nodded. "Useful, but be careful not to let the reflection give your position away. It'd also help out against certain monsters too." Aria followed Candace out, pausing long enough to gaze up and down the hallway. The fog seemed to be a bit thicker here than down below; surely they would change that once they began attacking things.

Candace's remark regarding promotion to leader brought her a curious, unreadable look from Aria. She didn't say anything, and turned her attention to the hallway as Candace continued to try different doors. "The houses are a bit of a ways out from Deus, aren't they?" Aria began thoughtfully. "More dangerous, but they're also a bit more private. Hmm..."

At the invitation, Aria motioned Candace to step back. Once she was out of the way, Aria kicked the door the rest of the way open and held her flamethrower level, the tip of it sweeping the room quickly in preparation to be fired.

Candace looked toward Aria as she began to comment o houses. "They've got more space, too." But space was what you made of it, really. Just one person in a big house? That was a bit much. Candace didn't like it. She'd stick with apartment life. She had no idea what was going on in Aria's head in that moment, simply following close behind her as she kicked the door in.

She peeked around her, waiting for the woman to clear the door.

She heard it coming, looking up and ducking under Aria's arms to get at her other side. "LOOK OUT!" Candace gave it a hard kick back, getting it away from Aria before it could touch her. It clawed her leg as it fell back; nothing serious but it was enough to leave three long scratches down her shin.

For Aria, space was an option. She didn't need that much; hell, she barely spent that much time in her own room. As a trainee, if she wasn't reading and studying in the library she was out on the training fields, shadowing another hunter, or on mission. Division leader? Library, office, mission. Dorm was only for eating, sleeping, and taking a shower. Social life? Something known about, regarded with curiosity, then ultimately set aside. It wasn't something for her.

But space meant privacy. Quiet. And yet --

Thoughts aside, Aria twisted towards the creature with her gun raised, firing once Candace was cleared. One pull of the trigger was more than enough. Aria lowered her weapon, shaking her head at Candace. "I was under the impression that the point of going in first was to, I don't know, maybe be the first one to attack?" She chided gently, shaking her head. "Good tactic for whenever you stand in for a Moon, though you should be a bit more careful."

Ha! Dead as a doornail. Candace was grinning until Aria pointed out her mistake. Oh. <********>. Right. She groaned and pressed the palm of her hand against her face, cursing under her breath. ********! Right! Lady with the fire goes in first to risk not getting hit by it. Right. "Right! Right. Sorry. I wasn't...sorry. Won't happen again." She frowned, rubbing the back of her neck and looking around the room they were in. It appeared to be a sitting room with a doorway to..a kitchen? Hmm. Candace didn't need a kitchen. She wasn't much of a cook at all. "I'll be more careful." She promised, stopping to look down at her leg. It wasn't terrible, it'd heal. The wound was superficial. Candace tugged her scarf off to wipe at the small amount of blood that had dripped down her leg.

Draping the scarf over her shoulders again, Candace stepped further into the room. Minimal furniture? Well, her own dorm had come with the basics.. "So we can do anything we want to these rooms after we've moved into one?" Within reason, she was sure. Like...whatever their own personal funds would allow. Candace wandered toward the kitchen, peeking through the entrance.

She didn't find anything of note at first, not until she actually stepped in and turned.

"..U-um...Aria..?" Candace called out, backing out of the kitchen again. The tablet cracked. "There's a body in here and--oh damnit!" She hissed, turning on her heel to bolt into the room. She didn't want to fight a monster in a small kitchen. It followed her out, practically floating.

Candace's apologies were met with a dismissal wave. "So long as you remember," she said simply, "Otherwise you might learn the hard way at some point. Let the Moons be the shields. You..." Her gaze flickered down, glancing at the trickle of blood. "Hm."

She didn't say anything more, turning her attention to the room while Candace examined her wound. The kitchen drew a curious look. To Aria, the hunter rooms were still rather small. They were certainly larger than the trainee's, and yet... Aria was, without a doubt, spoiled by the size and luxuries that came with her own room on the next floor up.

The room was dismissed as she moved towards the door, stopping to glance back as Candace asked a question. "Within reason," she answered. "And it'll come out of your own paycheck. I'm not sure if they come modeled or not -- the Moon division might practice dismantling things when a hunter room becomes available. I've seen some of them revert rooms to their previous state before someone else moves on." She shrugged.

Aria's attention was caught once Candace mentioned the body. "s**t!" Aria darted forward and grabbed Candace, pulling the trainee behind her while raising her flamethrower and firing.

She squeaked as she was grabbed, nearly tripping over her own feet but catching herself. Candace obediently stayed behind Aria, waiting for the flames to dissipate. It apparently didn't take long. Atropos was whining. She wanted to use the charge that had been building up within her, the one that Candace didn't want to waste on weak creatures.

Now was as good a time as any, she supposed.

"Watch out.." Candace muttered to Aria as she ducked around her. Atropos' gems flared a bright light as Candace quickly grabbed hold of a piece of stable furniture. The sofa would do. She pulled herself up, bringing a leg around to kick it over the couch. It landed in the middle of the room and she followed, landing on one of its legs and turning on the ball of her foot. The next hit was a strike to its middle as she practically danced over it, hopping from one foot to the other with kicks and stomps. She stopped at its head, about to give what she had hoped would be a killing blow until a smoky tendril grabbed her ankle and sent her to the floor. She yelped, grunting as she hit the floor. The creature lifted itself off the floor and loomed over Candace.

Candace~. I still have one more in me. Atropos purred delightedly. Candace grinned. Good.

She moved her hands to press her palms on the floor on either side of her head, her elbows bent and read as she suddenly rolled her body back, lifting her legs and lower half into the air. Atropos' blades connected with the creature's belly and pushed it away from her, though she kept going to land on her feet again. Candace panted, grinning excitedly as she slowly rose to her feet.

That felt awesome.

"That..that doesn't usually work..!" Candace laughed, backing away from the creature. "Go ahead and hit it, ma'am." She'd use it as a sort of foggy shield, keeping its attention on her while keeping it between herself and Aria.

Aria didn't wait for Candace to speak. As soon as the trainee was in the clear, Aria had already moved forward and snapped her own weapon up, pulling the trigger to bathe the creature in fire. She side-stepped, holding the gun steady before cutting it off and snapping the weapon up. Aria's movements took her further into the room, ignoring the sulk her own weapon was giving her.

Not enough room and I'm not interested in wrecking the dorms.

"Yes, ma'am!" Candace called out, waiting for the fire to calm before jumping in to strike at it. It smacked her shoulder, the one that had slammed against the wall earlier downstairs, and she stumbled back with a hiss. ********. That hurt.

Aria pulled back, moving to another place to get into position while Candace struck. A runic? A runic wha--gah! Candace ducked under another strike from the creature, though she still got slapped with a flaming hand.

Candace refused to let this thing go.

One more kick had it exploding into mist and the fog appeared clearer. It wasn't perfect, but it was better. Candace sighed, rubbing the shoulder that it had slammed its fist against. Ow. "Well that was annoying. I think I've seen enough of this room." She definitely wouldn't pick this one.

Aria lowered her flamethrower as Candace kicked the creature out of existence, sighing and shaking her head. "I'll meet you in a few. Give me a second, okay?" She gave a small wave to the trainee as she moved further into the apartment, entering the kitchen. She didn't look to see if Candace followed her or not.

The body was easy to find. Aria placed her weapon aside as she rolled the corpse over, reaching out to close the unseeing eyelids before her fingers fluttered over the corpse. She examined the contents of the hunter's pockets quickly, pocketing the wallet she found. Everything else she left alone.

With that accomplished, Aria rose and washed her gloved hands briskly before picking her weapon up again, rejoining Candace outside the room. Aria pulled the door shut quickly behind her. "Well. Let's be off," she said briskly, nodding towards the next set of stairs. "Any other place you'd like to check out before we move on?"
