She looked to the ground within split seconds of sensing the energy and saw that the ground was becoming tainted. 'This isn't good...' Akari thought to herself as she saw the tainted ground spreading rapidly. "We have to stop the ground from getting worse... otherwise, it could spread to other areas as well." she said as she started to cast a rejuvenation spell on the ground, stopping the ground from getting any worse than it already was. gaia_nitemareright

gaia_nitemareleft "Damn it, Edmond... why did you follow me when I had asked you not to?" Akari said as she concentrated on the rejuvenation spell. She knew she wouldn't be able to sustain the spell much longer, so she either needed more energy or she would have to get Edmond and War out of the area. "I can't sustain this spell much longer... I'm going to need help if we're going to find and eliminate the source of this shadow energy. I'll try to find the source and destroy it... but someone needs to sustain the spell long enough to keep it from spreading to other areas before the source is destroyed." Akari said in a serious tone. She knew she would be risking her life in this task, but she didn't have much of a choice since the world was being threatened yet again. gaia_nitemareright

gaia_nitemareleft Akari saw War stab his blade into the ground and release a healing aura to reverse the effects of the corruption. She kneeled in weakness and released the spell, for the spell drained her energy. At least the corruption was staying at bay for now with War's healing aura active. "Damn it... I'm not so strong with healing spells..." Akari said in a low voice, trying to regain her energy quickly before the corruption would spread again. gaia_nitemareright

gaia_nitemareleft Akari caught the orb and looked at it with curiosity. As she was regaining her energy, she sensed that the presence was rapidly heading straight for them. Akari could see exactly what was causing the problem now. It was Kumiko trying to break the seal that Akari cast on the Darkness. Given that Kumiko was a demon, there was no way to save her unless Akari could remind her of her old self, which might not work since she was stuck this way since they were 3 years old. It was the only chance Akari had at saving Kumiko from total corruption. She stood and walked toward Kumiko. "Edmond and War... stay back. I must deal with this alone." Akari said to them as she gave the orb back to Edmond and kept walking forward toward Kumiko, who had stopped in front of her with her blade drawn. "Kumiko, stop this insanity... I'm certain you remember me. But if you don't, then I'll remind you..." she said as she touched Kumiko's hand and tried to let her see some of the memories they had together. gaia_nitemareright

gaia_star Kumiko immediately pulled her hand away and raised her blade to Akari. "I'm not your friend anymore, Akari... the Kumiko you once knew is now under the control of the demon that possesses her now. The only way to get to her is through me and I won't go down without a fight." she said, smiling at the thought of what she might do next. If she attacked, she might lose Kumiko completely. If she didn't, she would risk losing her life. Kumiko just smiled at this, knowing she won't be able to find an easy way out of this sticky situation. gaia_star

gaia_nitemareleft "It's too risky, War... I don't want to hurt her, but I can't allow her to stay a demon forever. I'm going to have to fight her." Akari said as she unsheathed her blade and let it become emblazoned, then she activated her Fiery Shadow aura and swiftly slashed at Kumiko's blade. This slash would get Kumiko's blade away from her neck while Akari parried with her other slashes, seemingly in perfect sync. That was her plan: fight like old times so that Kumiko would remember her past. "Just like old times... right, Kumiko?" she said as she swiftly ran behind Kumiko and restrained her on the ground, just like old times. gaia_nitemareright

gaia_star Kumiko parried with Akari for a while until she felt herself being restrained on the ground, just like Akari used to do when they sparred. Black smoke started to emanate from her as she was being restrained and she returned to her human form, knocking her unconscious for a few moments. When she awoke, Akari was sitting next to her, watching her every move. "What happened...? Why am I here?" Kumiko asked Akari. She appeared to have blacked out when she changed, but she remembered Akari now and she would never forget her no matter what happened. gaia_star

gaia_nitemareleft "You gave in to your demon blood a long time ago, Kumiko... but at least now you're safe." Akari said with a smile as she stood and helped Kumiko to her feet. "Follow us, Kumiko... the war between Light and Darkness should be over by now, although I fear another war coming..." Akari, seeing the tainted ground already back to normal as she revealed her wings and shielded Kumiko from the sunlight as they walked to the Vampire's Covenant. gaia_nitemareright
