He tugged the shirt the rest of the way down over his stomach and smoothed it out over his chest. The words Death Mother written over his chest. "Yeah. Thanks."

Rin smiled, as she gestured at the bag that awaited him. She almost wanted to see how far a gloved hand would get her... but he might figure out what she was up t and get mad... so she didn't, nothing, not yet. So food Melvin, okay.

Putting on his glasses, he then reached for the bag, setting it on his lap and opening it. Now what did Rin bring him?

Rin brought him a hot toasted sub sandwich with a couple juice boxes. It was clear she created the sandwich herself with a variety of sliced meats and cheeses and a peppery sauce as well as sliced jalapenos. She was staring intently. Quite proud of her handiwork.

Melvin removed the juice boxes to sit beside him and then set the sandwich on the paper bag on his lap. Removing the wrapper, he noticed it wasn't like the sandwiches you just asked the servers for and had been made. There was too much detail and care into just being made in batches that morning and set out so that the bread got either soggy or really stale and hard. The sandwich was fresh.
He glanced over at her. "Did - you make this?"

Rin nodded excitedly, "Yes, go on. Try it. Tell me if it's any good." She was watching with a steady smile.

He liked to know where his food came from and who made it. There were a few workers doing cafeteria duty that looked sleazy and that he never ate from. Rin wasn't, and the sandwich had been made fresh, wrapped........then there was that new glove.
Slowly, he looked back down at the sandwich and took a bite, chewing a moment before taking one of the napkins that she had brought with the food and wiping his mouth. "It's.." He finished swallowing. "...really good. Thanks." He went for one of the juice boxes and set the sandwich down to open it before taking a drink. "You didn't have to make it, you know?" Though he appreciated that she didn't give him some old sandwich.

"Pfft, I'm just glad you're not disappointed I didn't like get you something hotter. Like a cooked slab of meat or something. But I'm not good at anything serious like that. Just sandwiches." She shrugged a shoulder and settled into her seat more comfortably. "But, I'm glad you seem to like it." She glanced at his pillows and what seemed to be a small dark bit of a tail spade sticking out. She didn't rightly understand why he would hide Allan. He'd already told her all about him.
She couldn't help but ask in the end, "Why is Allan hiding?"

He went back to eating when Rin asked about Allan, making the Life hunter stop and glance at his pillow. "Oh. Well..." He glanced at the door. "...I don't want all the nurses and doctors thinking I sleep with a teddy bear or something. I do work here when I'm not in the labs." He went back to eating with a bit more focus than before.

"But Allan's not a...," Rin grunted noncommittally before bringing back her smile again though it seemed off. She quietly waited for him to finish his meal.

He wasn't so much, but if any guy had a plushie, it didn't do much to help to gain any respect among your peers. Even kids in elementary school knew that much.
He finished his sandwich, savoring but not being slow as he was, not that he took a bite, more hungry than he realized. 2 juice boxes and a delicious sandwich later, he cleaned up and got up to throw the trash out into a bin and then went to wash his hands. His gloves had been dirty from the mission and were now in his jacket. He forgot to tell Rin to pick up a few pairs for him from his room, but he could make due for a short while.
Drying his hands on a paper towel, he tossed it away before moving over. "Thanks for lunch. It was really good. I could get used to being injured if you keep that up."

"Nuh uh, we have too much to do for you to play wounded soldier for longer than necessary. Christmas is right around the corner," there was a curious little smile curled across her lips. She knew so much more now, it was like, finally understanding some things rather than feeling clueless and constantly kept out of the loop. But at the same time, she could not let him in on this fact. Was there a reason he hid such things? She knew, but she didn't fully understand yet.

He sat back down on the bed, moving the juice boxes aside to slowly ease back and lay down across the bed. "I'd complain that everyone else gets to do it, but even I want to get off this rock. Four months here feels like an eternity." He'd only been here that long after all. "If I have to limp to a portal, I will."
He glanced up to stare at her back. "You'll have to show me the best shopping place to go. I'll have to make a list. Still don't even know what to get everyone." He really wasn't sure who he should even give a gift too considering he met people but wasn't friends with most of them.

"It's been longer than four months," Rin sighed with a subtle awe, it really has been a long time. Almost a year now for her even. She offered a slightly warmer smile. At least he arrived at a good enough time for holidays. Time to get to know people and time to share it with them. The nosy s**t.
"I don't honestly know. We can go anywhere in the world for shopping. I think it depends on what sort of gifts you want and for which people. Like. Um." Melvin's little list made it difficult to decide who were his friends right now, it seemed like no one was his friend so much as viewed as an opponent.
"You can't go wrong with getting everyone you don't know chocolate? Or booze." Her smile broadened, "Or booze chocolate."
