[c] I’m more balanced than a breakfast in a cereal commercial! The plank, it is!
It seemed that the next task was to cross the 'lava', and the boy pondered the three paths that he could possibly take. He could jump, though he didn't think that he'd be able to make it all the way across, or he could try to cross the monkey bars,, or cross the slippery plank.
Hard decision, but one that Ian Davis made fairly quickly. He was light, he was quick, and it would be far more fun to fall into the mud from the beam than it would be from just jumping across.
He grinned brightly, and then darted across the plank. If he was going to fail, he was going to fail, but he was going to have fun while doing it!

Sade Mistiltan muttered as she walked off the field. She was Using the bandages she picked up despite the fact she was out, it was impractical anyways she didn't like these charity events as she made sure the paint stains were covered as well as could be as she walked off.
This wasn't her style anyways. She left with her head held high despite her hurt pride. After all, since she lost she planned on treating herself to a small ice cream cone and a shopping spree.
((Sade's just making use of those bandages to try and hide her shammee as she leaves.))

"Shiiiiiiiii--" The curse left his lips even as he felt the paint splatter across his chest. He had managed to get his shirt halfway down his shorts before he and the material were covered in various colors of paint. At least he had managed to close his eyes in time to keep them safe and the dark haired young man quickly scowled at the ones who had "killed" him. Oh well, at least he could go change, wash off, then take a nap in his car for the rest of the afternoon. In fact, that sounded rather blissful. So Ianto dropped his water bottle and energy bar, tossed his shirt on the ground, and left, not really caring what happened after this. It was nap time.
(( Good luck everyone! ))

Leo was glad to make it past the paint section, whipping off his spaceman blanket once he was clear. He was towards the middle of the pack, and while it meant he was in the lead, it did mean he had a good view of some nice backsides. Then there came mud, which he couldn’t claim to be a fan of, but fit, taut bodies swinging from ropes? Yeah, Leo was just fine with that.
“ Lookin’ good there Ms. Tarzan.” He called to Delilah, giving her a grin and exaggerated eyebrow waggle.
Pretty young things aside, there was still the matter of getting across the mud. He was strong, but he didn’t want to entrust his chances purely to his ability to imitate a monkey. However, counting on his balance, sober though he was, didn’t seem much better. But if Leo was good at one thing, it was thinking of shortcuts, cheats, and loopholes, and his handy-dandy space blanket just so happened to be scrunchable and smooth. He quickly twisted it into a sort of loose wrap, the threw one end over a rope and pulled until he could hold both ends in one hand. Then he started to walk across the plank, one hand firmly grasping his blanket and sliding it along with him just in case.

Elalinde slowed her pace slightly once out of paint range and panted softly from exhilaration. Whatever happened, this was fun! And since it was a marathon, she didn't have to worry about trying to use speed to win. As such, she slowed enough to really take in the next obstacle as she came to it. So... ropes, plank or trusting to luck and jumping.
The idea of running and jumping didn't appeal. What if she slipped like those guys on MXC and fell backwards into the mud? And while the ropes looked safe enough, she didn't relish the idea of hanging about and swinging. No, in this case, the plank was likely her best bet. Yeah, it looked slippery, but nothign said she had to race across. She could take her time and be careful.
With that thought, she loosely knotted her blanket about her waist and approached the plank bridge. Moving carefully (and gracefully, of course), she stepped out onto the board, letting herself test each step. Really, it was either that or sitting on the damned thing and doing an odd sort of butt-scoot/crab walk. And the more she thought, the more the latter choice sounded like hella fun.
Dropping to all fours, she carefully got her legs in front of her and her arms behind and began the Crabby Butt Scoot. Dignity be damned, she was having fun.

PROMPT FOUR - UP AND OVER Probably one of the best things to witness, that the coordinators would be talking about for days, was watching the splash come out of the ‘lava pit’ when people tried to simply run and jump over it. Though it would also be argued that people falling from the ropes above was also as interesting a spectacle. Unfortunately for those without bandaged hands there was no way to avoid the pain of the incredibly rough rope and halfway through, it got to be too much, competitors dropping into the ‘lava’ to nurse bleeding hands.
To those bastions of balance, congratulations! That board was a whole lot more solid than it looked and if you took the time to put one foot cautiously in front of the other it definitely paid off. You are lava-free, continuing on towards victory!
Not left peering up to see when they will be rescued from the lava are:
Boaz Crawford Mathias White Madelyn Caspian Destiny Kent Ernest Ritter Dennis Terry Ian Davis Leo Torres Elalinde Pope
The remaining competitors don’t get very far before something starts to loom overhead, as man-made as it will be frustrating. Blocking the path is a giant wall that looks to be made almost entirely of compacted dirt and mud, unable to be walked around or disregarded in any way. At first glance it looks as if you’ll have to ascend the steep slope with nothing but athleticism and ingenuity, until sharp eyes notice that there seem to be small rocks anchored into the muck, finger-holes in each one. It also seems like if you go straight up the middle, as fast as you can, you might be able to make it...
Do you: [a]Try to jump straight up and grab the top, maybe you can swing your legs over - or spill over the top headfirst. Charge up the center like a raging bull, because you’re strong like bull! What are walls?? [c] Try to make it to the hand-holds, using them to help pull yourself through the mire, because speed doesn’t matter.

Delilah had really thought that she would make it on the ropes, that no matter how bad it got she would hang on, but unfortunately that was not to be. She managed to flash a smile at the boy that flirted with her, but soon after her grip was slackening and she was sliding off the rope, ending up butt-first in the mud.
"Oh, damn it," she swore quietly, slowly pushing herself up. The stuff was clinging and sticky, and definitely in her hair and on her legs and her everything. And this was definitely not the type of mud that was good for the skin. Nope, just the gross, dirty kind that took forever to get off.
She was going to need so many showers when she got home...

Once again, Madelyn's intuition (or luck, rather) spared her from a very filthy elimination, and she couldn't help but pity the ones that fell in. Part of her wanted to go back and help them up, but she was certain that her kindness wouldn't have been rewarded (and you never know when the paint ball guns would return). It was a dog-eat-dog world, and Madelyn would prove that she could run with the big dogs, even if it meant to abandon the ones in the mud.
"Well, it's just mud... they'll be alright..." Madelyn Caspian thought to herself, pushing them to the far end of her mind as she approached her next obstacle. Now this seemed troublesome! A wall to climb, and Madelyn couldn't believe her luck to have grabbed the bungee cord at the beginning of this mad race! It seemed like the most obvious answer to this problem, but the grooves in the wall seemed like another obvious answer. A little too obvious, as Madelyn was immediately suspicious of it. 'Others might go for that one too, which means competition, and people pushing or shoving...'
At least she had her bungee cord still wrapped around her waist, so if someone tried to push her off, she wouldn't go too far. "Wouldn't have given me this if I wasn't meant to use it!"
She threw the other end of her cord to the top of the wall and tried to anchor it down, and then, with all of her speed, she ran straight up the middle. She knew she couldn't jump that high up and while the hand-holds seemed safer, she suspected that a lot of people would be clamoring for them and it'd slow her down. After all, this was a race, right? "Here goes nothing!"

There wasn't really much time to celebrate since the race was still on-going so Boaz settled for a grin at his own progress before pressing on again, only allowing himself to come to a complete stop when he arrived at the next challenge. A gigantic wall that participants were expected to get themselves across no matter what.
The straightforward way would be to pick a spot to sprint towards and see if he could grab the top to attempt to pull himself up, but he didn't quite trust his own physical ability with the mostly sedentary lifestyle he was subjected to as a result of his job. Plus he wasn't quite sure if the wall was built sturdy enough to withstand his own weight in addition to the many others who would be attempting to scale it at the same time.
Just as he was about to fret over how he was going to go about this, ceruleans caught the glint of something embedded in the mud wall and that was when, on closer inspection, he realized that they were small rocks albeit with finger-holes cut into them which could probably be used for climbing. Well, it wasn't as if he had any other bright ideas for the moment so he might as well go for it. Taking a moment to stuff his water and energy bar pack into his shorts in order to free up his hand, he wiped his palms on his butt then began to make his ascend.

Whew! Destiny breathed in a sigh of relief as she made it across the ropes. Many didn't and had to fall into the "lava." She thanked her lucky stars for the bandages she had and kept them on her hands for further use of grip. As she moved forward she told herself that this was why she entered this contest. She'd made it through two events and if she was eliminated now she could consider herself better than most of the field.
The wall loomed overhead and she looked dubiously at the mud it was constructed from. Mud, by nature, was a slippery thing. When she spotted the handholds she grinned to herself. Sure this was a race but only in that people were moving together toward a common goal. She could sprint in the end. Right now it was the smart that made it through and speed could suffer for it.
She moved over to the handholds and tested them a little, putting weight on and then started to ascend as best she could. She wasn't one of those wall climbing gym people but, meh, she could manage.

The board was surprisingly sturdy, and was much less slippery than Ian Davis had expected. He had crossed it with ease, and then had moved on, jogging until they reached the next challenge. All of the challenges were killing his stride, as he kept having to pause, but they were fun.
This next one was no different.
He stared up at the giant wall, built so that the competitors couldn't weasel their way around it. It seemed that the obvious way was to just attempt to run up it, which some people were, but as he looked closer, it seemed as if there were smallish rocks sticking out of it.
Kind of like the ones at the indoor rock climbing courses.
That was going to have to be his path, as he didn't think he'd be able to get enough momentum to push himself up. He squeezed in close to the wall, and then began to scale it, using the handholds to pull himself up the wall, one small step at a time. It might be time consuming, but there'd be another challenge coming up and it was likely he'd be able to catch up there so he wasn't all that concerned.
Assuming he could reach the top to begin with.

It was touch and go there as Ernest crossed the 'lava' but unlike quite a few of his competitors he did make it across unscathed. Another moment was all it took to grab his two bungee cords and head off down the track. It wasn't long before he reached the next obstacle in the form of a dirt wall. Jumping was not a choice and he wasn't sure if he could just charge up the wall but as he got closer he spotted the handholds and couldn't help the smile spreading across his face. A quick adjustment with the bungee cords had the two hook heads positioned in his hands like claws and he began to scale the wall. When a handhold was not available he made his own, the cords were rather useful and he did not yet regret grabbing them in the beginning of the race. However he knew if he made it over the wall he would have to speed up and take more risks because he wanted to win, not just cross the finish.

Dennis Terry looked at the wall as he approached it, frowning thoughtfully. He could try to climb up it, but that seemed slow and dangerous, leaving them open to any sort of attack as they trudged their way up.
Anyway, he had seen Ninja Warrior: he'd approach this like they did the devious Warped Wall, nemesis of most first stage competitors. Run until he couldn't run any more, and jump the rest of the way. His cape blanket was still attached, but he didn't think it would do much for him at the moment but buffer the wind a bit.
He took a breath, half a moment's pause, and ran for the wall.
Nothing was going to stop him. No one was going to stop him. He was determined, he was willing to fight dirty, and he was going to get over this goddamn wall or take everyone around him out with him. Because if he didn't win then everyone else could suck it.
And they could if he did win, as long as they were clapping and cheering for him at the same time.

Rowan yelped as her burn proceeded to get worse. So when she landed in the mud she found that oddly enough she wasn't sore about falling it. She had done better then she thought she would. Granted, it was only the second obstecale but at least she had tried. She could be proud of that. That and the wet mud helped easy the burning sensation. Rowan couldn't help but laugh as she climbed out of the mud pit. This was something she'd always remember.

Mathias was glad to be over the lava, rolling his shoulders he continued on, before looking up at the large wall that stood before him. Great, he wasn't really looking forward to doing another climb this soon - but when he spotted the handholds he was sure he could manage it.
It wasn't like he wasn't a good climber - climbing was his thing - he enjoyed that thing!
Moving toward the hand holds, he started to scramble for the top - hoping to dig in and climb up. Slow and steady wins the race after all.
