Ezra had expected Engill to open the door, or ignore him, not call down from the roof. So, naturally, he was startled and jumped before backing off the porch and looking up at the angel. "Uh....Hi, Engill. Can I...join you up there?" Ezra didn't even know if Engill would want him here, but the guy was interesting and he still had to thank hm for being worried about him, and apologize for how he reacred to the angel's concern. "Oh, uh...." Ezra slipped the feather and chain out from under his shirt, holding the feather on his palm. "This won't do any permanant damage to the feather or magic, will it? It was the only way I could think of the keep it safe, so it couldn't be lost or stolen easily....And, keep it close....Sorry if I flubbed. I just didn't want anything to happen to it."

"I wasn't expecting to see you again" Gil told him, licking off the honey that had dribbled onto his fingertips. "Yes, you may join me up here." The boy had probably meant that he would climb but the angel merely closed his eyes and waved his hand and lifted the human off his feet and through the air, depositing him safely on the glassy slope of the roof beside him. He looked at the small feather on the chain and gave a soft smile. "No, that will not do the feather any harm at all. I'm glad you like enough to take such care of it. I did wonder if someone would take it from you. Have you had your breakfast yet? There's bread and honey if you want some."He wondered why the human youth had come to him. He'd seemed so annoyed with him the previous morning, irritated by his concern rather than grateful for it.

Ezra was...happy Engill didn't push him away. He looked around go find a ladder or something, but he was suddenly spirited uo to the roof. It left him disoriented. "Ah....C-Can you warn me next time you do that...?" He shook his head slowly before listening to him. "It's probably just a feather painted gold to them. Not worth taking....Yeah. I had breakfast. Sorry....I can't eat anymore. I might explode." He sat quietly for a minute or two before he sighed. "Hey. About yesterday, with my father....I'm sorry I shoved you aside like that. I'm glad you were concerned. I appreciate it. It's just....I didn't want a big scene. I didn't think you would either, being a recluse. There would have been dozens of police trampling through your forest, and I didn't want to deal with the legal drama. I was just trying to save us both the burden." Plus, it was his father, whether he liked it or not. "...You can control lightning?"

Gil chuckled when Ezra looked so surprised at having been spirited up onto the roof. "I'm sorry, I will warn you next time" he replied. He lay down on the grass to stare up at the cerulean blue sky, mostly clear apart from a few wispy cirrus clouds high above them. He listened to the boy's apology and justification for the previous day. He did state a good case, Gil had acted rashly. "I understand. I won't have anyone trampling over my forest! I'd sweep every human from the place if I had to. Perhaps I should fence off the forest, make a sactuary of it, stop the humans from coming here...it would not be hard to do. Yes, I can control lightening. Only immediately overhead, not on some vast scale. As you wish it then for the wellbeing of both of us I'll not interfere with your family matter again." He sat up again and he held his chin and locked his gaze. "But if anyone ever really hurts you then I don't care who they are or what the consequences may be, I will strike them down in an instant."

Ezra listened to Engill speculate about blockading the forest and laughed a little. "That would only prove to invite deliquents. They love sneaking into places they shouldn't be." He was relieved when Engill said he'd stay out of his family affairs. When the angel took hia chin, Ezra's eyes widened a bit; his skin was hot. Really hot. He listened to the other before looking down. "...Why do you care so much? You don't even know me, and you're supposed to hate humans, aren't you?"

Gil did not answer immediately. He wasn't really sure of the answer to why. Why did he care what happened to one single human youth lost amongst the throng of undeserving creatures scuttling over the planet he wished had never been theirs to inhabit? But he was wrong about one thing. He did know him. More than he realised, anyway. He gave a soft smile, tilted his head on one side, brushing the hair from his face. "You have no friends because you like people as much as I do. You are just as much of a recluse, staying in your room with your books and those noisy devices and only being with others when you must. You love one person only as you should love a mother because she is more a mother to you than the one who birthed you. You tell yourself you don't care that your parents don't love you but you do, it burns away deep inside eating at the very marrow and heart of you, colouring everything you see and do in your life. You are intelligent, honest, dependable but you are not truly good because you lack caring. That's not your fault, you are an innocent, a victim though you don't realise that or see yourself that way. Do you realise that the way your father treats you counts as emotional abuse? You should not remain with those people."

Ezra sort of flinched away from Engill's act of brushing his hair from his face, finding it a bit too intimate for his comfort. But, he did listen to the older male. He raised an eyebrow as he spoke, becoming a bit creeped out. It was just because he was an angel that he knew what Ezra did in his room all day, right? Engill's words...stung a bit. He didn't want to acknowledge that it hurt that his parents didn't care about him. He had spent too many nights as a kid crying because of it, and he was just...done. He was tired of crying over it. "I shouldn't....But, I don't plan on leaving. I have Sophia and my cat. They're all the reason I need to stay there." All the reason he needed to wake up, too. If he didn't have them, he probably would have given up a long time ago. "Besides, I have nowhere to go if I did leave. I'm not like you....I couldn't live in the forest. It's just not...my ideal habitat."

Gil listened. He nodded to show his understanding but didn't answer. He stretched his wings wide and yawned. "I have work to do. You may join me if you wish or you may just stay here and pass the time as you please" he told him. "There's a doe about to give birth. It's her first birthing and she's scared. I want to sit with her, see that it's an easy process." He flew down to the ground and look up at Ezra on the roof. "Do you want to climb down or shall I lift you down? There's no ladder, I've no need for one."

Ezra looked up at the other as he stood and stretched. So, he didn't mind if Ezra stuck around. That was nice. When he heard there was a doe ready to give birth, he blinked. "Is it okay if I came along? I've never seen an animal give birth, and I...want to work with animals when I finish college." He smiled softly and watched Engill fly off the roof. The teen slid to the edge and then jumped off, making sure to keep his knees bent a bit so there wasn't any damage to them when he landed on the ground. "If it'll be too stressful for the doe, I don't mind staying here and passing the time."

Gil raked both hands through his long hair then tied it back in a ponytail with a short length of hemp string from his pocket. "She'll trust you if you're with me" he replied. "You may come." He went into the cabin first for a drink of water and to wrap the remainder of his bread in waxed cloth so it would not go stale. Then he headed out along a small animal path into the forest, checking to see that Ezra was following him safely. The path weaved through the trees deep into the forest to a small clearing, like a green oasis in the midst of the tall dark firs. The doe was laying in a bracken, her breathing fast and her eyes wide. "She's started already. Just sit very quietly." He went and sat beside the young female and gently stroked her, it calmed her a little. He pressed around her belly for a few moments. "It shouldn't be long. The baby's heartbeat is strong and he's in the right position. It's just a matter of waiting."

Ezra followed after Engill, staying close to he didn't get separated from him. They came across a clearing and Ezra spotted the doe. She looked scared, which was probably natural to any first time mother regardless of species. Ezra didn't get too close. He didn't want to risk startling her. So, he sat a little ways off and just watched. He didn't say anything, not wanting to make the situation stressful with unneccessary chatter. If Engill needed help, he'd ask. Right?

Gil was pleased that Ezra was sensible, he knew not to sit too close and to stay quietly out of the way just watching unless prompted otherwise. He hoped the experience of watching the birth would be a fascinating one for him as he had said he'd not seen a creature birthed before. He continued to comfort the doe as labour progressed. Things were slower than he'd have liked and after a time he examined her again. "She's not pushing hard enough" Gil said to Ezra at length. "We may have to pull the baby out." If the birth took too long the fawn could die. It was already a little distressed. The mother just didn't seem to have enough strength. "I'll give her another few minutes, if she doesn't start to push harder then we'll deliver the little one ourselves. I've done so before, I'll talk you through what to do."

Ezra watched, intrigued, but then Engill spoke to him. So, it was taking longer than it should. Ezra was hoping this was normal pace for a deer. "Okay. Uh...." He shifted so he was on his knees and could get up when needed, and removed the ring on his finger before putting it in his bag. "Should I wear gloves? Because of the...scent thing?"

Gil did not take the eyes off the deer whilst he spoke to Ezra, keeping soft eyes locked with hers to calm her. "No. Gloves will have an artificial scent of their own. Grab a handful of grass and flowers and rub in over your hands so the sap comes out, that will help" he told him. He waited whilst the boy did so. "We've waited long enough. We need to get the fawn out now." He opened a pouch hanging from his belt and took a small jar from it. "I brought this just in case, I always do" he said. It was a jelly like substance. He poured it over his hands then rubbed them together thoroughly before slowly easing a hand inside the deer. "I can feel him. I just need to grasp his front legs and ease him out. Come sit next to be and get ready to hold his head when you see it whilst I pull."

Ezra did as he was told, rubbing grass and flowers on his hands and arms, up to his elbows. He watched Engill ready himself and then get to work. When told to sit next to him, Ezra did so and kept his eyes open for the fawn's head. When it popped out, he quicjly reached forward to hold it as he was instructed. This was thrilling and worrisome.
