Juran took another slice of pizza, stared at a torn poster on the wall to avoid looking at Teito. "Started training up for fighting when I was ten. Went in the ring for the first time proper at fourteen. You?" If he could turn the conversation around to Teito then he wouldn't have to answer painful questions, like how come so young and where were your parents...

It felt a bit weird actually having a conversation with someone like this. It was kinda nice in a way though. Weird but nice, that summed it up. Shame Teito wasn't going to be around once he was well enough to fight again himself, he'd never had a real friend and he reckoned he and Teito could have been friends in a different world that didn't revolve around gangs and ring fighting. He sighed and rubbed his temples. "So where will you go when you leave here?" he asked him.

His squat? So, he had his own pad, kind of, no gang. That must be good. He'd have liked that, to be out on his own in his own little domain. But he'd just been a small kid when he'd found himself on the streets and the boss had taken him in. He couldn't have survived on his own back then and now, well, once you were in you were in for good, there was no getting away, the boss owned you and that was that. He spluttered on his root beer when Teito joked about him missing the guy. He had been joking, right? He laughed. "Cause not" he replied. "What's to miss?" His eyes though said something different. Yeah, actually, I will... weird, huh?

"No sweat. Any time. Thanks for the grub" Juran replied. What the hell was he saying, any time? Since when was he ever this amiable to anyone? Never. Well, not in a very long while. He had quickly learned that it didn't pay to be anyone's lapdog or doormat. You suffered. Physically, mentally, emotionally, you suffered for it. Befriending anyone was a very dangerous game. But, very simply, he like Teito. That was all it came down to. He finished off the pizza then lay down and drifted back to sleep with a full belly and content for now.

Juran slept peacefully for a while but then the nightmares came. He started to whimper and to toss and turn. Turning onto his side hurt and the pain caused him to wake with a start, letting out a small yelp. He was sweating and shaking. It was pitch black, well into the night. He groped for his flash light he had near the bed. He hoped to hell he hadn't cried out in his sleep and woken anyone.

Juran couldn't find his flash light, it had rolled out of reach under the bed. He swore under his breath. He wondered why he was sweating and shaking so much. He hoped the hell his wound hadn't got infected, an infection was the last thing he needed. He heard Teito and swore again. "Yeah...fine.. sorry" he called out in a strained voice. "Just...can you put the f**king light on for me please?"

Juran shook his head. "I'm okay. Sorry if I woke you. I reckon the meds are screwing with my mind, that's all" he replied. Ever since the stabbing, the nightmares had returned. He'd thought they were a thing of the past but now the past was haunting him more than ever. "Leave the light on. Night."

When the fights took place on their property, Juran watched and rooted for Teito. He was impressed with his skill and with how supple and light-footed he was. When the fights took place elsewhere he found himself pacing his room, anxious for news that the guy was okay. As time went by, he had to give up lying to himself about not caring. He cared. He hated that he cared but it was a fact and that was that. He found himself wishing that he wasn't healing so well just so they'd keep Teito around for longer.

Juran tapped on Teito's door. He'd gone out and got a pizza and some cans of beer to share, first time he'd been outside in a while.
