He twisted his head and glanced back at her, " I know, I understand. Thought, since I know of your past, its only fair I tell you part of my story." He could only tell her part, as the rest of it was Niobe's story.
" Niobe and I, were the only litter ever born to our parents, the only ones to live out of the 6 of us. That was the way of the jungle, our parents did not mourn the lost cubs. They werent leaders of their pride, but more of second in commands." He looked around, his childhood danced around in his mind. " We didnt pine for anything, a sickness swept over our pride, it ended many of the males lives, familys were shattered. Our own father fell to the sickness." He closed his eyes, remembering the white male, his soft grey mane, he shook his head. " Our mother never re-mated. She became distant, shoving us away..shoving Niobe away. She left, Niobe and me were apart for two years...she returned one day, with her mate. I'd never seen her so happy..." He fell silent for a moment, his eyes now wandered to the sky. " She'd just found out she was with cubs..." He looked to Ayana, " But that is all I can say for now...the rest...is Niobe's story.."

Ayana nodded, looking to the ground, "Should we be going back? You left Kila in a hurry... I'm sorry for dragging you off" She paused and nodded, walking down the bank of th river, deep in thought. Benoni liked this other female, she could tell but.. She looked at him over her shoulder and looked foreward again with a sigh.

" Yes, we should be heading back." This time, he was the one that with held pieces of his past. He licked her muzzle as he continued forward, " Ayana...Kila is very dear to me. I'm sorry." He lowered his head slightly. "I wish it was different, but the feelings I have for you are different, motherly maybe." He tried to explain but couldnt find the words.
