The concerto for two violins can be annoying - the last movement, if you get off, it's pretty hard to get back on. I hate doing it for competitions and things. ~ Jade Samadhi ~ Fantasia on an Original Theme? That's an amazingly beautiful song. I played that... uh... in seventh grade summer orchestra I think. That or Sixth grade regular orchestra. It's really, a very beautiful piece though, you must admit. Rather simple, but very beautiful. No, not that one. This one is by Ralph Vaughn-Williams, and keeps switching tempos. So the notes themselves are... well, actually pretty hard for the first violins, but not impossible. But the rhythm is difficult and stretchy. The nifty thing about it is that there is a second orchestra behind the first. It has two people on each part. And then there are four...? I don't remember. No, three. Three solos throughout the piece. So the textures of the piece keep changing, and it is sublimely lovely.

Emmylientje I think my favourite composer is Vaughan Williams, with his orchestra music. I like the beautiful harmony's in his peaces and his modulations. I love modulations! I playd one peace of him in an orchestra. There are so many voices! You have the orchestra and another orchestra: orchestra 2, wich includes two different 1st violinvoices, two different 2nd violinvoices, two different violavoices, two different cellovoices and a contrabas. In the 'normal' orchestra every voice (1st, 2nd violin, viola, cello, contrabas) has two different voices and the first chair of every voice has solo's... How much voices do you have then!!! i'v played that piece. it was very long, but a great piece. we also played a similar piece by thomas canning for 2 string quartets and string orchestra i like a lot of stuff by beethoven also.

It's hard for me to answer this question because my favorite composer to listen to is not my favorite composer to play the music of. Really with different styles and the size of pieces my favorites varry.
I enjoy playing Italian Baroque pieces, especially those composed by Vivaldi. For performing, as in on stage with an orchestra, I prefer to play Romantic or PostRomantic, Gypsy influenced, virtuosic pieces such as the Bruch in g minor, Ziegunerweisen by Sarasate, and Vitali's Chaconne in g minor.
For listening, I guess Beethoven would be my favorite. You can get anything from him: light and fluffy, or heavy and dark. Anything to suit any mood, pretty much. I don't know if I enjoy playing his music as I've really only ever played Romance in f. That's right, with all the orchestras I've ever been in I have only played an abridged version of the finale to the 5th symphony at a side-by-side rehersal while sitting amongst a bunch of little kids. So... hopefully that will change.
That's my spew. `fishy
