She drew in a deep breath and glanced at the female, a hint of suspicion playing on her mind. "Thirsty?" She exhaled noisily and raised her head to glance around. The scent of water was stronger now and she had to admit that a drink would help ease the dryness in her throat. Perhaps the water would help soothe the bruising in her side.
"It couldn't hurt now could it." She gave a wry smirk and continued on at a slow pace, head held slightly higher, pride never once dwindling. "Not as if there's much else of interest around here anyway." She continued, filling the silence with her smooth voice, only sometimes broken as she drew in another breath.
"So tell me...you said you met a wolf named Dagda, did he...come across as strange to you?" She wondered whether perhaps she had just been judging him too hard and had perhaps misinterpreted him.

Yes that would be right, Ren thought as she padded softly along, listening to the words of the female. Every one she met seemed to have some sort of problem in their lives. She wished that she could be considered 'normal' and be able to crack a smile once every so often. The truth was that she neither felt the need to do such a thing anymore. She felt half dead and if she wasn't filled with the ideas of revenge she probably would have just rolled over and died. That option was still open to her however, and the thought of suicide did seem welcome, especially in days where things just got her down.
She angled her vision as she glanced at Tae who had moved to trot beside her and wrinkled her snout, a glimmer of teeth revealed in this action.
"I dislike him." She spoke finally, whether this was a lie, or truth or perhaps a mix of both it was anyone's guess.
She too smelt the scent of water and raised her head to inhale a deep breath, even the smell of it made her mouth tingle with anticipation.

Ren visibly flinched at the words, muscles twitching in her shoulders and jaw as she swivvelled her ears backwards, a rumbling growl echoing from between her parted jaws. The fact was true enough, for most wolves went down in her book as being stupid and bothersome. Tae belonged in the bothersome list along with Dagda and all the other wolves like them.
"I have yet to meet someone to match my high standards." She replied huskily, eyes trailing upwards to the cloudy sky. She wanted to see the stars and the moon, she craved for nightfall and the realisation that morning had only just sprung made her irritable. Could they not be blessed with a never ending night, filled with cloudless skies and the moon to light their way?
Her ears twitched forwards and she raised her head, nostrils writing at the scent and sound of water just ahead. For a moment her wound was forgotten and she broke into a ragged trot, wincing only a little as her injured side was jolted from the effort.

In her rush to get to the water she momentarily forgot about her companion, determined only to see and wet her fur in the water's flowing depths. A few seconds later and she was greeted with the brilliant sight of the river as it meandered through the sparser trees. Great flowing rushes grew up at it's sides and dragonflies hovered around it. The sounds of frogs croaking noisily from their places on the lily pads was pleasant to the ears and the wolfess moved forwards.
Shaking the fur around her neck she slipped between the rushes, paws sinking into the marshy bank as she lowered her head and drank thirstily, pink tongue lapping at the surface. Then finally after her thirst had been quenched she craned back her head to look for the other. It seemed as if she had fallen behind but was still heading towards the water.
Closing her eyes she moved into the water, allowing its cool embrace to soothe the burning of the bruising on her side. She flooded with relief as she moved deeper, eyes closing once more as she parted her maw and let loose a contented sigh.

Sirena watched the blue wolf's actions with more interest that she would ever let on, light brown eyes tracing her as she moved through the water. The smallest of smirks twitched at her maw as she took in everything about the other wolfess. There was a change in her now, perhaps brought on because of the water? She raised her head, droplets of water dripping from her muzzle as she moved further into the cool depths of the river.
She was not so much a swimmer as this other seemed to be, only using the river to quench her thirst or soothe her pains. It seemed a miracle cure for anything and everything, except the wounds inside, ones it couldn't reach. Even this water could not cleanse the bitterness in her heart. She doubted anything could.
She stood in the water a moment longer, gaze directed over its smooth surface and breathing evening out, and then slowly she backed up and turned her form, ripples cascading from her slender body as she made her way up to stand on the marshy bank.
She lowered her head and she shook herself, a cascade of droplets clouding about her as she did so. Then with a slightly pained motion she lowered herself to the ground, a look of relaxation finally falling about her usually tense form.

Ren angled her head slightly towards the female as she settled down beside her on the soft ground. It's texture was comfortingly cool against her stomach and legs and she found herself suddenly enjoying the area much more than she ever would have expected. There was something peaceful here, sparkling with beauty and majesty and it lulled her into a sense of calm she hadn't felt in a long time.
The silence between the two was interrupted by the cheerful singing of birds, or their calls as they zipped overhead. The frogs never once ceased in their own croaking songs and even the buzzing wings of the flies added to this strange natural harmony.
She extended her forepaws, eyes closing and ears twitching forwards as she concentrated on her surroundings by sound rather than sight. It had been like this the day she had met Kaffy, the day they had vowed to stick together no matter what. She raised her head slightly, enjoying the feel of the wind on her face and drew in a deep breath. Even death would not break their vow, and in time she would join him too.
After a long moment she returned her attention back to the blue companion. "This place..." She trailed off, searching for the right words, "makes me feel new." She nodded slightly and lowered her maw to rest upon her forepaws.
