Today I scratched at my hand again and again and now it's red and has blisters on it. neutral
I really need to stop before I do some proper damage to myself. sweatdrop I've decided to always take something to school to fiddle with to keep my hands busy so i can't harm myself with them.
Barbsy, that's probably a fantastic site but only for certian types of self-injury. The kind it's talking about is more moderate self-injury done as a response to bad situations. I have a fantastic life, I just do minor things to myself sometimes.

barbsy Artio barbsy Artio makes sense. and whenever i do cut i make sure i clean it right away. the only problem is that when i want to, its totally random with almost no warning. maybe if i started to exercise regularly it would help more. i normally cut late at night when i can't sleep and start thinking of depressing stuff... i've tried rubber bands, i end up playing with them and giving myself welts. they really hurt.... best way at night do something repetative...or watch tv....just take ur mind off things til u are very tired if u cant sleep dont stay in bed...thats what makes u think bout depression...just keep urself occupied til u sleep the only thing that really works is just reading something till i'm tired. but i can't really do anything loud because everyone else in my family is sleeping and my mom doesnt let me go on the computer or use the tv after 10pm normally... does anyone have suggestions for good music that is happy? or just less rock-based? i have a lot of that and it doesn't help for calming me down or helping me fall asleep. i'm different with the music...depressive and angry music makes me feel better cos it releases the emotion... some good music...michael buble biggrin and the old crooners songs they are so cool hehe angry music doesnt help my mood when i'm angry. thanks i'll check that out at my library 3nodding

That sounds like a good thing to learn! I suppose that could also help prevent panic attacks (I keep worrying irrationally that I will have a panic attack at school as I did once and it was awful). Thank you for the suggestion. smile How are you doing with stopping? I'd like to think someone who can help others like that would be good at finding ways to stop herself. Artio - I'm currently knotting plastic strings which is a sort of craze at the moment, and it also stops me SIing and stops me irratating everyone by tapping my pencil on the table while absent-minded. xp

It's good that you realise that you're allowed to fail, because you can still succeed in the end. It's something I only realised about my life as a general quite recently! Thanks for the future relaxation tips!

I've found I have that problem, too, though it's just plain fidgeting and any harm I do is by accident. I play guitar and violin...and I've found it enormously helpful to practice all the fingerings when I get the urge to start twitching...fidgeting...it helps a little for improving technique on the both, and keeps me from wrecking something with my fidgeting. I have a mild self-harm problem...when I get mad at myself (which is pretty often), I'll start banging my head on a wall or something. Headaches have been coming more often, now...I keep telling myself to stop as it does NOTHING to help..but...I keep getting mad at myself.

Headaches have been coming more often, now...I keep telling myself to stop as it does NOTHING to help..but...I keep getting mad at myself. the headaches u experience are known as tension headaches...they are actually the result of high stress and anxiety...which makes your muscles tense up for long periods of time...a good tip is to keep hydrated and have a hot bath or shower when you are feeling angry and stuff... if you get mad at the fact that no matter how much you try to stop and tell yourself it does absolutely nothing to stop your problems...the thing to do there is accept that you do self harm yes every now and again you will hurt yourself but there is no use cryin over spilt milk...dont beat yourself up over it because it actually reinforces the negative behaviour in you...if you really want to quit the key it to accept it and keep a cool head about it... count how many days you've gone without it...if you harm tell yourself it will get better and it was just a slip up and next time you try going more time without it...that way you slowly reinforce the positive behaviour and learn to live without self harm... this does work kiddies...i've done it through experience...the more i fought the idea of self harm the worse i had become...

I used to play the violin but I quit last year. I don't regret it. Very occasionally, all the different parts of me will scream at each other inside my head, and I hit my head on a wall so they all come together and say "Oi! That hurt!" xp I also used to do it when I was mad at myself. I just kept reminding myself that I would have less reason to be so angry if I didnt' do that to myself! I need something to do with my hands when I'm nervous or irritated.
