"You're going to stay here," Said Gerard nodding. Escher's heart, if it could beat, would've skipped one.
"Are you serious?"
"Of course I am. Somehow, Ophelia has gotten in on this and if Ophelia has chosen you, here is where you shall stay. I'm sure you don't mind, " Said the devil, smiling. Escher couldn't quite contain himself. He flung his arms around the man, hugging tightly. Gerard seemed taken aback but he patted the boy's head gently. "Everything's gonna be alright now," Said Gerard. Escher smiled and let go of him. "Now, run along and explore. If you're needed, Ophelia will surely let you know."
"Thank you so much, Gerard."
"Ha, don't thank me. Thank Ophelia when you see her."
"Well, I still thank you."
"Whatever you want."

Escher waved a good-bye and was ready to leave the room when he saw a trail of blond hair leading out of the door. A girl was busy chopping off her hair, making it frightfully uneven.
"Excuse me, miss? Do you need help with that?" He asked. The girl looked up at him, a distressed look on her face.
"Would you?" She handed the boy the scissors.

Mary was extremely relieved when the guy from before offered to help her. She was horrible with anything to do with hair, except dying it with that spray on stuff.
She was beginnign to think she'd have to live with terribly uneven hair when they guy came alogn and fixed it. Once he finished, it looked so much better. It was short, but not really short. Short like a bob short. But it was cut so that it was spikey, with bangs in the front.
Mary admired it in the mirror when he finished.
'That is pretty much the raddest hair cut ever. Were you a hair dresser when you were still alive?' She asked him, still looking at her cut from every angle.

Escher smiled sheepishly. "Nah, no hairdresser. But I've been cutting my own hair since I was five. It's a trail and error sort of thing," He shrugged. The girl nodded.
"Well, it's awesome just the same. Thanks! My name's Mary, by the way," She said.
"I'm Escher, pleased to meet you. Would you like to explore Hell with me?"
Mary nodded and together, they walked out of Gerard's office and into the mystery that was Hell.

Adlee only smirked at the new person in the room.
She didnt much fancy that one girl that walked in, but that was because she was a teenager still and that she knew nothing of her.
The girl carefully streched, standing up and giggling slightly at Carla'a prediciament.
"I'm going to .... explore," She put emphasis on the word, causing the room to tense.

pssssst. i'm uberlost. i know the carla/mary cross, but i'm so lost on the rest of it. who are you talking about? the whole time overlap thing is werid anyway (that's a general comment on the nature of rp-ing), so here's an... odd... question for your post: have i left yet? am i still here? why do i get the feeling that two different (maybe even three?) scenes with similar subject matter but they're different enough that i don't know what's really going on. am i still in the room? when i posted the thing w/escher meeting gerard, the room was empty, but everyon's back... so... this is... confusing. gonk

I think that you have kind of disappeared but you reappear when you want to. At least that's how I understand it. Just kind of see where you fit in and start from there.[/out of game]

'So, Escher. Didn't some old Dutch guy have the same name?'
'Yeah. Don't know why my parents named me after him, half- no, scratch that, three quarters of the world don't know who the ******** he was.'
Mary smiled. 'I know who he is, just dunno what he did. Me, I always got the name 'Mother Mary'. But would you look at what happened; I shot myself three times and let a garage door fall on me.' Mary scoffed. 'Y'know, it'd be fun to see the faces of my parents when they find my body. Just for kicks.' Mary smiled wickedly.
By now they had set foot upon what looked to be the 'main street' of Hell. It was ******** crazy.
Everywhere there were people covered in blood, partying like there was no tomorrow. Even though it was big, it was packed with people. The air smelled of drugs, alcohol and smoke, and loud music pounded in her ears.,
Mary smiled. She was already liking Hell more and more.

Hell was one huge party, unlike Heaven, which was a never-ending work day. People with all sorts of wounds, bleeding from every place imaginable were sitting around, drinking beer, smoking everything, and just having a wonderful time. Escher walked over to some guy who had a knife stuck in his chest and shoulder and asked him for a cigarette. The man smiled and passed him one, lighting it up for him and everything. Escher thanked in profusely and went back over to Mary, who had scored a six pack of beer off of a suicide cult. She handed him a bottle and they continued to walked down the street, smoking, drinking and laughing as they went.

Mary was having the best time ever. This was even better than her Halloween party, which was the best she'd been to while still alive.
She had been here not even 3 hours and she already knew this was the best place to be.
Walking down the street through the party, drinking one beer after another, smoking one cigarette after another, and even getting hold of some weed, laughing the entire time, it was pure hell.
And that is meant in a good way.
She tried to keep an eye open for Misery, Adlee, or Ry, but so far, she hadn't found them. She wasn't worried though; she knew she'd meet them again soon. She had all eternity, so she literally had all the time in the world.
She was soon pretty damn drunk, not to mention high, and slurring her words.
Beside her, Escher was the same.

Warning you in advance, this is a huge effing post... sorry about it... sweatdrop
----------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Gerard gazed absently out the window of a large study a few stories down. In the streets, the "fires of hell" raged as countless figures chain-smoked thier way to a glorious night. He considered searching the crowd below for the blind Messenger....

"I'm on to your secret identity, Flash." he said abruptly, yet gently, and turned around to face exactly what he was expecting.

There she was, sitting with practiced grace in a chair across the room. It was kind of unnerving when she popped up like this, but at the same time, Gerard was grateful for it. She had a way of appearing whenever he had something on his mind, and she always left him with a different set of things to worry about than the one he presented. Though not the most concise way of giving advice, it worked. For him, at least.

Ophelia smiled through the long minute that settled between them. He began several questions in his mind, but none of them made it out.

"There's everything and nothing to say, Gerard." she said finally. "So speak. Start somewhere. Don't ask me where. I may be wise, but I don't know everything. That, actually, is one of the reasons why I'm here." She lowered her face, and Gerard noticed that her hands were twisting furiously together in her lap. He took a few steps towards her and sat in a chair opposite.

"It's that time agian, Gerard." she said. Her voice cracked through quite a bit more than her usual emotion. His instincts got the better of him and he found himself suddenly kneeling in front of her, and touching her face gently.

"It's time for the next line, yes. I know. I have it. It's here. I don't know why you're so upset about this. Why you're always this way. Why don't you ever approach it like----"

"Like I'm one step closer to finding him and getting my Judgement?" she finished as tears began to fall. "Because I've been waiting for Judgement for too long now. And because I have to wait five Earth years to get a couple of lines that you keep telling me will bring me closer to him, yet I HAVEN'T FOUND HIM! I can't rest. Anywhere. Because of the contents of those lines, because of what I swore, and what he swore, and how is it that I am still here waiting for him? Eh? How is that? He died before me and Judgement was passed on him, and he is either in Heaven or Hell, yet neither you nor the angels will help me to find him! And here I am, this waif of a soul. You know what the worst part is? You keep telling me that these lines that I wait for will bring me closer to finding him.... and I keep believing you." She took a breath and began to speak agian, but her words mangled and tripped over themselves, coming together into one tragic, passionate scream as her fists wreaked vengeance against his shoulders.

After a moment, he stood and walked across the room again, letting her calm down. He had tried to console her in the past, and it had all ended badly. So he gave up. Instead, he pulled a well-worn piece of paper out of his inside pocket and unfolded it. Over her abating sobs, he began to read:

"On Hallow's Eve
'twas forged an oath
that none, save two, remember.
It begins with a love
cursed from the start
to ne'er grow more than an ember.
They made their plans
to sneak away
into the woods by night.
And though they ventured
hand in hand,
t'were severed by dawn's light.
A third party found them
in those woods:
he who signs his name as Death.
He found them there
and one lover said
"Run" with his last breath.
She did run far,
yet she returned
to where he lay in the glade..."

He took a second piece of paper out of his pocket and read the last stanza from it:

"She sank down by
her one true love
and expired to the grave."

Her blind eyes brimmed with tears once again as he put the papers back in his pocket. He poured out wine into two ornate goblets and gave one to her. As she took it, she mumbled out "One step closer... one step..." almost in a trance.

"Five Earth years." Gerard toasted her. "Five Earth years closer to resting. And five Earth years more you have helped us in the fight against Heaven."

Ophelia stared blankly over her drink, too lost in her thoughts to hear him. One step closer.....

Gerard drank his toast and settled comfortably into his chair to wait. He had given her what she wanted, and now he would get what he wanted from her. He felt a slight pang of guilt as he watched her recover from her stupor - was it really necessary to make her wait five years for a couple of lines of poetry? He drowned this idea in the rest of his wine as she slowly began to give details of the Resistance movement in Heaven.

kay, guys, i know it's imposing, but we can keep the story going. i'm also giving permission to use my character almost like gerard's, where if you want me to pop up somewhere and give advice or just be weird or whatnot, you can do that.

so let's keep going.

Mary woke up she didn't know how long later with no hangover, surprisingly. Apperantly, in Hell, hangovers didn't exist.
Boy was Mary ever thankful for that.
She sat up groggily, as she was still tired, and looked around.
She had passed out in the middle of the street.
There were passed out bodies everywhere; the streets were as crowded as the night before. It was as if evryone had just passed out where they were.
Well, then again, that's probably exactly what happened.
Escher was only a few metres away, now empty beer bottle in hand. Judging from the wet pavement around the beer bottle it still had something in it when Escher had collapsed and it spilled.
She crawled over oto him, too tired to get up, and shook him awake.
Or tried to.
He only groaned in his sleep.

Pretty People Never LIE

Escher opened his eyes, his eyelids feelings like they both weighed tons. Surprisingly, he didn't have the raging headache that came after a night of total debauchery but then he remembered that being dead and being in Hell probably had something to do with that. But he felt extremely weak and tired.
He saw Mary, crawling towards his slumped over body, her stomach bleeding. He wanted to start freaking out but then he felt the blood seeping from his bulletwound. A new day brought fresh blood. Wiping it off with the back of his hand, he smiled at Mary.
"Can you even remember what we did last night?" He asked with a grin.
The girl let out a hallow laugh. "If you're implying that we ********, your pants are still zipped so I'm assuming nothing but a lot of booze." Escher giggled.
"So, where can a couple of dead kids get a bite to eat 'round here?" He asked. Mary shrugged. "Dunno. But give me a minute before we take off," she said, pointing to her bleeding stomach. Escher nodded and waited for her to get collected.

Mary inspected the wound in her stomach as she hadn't before.
She wasn't good with other people's blood, but her own she was fine with.
It intregued her in a weird sort of way. She imagined what she must have looked like, when found, with three bullet wounds and a huge hole in her stomach. She smirked at her mom's face when she imagined it; her mom always thought she was the perfect little daughter. Mary never bothered to correct her.
After coming back from the fantasy world she was in, she cleaned the blood up best she could, then stood up.
Turning to Escher, she said, 'You coming, or are you gonna stay here surrounded by passed out bodies all day? C'mon, I wanna find Addle, Mistery and Ry and explore.'

Pretty People Never LIE

Escher pulled himself from off the ground and smiled, taking the girl's bloodstained hand. His bullet hole began to drip again, but he ignored the blood, like most of the other dead did. "Who did you say you were looking for?" He asked. None of the names she had said sounded familiar.
"My friends. They killed themselves the same time I did."
"Oh, so you had a suicide pact thing?"
"I guess you could call it that. It's no fun to die alone."
"It's not the worst thing in the world," said Escher, remembering his own death. He hadn't really thought about it that much in Purgatory or in Heaven but now that he was in Hell, he was beginning to see it very clearly. He had taken his father's old pistol from the safebox underneath his parent's bed, gone into the bathroom, and shot himself pointblank in the forehead. A shudder went through him as he remembered, not because he was disgusted with the way he died but because he could feel it when he thought of it.
"You alright?" Mary asked. Escher nodded, blood spilling from his skull. Mary giggled. "You need to get your blood under control."

It was fairly amusing the way Escher's bullet wound always dripped blood.
'Do you think true feelings still exist here? Like sadness, anger, happiness, hurt, etc?' She asked out of the blue.
Well, not completely out of the blue. She had something planned with this question.
'Well, I'd think so. I mean, I had a blast last night at the party, hmost fun I've ever had, dead or alive.'
'Me too. So, I think I have a solution to why your forehead is always dripping blood.'
Escher looked at her confused. 'Why?'
'Well, when someone blushes, it's because blood rushes to their head. I think you don't have a blood problem, but a blushing problem.' She teased, laughing. She was always one to say things outright, not beat around the bush, except when she was teasing. Then she liked to leave her vitim clueless until the actual teasing came up. This time was no exception.
