It had been 6 days since we had left town. Everyone was agitated, hungry, and bored. No one had spoken for hours. I just used my extra legs to row the boat slowly onward. I realized I should probably try and catch some fish so that at least we'd have food. I took some of my bread ration and threw some crumbs ahead a short ways. Everyone looked back at me to see what I was doing, but I just put a finger to my lips and pointed at the crumbs. They were slowly being snatched by fish. The others realized what was going on and Persephone, Alisha, Sousuke, and Artemis, the ones best able to catch them, waited with bated breath. As we pulled up, I snatched at one and threw it into the boat. The others did the same, with Artemis and Persephone coming up short. We continued trying until we had enough to feed the boat. After eating I laid back in the boat to rest and stared at the sky. It was a calm day, nearly cloudless, which was not neccessarily a good thing. There were birds flying... Wait, there shouldn't be any birds this far out to sea. I sat up quickly and looked around. THERE! Off in the distance to the west was a small land mass! "Everybody look!" I yelled, pointing. They all turned and started cheering. We turned the boat and everybody started paddling as fast as they could towards the island in the distance.

I looked up "Holy s**t LAND!!! I put on og my massive arms over the edge and started stroking, with that fish in my stomach it felt like my ebergy was back. We started going west, once we got ourselves working together well, we headed faster in that direction. All most there, I thought.

Asuka tore into her food ravenously. Fish never tasted so good to her as it did in that moment. Once she was finished eating, she saw Freak resting, and thought that it was a pretty good idea, considering they didn't know when they would find food again. So she reclined against the side of the boat and glanced at the sky.
Geez she thought, the sun is really bright. I've already got a horrible sunburn... Which was true. Asuka's skin, which was usually milky white in color, was now the hue of a boiled lobster.

Asuka was broken out of her train of thought when she heard Freak shout. He was pointing at something... Asuka squinted a little and when she saw what she saw what he was pointing at, she started cheering along with the others.

The boat hit the sandy shore and Asuka bounded out of their little craft...and landed face-first onto the beach. Her leg muscles weren't used to being used and it took a few moments of stretching before they worked properly. She dusted herself off and looked around.

The island was nothing but a small spit of land in the middle of the ocean but it was covered in trees and other such foliage. Asuka was sure she could hear creatures around the island as well. "Allright, first thing's first. We need to make some shelter. Everyone stand back." She took a deep breath and let out a tremendous scream that toppled most of the trees in its immediate path.
"Let's get to work..."

Persephone leaped off the boat on all fours and began gathering things for the roof or the shelter. She found a small stream, that seemed to be leading to a river. "Hey Zander, will you help me find this river?" She asked leaping over to him. "It will be good to have fresh water, and there are probably fish that I can catch." She Smiled widely hoping he wasn't to busy.

Terran sat there, unspeaking. He never moved, other than when they forced him to eat. He just sat... and thought. How could all this happen to him? Right in the prime of his life, in the beginnings of adulthood, everything he knew had been taken away from him. He had been disqualified twice in a row from the test, he'd been slow-tortured and had an arm removed completely, he watched as his friend, Cidric, sacrificed his own life to save him, and watched further as the abomination destroyed the village he'd lived in his entire life. Everything he knew was gone. He vaguely heard some people talking, saw movement out of the corner of his eye. They were fishing, he realized later. Then a commotion. It all seemed so far away. He felt the boat rattle as it hit land. It all seemed mundane to him. Zander had picked him up and lugged him off the boat. He regained some of his senses long enough to see Zander and Persephone walk off together somewhere, as Asuka released and ear-splitting scream that leveled a few trees. Then Artemis approached. She looked down at him. "Terran...." She paused for a moment. Then she looked angry. "Get up!" Terran just stared on. He vaguely looked in her direction, but only for a second. Then sudden pain! She pulled back her hand and slapped him so hard it knocked him sideways in the sand. "I said get up! We have work to do. Snap out of it!" Terran slowly rose, a fierce look in his eyes. "And do what? We've lost everything! How can you guys just carry on like this? You don't know how it feels! You don't know how I feel! I watched a friend..." He cut himself off. He hadn't realized, for that split second, exactly who he was talking to. Artemis had tears rolling up in her eyes. But she remained composed and stood proud, her tears turning once again to anger. "I do know, Terran. He was more than a friend to me. I lost the one person I care about more than anyone. And I will probably never fully get over him. But do you know what? I'm carrying on. I'm living life the way he would want me to. You should do the same." She stared for another brief moment and stormed off to help the others. Beneath the fur, Terran had turned a magnificent shade of red, having been at that moment thoroughly pwn3d. He stood for another good 5 minutes thinking, and decided the best thing he could do at this moment... was be there, with his friends, and help out in any way possible. One arm? So what? He still had more talent in his left canine fang than half the people there. And with the return of Terran's cocky attitude came the return of the Terran nobody had seen in over a week.

Persephone and I headed down the river. I kept listening and smelling to make sure everything was sound. I really felt uneasy. I hated new places, had no sice of security or safety, but hey I'd really like to see something take me on,heh. The river was getting wider, the water was getting a little darker showing it was getting deeper. I listened again, all I heard was the swaying of the tree that weren't blown down and the rustle of leaves as we walked. Persephone found a spot on the bank she liked and went to it. I sat the opposite way keeping an eye out for anything.

She smiled at the river, she could see the fish floating down it, "I'm gonna go catch some, fish, will you watch out for me." She jumped onto a rock that was sticking out of the water and perched on it like a cat, she stood as still as she possibly could, so she wouldn't disturb the fish. She saw a fish floating by and reached out a pawed at it. "Here catch." She tossed the fish to Zander.

Zander bobbled the fish and finally got a grip on it. Zander started putting the fish into piles or at least best he could with them flopping around. Persephone was quite good a fishing, he had never seen such reflexes. The fish never even had a chance even though they weighed about five pounds each. She was quite lovely, really. Zander was transfixed on her watching her gracefully scoop the fish. She was beautiful, suddenly he snapped out of as a fish smacked him in the head. He was embarassed because he wasn't sure if she had noticed.

Persephone blushed lightly when Zander got hit in the head with a fish, she giggled, "I guess that's enough for now." As she said that something had grabbed hold of her leg and pulled her under the rushing water. She let out a high pitched scream, and tried to scratch at the monster. She was dragged under water, her breath was running short. But just before she thought she had no more air in her she found herself at the surface again. She took in as much air as possible and let out a loud scream, "Zander!" She was dragged under again. What was this thing, Persephone couldn't get a good look at it. It was to blurry to see.

I dove in without hesitation, thank god I was a decent swimmer. As I went under I saw it, it looked like a lizard, but it only had 2 legs, both in front, with giant jaws, a long tail that it had wrapped around her foot, and a glowy appendage coming out of his forehead, like an Angler Fish. I rushed to her, it saw me coming and made to take a huge bite out of persephone. I grabbed it's jaws and forced them apart, the jagged, serrerated teeth tore into my hand, but I didn't feel a thing. I punched it in the face repeatedly to get it's attention. It looked like it was focusing on me more, letting it's grip loosen a bit. I reached up and grabbed a hold of it's glowing appendage and started pulling as hard as I could. I used the monster's head as leverage, it wasn't budging. I tore and ripped and pulled till finally with a horrible ripping sound it tore off. The monster wailed and screamed a horrible noise, it fled in anguish ans anger. I started swimming to the top, I must have sunk down quite aways. I saw persephone heading to the top. I grabbed her and hurried to air. We broke the surface, gasping. I drug her to the bank where we both laid gasping, panting and spitting out water. We were finally safe.

Terran went out to help in whatever way he could. He ended up fashioning a sort of backpack/sling and was gathering small branches to use as firewood. He passed by a small river and saw Persephone catching fish and throwing them to Zander. Zander seemed to be more and more transfixed as she sat there, and eventually lost track of his catching ability, allowing a fish to slap in in the head. Terran laughed to himself, something he hadn't done since the events of the alleyway, and pressed on. Not to far after that he heard a subtle *splash!*, but paid it no mind. He figured Zander just got lost oggling Persephone again and fell in the river. He finished gathering the firewood and made it back to the camp. The others had already contructed the frame of the shack. It seemed large at first, until Terran realized that all 10 of them were gonna be bunking in there. He saw Asuka off to the side, blasting scream after scream at some stumps, turning them into large splinters. Sousuke would then come over and grab them up, and used a rock as a hammer and the splinters as nails to help hold their construct together. Artemis, Alisha, and Sanju were stringing together leaves and twigs, making almost a stiff wallpaper substance that Terran assumed was going on the outside to keep the wind out. Freak was up in a tree, knocking coconuts down, and occassionally snatching passerby birds out of midair and throwing their dead bodies down to be cooked later. Joe was busy lining heavy stones up in a ring. I went to him and laid down the firewood. "Here, whenever you're done with that, the wood is ready. Not sure how we're gonna start a fire, though, but we have the wood and now apparently the pit." Joe just nodded at this and continued his slow pace. Terran decided to try to scale the rock wall that was about 50 ft. away from where they landed ashore. He did so, with some difficulty, but not much, and sat at the edge of the cliff. The sun was beginning to set. He started to get worried. Zander and Persephone weren't back yet. But soon his worries faded as he heard light footsteps behind him. He turned and was face-to-face with Alisha. She sat down on his still-armed side. "Whatcha doin?" She asked as she watched the sun start to set. "Just... thinking, you know. ~sigh~ I dunno. I just can't believe all this. Our island was destroyed. I don't even know how many of my friends made it out. I watched as Cidric sacrificed his life to save me. I'm still crippled. But... I dunno... Something Artemis said... something in her tone and her action... it just made me realize that I need to press on." He sat silent for a while. Alisha leaned over and rested her head on Terran's shoulder. "You know, Terran... I've always admired you. I mean, you're a little cocky, but within reason. I guess confident is the word. Sure, you get carried away sometimes, but you've always been confident. And good. I ran with Sam for a while, as you know, but I never liked him that much. He was a coward. And now..." She lightly reached around and touched the bandages where Terran's arm once was. "...Well.. I'm proud of you. I mean, you had that moment where you were down, but you're recovering from it. Quite well. I'm proud of you." She kissed him on the cheek and got up to go back and join the others. Terran sat for a while longer watching the orange sun finishing disappearing under the horizon.

We laid there for a bit and just looked at each other. We realized the sun was going down, we really needed to get back. We gathered up all the fish and headed the way we had came. Finally, we got back to camp and laid the fish down. I sat on a log waiting to see what was next.

Zander and Persephone had left, following a stream. Terran had seemed to regain his spirits and was helping Sousuke and the others gather building materials. I started to help at first, then realized that we needed someone to scout out the island. I slunk away into the jungle surrounding the beach. I opened my infrared eyes so I could see if there were any people, or at the very least, small animals that we could use for food. There didn't seem to be anything, not even birds, which was strange, considering we had just seen some before we got to the island. I kept walking, looking for some fruit or something to eat. I suddenly heard a noise behind me. I looked back, but couldn't see anything. I opened my infrared eyes, but still nothing. Whatever it was, it must have been very stealthy. Or, I thought suddenly, it could just be cold blooded. I wouldn't be able to pick up heat signatures from something that didn't give them off. I kept walking, looking back from time to time, but still nothing.

Sousuke sat in a tree after they had finished building a shelter. He allowed the children to go about their business, and enjoy themselves. The kitsune teacher wanted them to try and regain their lives, or at least pieces of it.

Meanwhile, The teacher sat in thought. His mind carefully analyzed the attack on the village, and the man-beast that waged the attack. He had never seen anything like it, but was already starting to develop theories. He had heard a legand once; of men being spliced with legendary creatures. Maybe this was one of those occasions. If this was true, then they could be in real trouble. He would have to keep them moving. Can't have that thing catching up to them anymore.

He vowed to keep the children safe. With that he jumped high into the tree tops and was gone in an instant.
