Kapote, at first, was puzzled by his otherwise-focused attention. "What...?" she asked hesitantly, quirking a brow as he looked straight over her head, his nostrils working the air.

Then, all at once, she smelled it too. It was clearly the smell of something burning, and---

She drew in a horrified gasp. "THE RABBIT!!!" she all but shrieked as she dropped Kryssik's arm and scuttled back into the kitchen to see if there was anything left to salvage of their dinner.

Unattended, the meat had first charred and then caught fire from the flames below as the pathetic husk of what had once been meat hung from the spit. Groaning, the brown dragon hurriedly scooped up the clay bowl of water nearby and sprinkled it over the once-meat. With a hiss and a plume of gray-black smoke, the small fire extinguished on the sad remains.

Well....so much for that...

From the moment she'd scurried off like a headless chicken, and having heard her squeak over the now-ruined dinner the way she had, Kryssik had been unable to help himself and burst into peals of silent laughter. It was not so much because the situation was funny but the tension in the air was heavy and most definitely needed a release of some sort.

It hadn't come with the violence a moment ago, so it all came out now in sudden and slightly-disturbing amusement. The green laughed until he was crying, and then cried until he was laughing again, swallowing in great whoops of air until he had himself under control again.

...at least until he reached the doorway to the kitchen and got a glimpse of the shriveled black remains of what had once been a rabbit and lost it again, turning away to hitch and snort into his hands with another wave of mirth.

Kapote, in the process of trying to figure out how she was going to dispose of the wasted meat, heard the voiceless nasal chuffs of laughter behind her and cringed in annoyed embarrassment.

"I'm glad SOMEONE thinks its funny." she growled. It would figure, of course, that she'd been trying to get him to smile and lighten up for the last set of days with no success, but NOW, of all times, he decided rediscover his sense of humor.

Oh sweet irony, she thought resentfully as she, at a loss for what else to do with it, tossed the burnt bunny into the basket of discarded bones. Upon striking them, it pluffed apart into a cloud of charred bits and ashes, surrounding the area immediately around the basket in a ring of debris.

For a moment she simply stared in disbelief and then, before she was even aware it was creeping up on her, the brown FD dissolved into laughter as well. The entire ordeal, from beginning to end, was so ridiculous, how could she help herself?

Tears of laughter rolled over the rim of Kryssik's good eye, the swollen one not being quite as cooperative, as the explosion of what had once been dinner made him lose control all over again.

Slowly, between swells of silent chuckles, he made his way across the kitchen and pulled the lid off of the barrel he'd been invading not too terribly long ago when their altercation had first begun, reaching inside and fishing put two of its occupants.

Having found a fat pair of fish, he approached Kapote from behind, nudging her in the back with one of them, suspended by its tail from his fist like a pendulum.

The brown gave a startled yelp and turned regarding the fish with some degree of surprise, and then distaste, but accepted it from Kryssik. She didn't care for pickled food much. "Thank you." she sighed, her laughter drying up just as quickly as it arrived.

As she held it in her hands, torn between putting it back in the barrel or attempting to cook this one with better results, she heard wet crunching behind her and winced.

"I'll never know HOW you can just eat them raw like that...." she said, sticking out her tongue in disgust.

Kryssik, having been hungry, was already halfway through his fish and looked up as she made her statement, the tail-end poking out from his mouth. Without thinking, he signed The eyes are the best part.

Afterward, he was somewhat glad that she hadn't been able to understand anyway and, opening his throat, swallowed the rest of his fish. It wasn't quite as nice as cooked and spiced rabbit, but, in a pinch, anything could taste good if you let it. In the end, it was all going the same place anyway...

His thoughts turned, yet again, to his laboratory and his lack of access to it lately. Though he felt better now that they'd gotten the initial explosion of their tempers out of the way, something still needed to be done about their situation.

As though reading his mind, Kapote set about wrapping her fish in a leaf to set among the flames to cook, drawing in a breath to speak as she did so.

"We can't keep doing this." she told him matter-of-factly. "I mean....we're both adults, right? We can come to some sort of agreement without trying to claw each other's faces off..." She had meant it as a confident statement, but the way it came out, it was as though she was asking him to confirm this fact for her like she wasn't sure.

At the mention of clawing faces off, Kryssik brought up his paw to gently trace the outlines of the scratches she'd left on his muzzle, wincing as the brine from the fish he'd just ate stung them. They'd likely need a bandage to keep them from getting infected....perhaps he'd drop by the infirmary later.

She was right, though, they couldn't keep on like this. One explosion was quite enough, thank you. Padding out of the room, he went to his bedroom for a moment, emerging a moment later with his writing papers and quill. Scribbling for a moment, he presented Kapote with a note.

Perhaps I could dig you your own room here. I had hoped you would find your own lair and leave mine, but since that doesn't seem the case, we can at least take measures not to upset one another.

It wasn't the ideal solution, of course, but he could compromise, he guessed.

Likewise, he could make sure her room was as far from the living room as possible.

Kapote read the note in silence and looked back to him, quirking a brow.

"What I don't understand though, Krys, is why my being here bothers you so much in the first place..." she said, handing him back the sheet of paper. "I mean, its one thing to want your space, I can understand that, but I don't take up much space, you know? In fact, I've been pretty much doing my best to stay in the living room and out of your way all this time, so what's the big deal?"

As soon as the note was handed back, he folded the paper over once and quickly wrote on it, offering it back to her. In his spidery script, it read:

It is that very thing that bothers me so much. The sooner we relocate you, the better.

He knew what was coming next....she would want to know why. And then the badgering would begin. And she wouldn't relent. And he'd have to tell her everything. And that would invite MORE fighting and...

Though Kapote had any number of questions she could have asked about this unsettlingly-cryptic note she held, she decided against asking any of them. Kryssik may have been opinionated...she would go so far as to say he could be an out-and-out b*****d when he wanted to be, but he seemed to usually have reasons for his actions.

Maybe he WASN'T just being a jerk. Maybe he truly was protecting her from something.

"All right." she said simply, handing the paper back with a small nod. "Fair enough."

Kryssik, again, seemed taken offguard at her willing acceptance. That....that was it? No explanation involved? He'd been attempting to inwardly prepare himself for when she'd demand to see his laboratory, but she was really going to leave off without getting answers?

Part of him wanted to be wary, but a bigger part of him simply wanted to collapse with relief. Good. Great....! He would get to work on her room straightaway, in that case. He scribbled a note on a clean sheet of paper.

I'll begin digging your room tomorrow. Start thinking of what you'd like to put in it.

For the first time in days, he offered her a smile. Maybe....things would work out after all.
