I am actually lighter now than I was for most of college... I had no dramatic weight gain; it was gradual in high school. I, the summer before my senior year of college, went on the South Beach Diet and started exercising almost daily. I lost about 20lbs. I went back and lost 10 more later, but have gained about 5 back I'd say from moving and being, well, lazy.

I recommend SBD because it was relatively easy and after the first two weeks it's not bad at all... I was never hungry, but I haven't looked at scrambled eggs the same way since gonk

My biggest issues was that High School I did Ballroom Dance, full 10-dance open competition. After High School, I couldn't afford it and was sick of the politics so I dropped it for only the occational class. Work load increases and those get dropped too, get married, move into apt with nowhere to practice dance or martial arts... Well one day I found out I had gained like 50lbs and all my clothes have become tiny.

The most annoying part is the fact I used to be in awesome shape, 6+ hours of aerobics a day kicks a**. I have been working about 6 mos being wishy washy and have decided to just buckle down, work out and eat better. I used to be on swim team so with summer here I am trying to go to the pol and swim laps 3 times a week and go running with my hubby the other days. I like cardio so I am hoping this works. =^_^=

((goal to lose 40lbs))

I gained about 30lbs my freshman year u_u;; BUT, I've sinced lost it, plus more! I was so stressed out about it, because being 5'3", being 165lbs isn't flattering, in any sense of the word.

After getting tired of being overweight, I started exercising and dieting, and I'm back down to 125lb x3 I haven't seen that number on the scale since middle school cool

I just hit day 31 on my raw food diet. So far I've lost close to 19 pounds! My waist size has gone down one size already, but it's about time to drop to another.

I hate to say it but I have a really fast metabolism seeing as how my mother and father both were pretty thin..So I try to make up for it by eating fatty foods and it still hasn't worked. I guess I'm just lucky, maybe some exercise would work?

I was 320 pounds in December, and I'm down to 190 now so far. There's no real trick to it actually. Just be active and don't get full. You can still eat the same amount of food, but in smaller portions more frequently throughout the day. I never changed the amount of food I ate, I just split them up into 9 meals instead of 3. And then I started walking to work instead of driving everyday.... which actually added up to 6 miles a day. People asked me if I exercised at all and I said no, lol. I just had to get to work, exercise wasn't on my mind at all. Oh... and make sure you sweat. And little modifications to the diet work as well. For example, I stopped taking so much sugar in, and drank at least the daily requirement for water. Not much else has changed, and funny thing is, I actually had a very slow metabolism. Hope this works for others!

I guess I'm not really overweight, but I would like to get a little more in shape and lose 10-20 pounds. I started gaining weight as soon as I graduated and moved down to Alabama. Being surrounded by a heavier population makes me just relax and go with the flow when it comes to food. I'm not a snacker, but I can eat a TON at lunch or dinner. Steak, mashed potatoes, mac & cheese, oh man, it's terrible.

I'm considering buying an elliptical (sp?) machine because I hate gyms, but I've been hearing that strength training and not cardio is the way to go for weight loss. I have some light freeweights just for toning, but I rarely use them. sweatdrop

I think cooking my own meals will help a lot, however, I'm on a fairly tight budget. Does anyone know tasty fresh food that is financially friendly? (That organic food crap is ridiculously expensive.)

I'd say buying wholesale produce is a good way to mind the money. There are lots of great prices at the Costco here. Unfortunately it's not all cheaper there, but you can find good prices at your local supermarket, too.

Rice and beans is a pretty cheap way to eat, too. You can stock up on some canned tuna/chicken and live on the cheap.

You guys remember that I was on that fruits/veggies diet? I went off of it for the week of my birthday (and a little longer...), but I'm going back on it. In total, I've lost 35 pounds on it! And, when I went off of it, the weight I gained didn't come on as quickly as it does with those other fad diets.

Yeah I've been heavy all my life, but sexy heavy... i've done some plus size modeling even... but my boyfriends parents aren't convinced i'm healthy so i'm trying t lose weight so i won't turn into the "fat daughter-in-law" one day.

One thing I've done is I follow a strict kosher diet and no dark soda's... naturals and organics mostly, no pork or shell fish, both of which have enough toxins to make your face break out something fierce besides being bad for you. if i really want a soda, 7-up... it's the most natural. right now i weigh about 210... my goal is 170 and see how i feel then. Ciao!

edit: wal-mart has started carying organics, kashi and amy's is awesome, though amy's is all vegetarian, and i love meat, but her enchilada's rock! Kashi pizza are good too. another wright loss help is hungrygirl.com, they have a pretty impressive mailing list of lowfat foods.

You're certainly doing some good things to lose weight. Have you ever tried seltzer with concentrated fruit juice? You can make some interesting sodas that way: blueberry, strawberry, etc.

Since I've been back on track with the raw food diet, I've lost a lot of weight! I was around 208 a week ago; now I'm about 202.

I must say that without exercise dieting does nothing for me...

I am a vegetarian and I don't drink soda or eat junk food, but after years of eating poorly (even though I haven't had meat in 10 years), losing weight has been a slow battle.

I went on South Beach about 2-3 years ago, and with moderate exercise, lost about 25lbs. Since then I've lost another 5-10, but I still need to lose a lot more.

South Beach is hard especially if you are vegetarian, but if you eat the right amount of vegetables and fruit (after the first two weeks) it works fairly well.

I think it's pretty awful for them to be so worried about you being the "fat daughter in law." That's insensitive and frankly none of their damn business. You need to lose the weight for yourself, not so they don't have a "fat daughter in law."

Just make sure your priorities are in check, because any time you do something to change yourself FOR SOMEONE ELSE, your priorities are skewed.

Organic is more expensive, but it's not really necessary. If you are worried about pesticides, just wash fruits and veggies first.

I recommend a good vegetarian cookbook because it will give you recipes that incorporate vegetables that will taste good. If you eat meat, substitute any recipe that has tofu with chicken or fish (salmon or catfish, because they're tasty.)
