Eventually, everyone starts to gain some weight (unless, of course, you're one of those fit people who keep up with exercise!). Eventually, your metabolism slows, you start to get that belly.

I know it's happened to me - I gained a bit of weight since the beginning of the year, mainly due to my eating habits from stress and depression.

So, I thought I'd start a thread where we could give each other advice and tips on how to lose weight and share stories if you have managed to put off a lot of weight. Kind of like a network of support for those of us trying to lose some. I would post this in one of the regular Gaia forums, but you can't always guarantee a good response!

I'm trying to lose about 20 to 30 pounds, personally.

So go ahead and start talkin'! 3nodding

I feel ya! I hit 23, woke up one morning and was 50 lbs heavier! It's many years and pounds later and I'm still trying to work it off. I try to eat healthy and drink plenty of water, getting ready to start an exercise routine, just need to run it by my doctor and I'm ready to go!

I want to lose 50-55 pounds...

I weigh about 245 pounds, but hopefully if this new program for criminal justice majors at my college goes into effect I'll get to exercise more often than I am now since it would be mandatory. It's weird, I'm like a mix of half muscle and half fat... husky? -Shrugs- I need to go down in between 150-180 pounds to fit in with police standards.

Good luck to the both of you.

:3

I need to start exercising more.. that's the hard part for me. I don't like going to the gym, so I have to think of ways besides that to exercise.

Instead of Freshman 15 I gained the Freshman 30. Now, several years later, I haven't been able to get rid of it AND the other weight I've always wanted to lose.

I've been dieting for about 3 months now, It's been pretty easy. The only thing that's really required is not drinking soda at all, and only drinking juices that are 100 percent juice and not sugar loaded. I've lost about 10 pounds in these 3 months. Nice. However, I have been working out a little, too so it's not just the diet, but the doctor told me that I could lose up to 40 pounds a year if I stopped drinking sodas.

I don't know if this helps, but you might want to give it a try!!!

It definitly helps. Not only do you lose weight but you also have more energy throughout the day. Also, kicking fast food also helps. Make a sandwhich at home or go to subway for lunch. All give energy instead of slowing your metabolism.

Do forget your fruits and vegetables and regular exercise. Like walking or a few push-ups a day.

I wish I was thinner than I am. But to be honest, I'm just typically curvy with a belly.
My boyfriend honestly thinks I'm sexy so I guess that's good enough for me. gonk

No need for me to exercise as I weigh oh about 120 on my good days (high metabolism anyone?) but no just running I feel helps lose weight.

I think exercise is key, as well as having a healthy diet. I practically never drink soda, or juice for that matter...just water, tea, and milk (though I'm sure real fruit juices are just fine for you) I try to do the healthy pyramid thing, with lots of whole grains and fruits and vegetables. And I'm pretty sure it works...I never gained the freshman 15, and generally weigh between 135 and 150 during the year (I gain a LOT of muscle weight during Water Polo Season) I dunno if dieting is really a good thing to do, except in the sense of changing your daily diet to something reasonably healthy...I think fad dieting and/or fasting screws up your metabolism.

As for exercise, even walking 30 minutes a day is good...I don't think it's possible for just diet to impact you THAT much (short of stapling your stomach, or other extreme cases)

What's funny is that I've gained weight because of working at Subway. gonk

But I definitely agree - I'm beginning to cut out soda from diet, and I'm pretty certain that will help a lot.

It happened to me at 22. I had always been thin (under 120, I'm 5'2") and although my diet and exercise patterns had not changed, I was suddenly gaining weight. At first, I didn't really know what was happening. I thought my clothes were shrinking in the wash. sweatdrop One day I got on the scale, and when the needle passed 170 I jumped off before it stopped. I didn't really want to know....

I lost 30 lbs on South Beach but haven't been able to keep it up. I'm at about 160 now and feel mostly good about myself but I could stand to comfortably lose 10 or 15 more. I've been making a conscious effort to stay active. Not really an exercise routine as such, but just, moving around when I'd otherwise be laying or sitting still.

It's SO true about cutting soda out of your life. What a waste of money, energy and self-esteem! Who needs it?

But it's just so good. crying The money spent on soda certainly does add up though.. I'm trying to drink mostly juice/powerade/water now though.

Hey I'm in the same boat as you. I'm getting ready to graduate and I have to lose weight in order to get a job in law enforcement. I was at 195 and now at 185, but I need to get to 145 or 155...

Dieting doesnt seem to work for me because it makes me have to eat more...however so does excercise! So I just try to do at least a 30-45 min walk each day. Awesome stress reducer and great time to test you memory on test matter, or just have fun.

I've also found by eating salad (real salad, not ice burg) with lunch AND dinner keeps me fuller and cuts down any wishes to eat candy (doesnt make them all go away!). AND MOST IMPORTANT...ITS OKAY TO HAVE A BAD DIET DAY, just try harder the next.
