Ahote did enjoy his legs, and he used them quite well. He had even outrun a few "normal"-sized Soquili. He stumpy little legs had more power than one might think.
"Yeah, Shikoba is a stallion I live with. He acts really mean sometimes, but I think its just pretend sometimes. I don't know why he does it, though. But anyway, he's got those feathery wings. They're a lot bigger than the birds' wings, though. He's a pretty good flyer."
His voice trailed off as he pictured Shikoba soaring through the air. Usually, he saw it as the stallion was flying from the cliff beside their teepee camp, trying to get away from the "pesky little pony", as Shikoba liked to call Ahote.

Harij just looked down at the pony while he seemed to be thinking over just being on four legs. Wings were overrated weren’t they?
“Why would he act mean?” The sentence came out before Harij heard the rest of what the stallion had to say to him about who Shikoba was. “How do you know he’s a good flyer? Does he just not fall all over the ground?” Well.. That seemed like something valid to know. How does one measure good flyer or bad?
The large amber eyes of the stallion widened and he gulp audibly when a stone turned and he slid slightly on their downward walk. Ack. Things like that made his heart pound too much.. Did the other ever have trouble with his footing? It didn’t seem like it.

Ahote thought about that for a moment. Well, he really didn't have anything to compare it to, did he? He was a better flyer than the pony was. Maybe that was enough?
"I don't know, really. He just always looked like he was good at it."
Ahote turned around as he heard the rocks shifting beneath Harij's feet. Once he was sure that the stallion was ok, he smiled a bit.
"Don't worry. I used to do that all the time. I guess I'm just used to it now."

Harij blinked and looked down at Ahote for a moment. Would being a flying horse be that interesting? No, Harij already got enough attention. Adding wings would probably make him feel insane.
“Oh I see.. Well perhaps we look good just being able to walk.” That made sense, right?
Bah. Stupid stumbling feet. How could he and the other feel good that they walked nicely when Harij didn’t have any better footing than some foals did. Wonderful.
“I am glad I am not the only one that stumbles on this. The change from up to down must have me off a bit.”

As they reached the foot of the mountain, the ground became less rocky and a lot smoother, becoming covered in grass.
"Maybe we do. Never thought about that before."
He smiled and pondered that thought for a moment as he took the last few steps to reach the bottom of the mountain, and came out onto fairly level ground. He turned and looked at Harij, waiting to see how he would react to being on flat ground again.
"Yeah, that's probably what happend. You should have seen me when I first came to the mountain!"
He giggled remembering how often he would stumble, and how ridiculous he must have looked.

When they reached the grass, Harij almost sighed in delight. Ah! Back onto something his hooves could really grip.
“Well.. At least it’s a new idea to ponder over, no?”
Harij blinked and stopped when they reached the bottom of the mountain. What happened now? He wasn’t overly sure as to what happened next. Blinking his mild amber eyes at Ahote, Harij figured that he’d simply thank the stallion and go along on his way.
“Did you stumble a lot on your first voyage up and down the mountains?” He had been sure-footed today.
Smiling a small genuine smile, “Thank you for taking me up the mountains.. It was.. Educational.”

"Oh, yeah! I stumbled all the time. And for longer than just my first time!"
He giggled, remembering how clumsy he had been on the mountains. He hadn't really liked them in the beginning, but now he loved them. He smiled back at Harij and bowed his head.
"You're very welcome! I'm sure you have other things to do now, though, right?"
He smiled. He wouldn't be offended if Harij left. They had spent quite some time with each other today, and Harij probably wanted some time to himself.

The image of the little pony stumbling all over the place made him smile, but just a little bit.
Harij's own footing hadn't been too bad, but they'd been going at a sedate pace and he wasn't exactly a klutz. Thank the lord. Cocking his head to the side, he began to figure out his parting words.
"Not so much other things to do, but yes.. it is time for me to wander and see what else I may find."
A simple smile spread on the stallion's face as he turned and began to walk away... Going just as quietly as he had come.

The farewell seemed somewhat distant. It was almost as if they hadn't spent the last few hours together, and he was just walking past.
But perhaps this was just the way Harij was. He still seemed somewhat awkward when he spoke, so maybe he was still getting used to it. So Ahote smiled and bowed his head at the stallion.
"Bye Harij. Maybe we'll see each other some other time. We can practice climbing the mountains some more if ya want."
He giggled as he turned in his own direction, returning to his daily wanderings, wondering what or who he might meet next.
